Eto'o wasnt even the best striker in La Liga last season

Hardly a damning indictment is it? A case could be made that last year's top 3 strikers were all in La Liga - Villa, Eto'o and Forlan.

The fact he isnt wanted should be enough for him like it is for any other player to decide that time is time.

Just as well he didn't do that last season or Barca may well have failed to win the Champions League.

It's about being the most consistent

In the past 3 years has he been the most consistent striker in europe?

I watched a shit load of barcelona last season and Eto'o was brilliant in patches but consistent? he really wasnt all that consistent. He would score 4 in a game then a hattrick then 2 then not score for a while.

He was miles ahead in the top scorers table but his form at the end of the season wasnt all that and he couldnt hang onto it. Despite demanding to play every game to ensure he would win it...

Ah. Ok. My bad. It happens. I was surprised because I'm sure you rate Eto'o' very highly and rightly so. I still marvel how he has mostly been treated like shit for most of his career in Spain except for when at Mallorca.

Same here man, same here, after everything he had helped Barcelona win he deserves more. The only reason they are getting Zlatan is more to do with politics than football and I seriously hope it bites them in the arse.

Eto'o was key to the Barcelona resurgence over the last 5 years, he has scored over 100 goals for them and he certainly deserves more respect than he is getting right now. None of what has happed to Barcelona would not have been possible without Eto'o destroying teams and deciding the big games, he truly put them back on the map.

Who told you he demanded anything? Alot of players forms dipped slightly at the end of the season including Messi's somewhat. You can not score 38 goals and be brilliant in patches. He was brilliant for the majority of the season.

Seriously who cares if he doesn't in every single matches ? It's a matter of goalscoring in general and throughout a period of time which is the most important thing to focus on, no matter where he plays (Mallorca, Cameroun and Barcelona).
His goalscoring record/matches in a every single season tells everyone he's one of the most if not the consistent goalscorer currently playing football.
If you don't believe it then I challenge you to give a more consistent striker in the last 3 years then

Hehehe, Barcelona clearing out one trouble maker for another. I hope it all goes tits up in Spain and Villareal win La Liga next season. As for Eto'o's impending move to Italy, at least he will get a chance to pop round Dinho's place for a bevy or two.

Only when he joined Barcelona did he really become the player you know now. Due to the brilliance of Barcelona he got the service he needs to bang in goals.

In the last 3 years? fine

Eto'o made 107 appearances in the last 3 seasons scoring 67 goals.

Forlan made 138 appearances scoring 79 goals.

Ibrahimovic has made 116 appearances and managed 66 goals.

Torres made 124 appearances and managed 65 goals.

RVN made 93 appearances scoring 63.

Nobody is disputing that Eto'o is a top center forward, i'm merely disputing that he should be the highest paid player in the world. Because never at any point has he been the best player in the world.

You're the one who reduced it to the last 3 years, I originally said that he was one of the most profilic striker since he signed for Barca and not only the last 3 years.
Considering all the trophies he's won at Barca, if he asks to be to be paid considerably then it makes sense.
At least it would make more sense that he should earn more than Zlatan or any other striker right now

Since he signed for Barca he has been but he has never been the best player in the team. That was basically Ronaldinho then Messi.

that is why i struggle to understand why he thinks he deserves to be the worlds highest paid player and the conclusion i have come to is he is either greedy or spiteful towards barcelona. With reason mind but surely as a professional footballer he would leave in order to get first team football or in order to go to a club that will treat him with respect. Inter would do that and probably give him the money they were going to give ZLatan who last season was the highest paid player in the world.

Truth is Koroux, is he doesn't deserve to earn more than Messi. I believe it was his way of getting back at Barca for refusing to give him a contract back in January when he had well and truly returned to form with an improved attitude. Alas, it has back fired on him.

I didn't say he does but more like it wouldn't be a surprise if it was to happen considering what he's done for Barca since he arrived (more than Messi so far who will surely clip him in the near future)

They wanted talks in Jan but he wouldnt talk about it till the end of the season. Thats why Barcelona started going after Villa back then

It would be a massive surprise. He was outstanding in his first 2 seasons, the best center forward in the world, he was 23/24/25 and playing brilliantly with the assists of Ronaldinho, Guily, Xavi and co. Then he had a couple of injury plagued seasons, his form dipped as a result, Ronaldinho became a party boy and Barca won nothing.

Messi is 21 and in one season fully fit has fully surpassed anything Eto'o had done for the club in one year. At 21 he can only get better and warrants a long contract as the clubs top earner. At 28 and after injury and form loss is it any wonder he isnt the top earner?

On the one hand you have the best player in the world who can only get better with at least another 10 years at the top level.

On the other hand you have Eto'o who wont get better and is only going to decline with another 3/4 years at the top level.

I would find it exceptionally surprising for Eto'o to even be given equal pay with Messi never mind more.

That's what's wrong in football.Just because Henry used to be better once his wage hit a level, even if he isn't the same player as before he still earns the same.If only wages were directly related to performances then it'd be interesting

Eto'o wants last big pay day.

The thing is, Eto'o doesnt have to move. And he's even more likely to get his payday if he makes sure he stays at Barcelona to the end of his contract.

Can you imagine how much a club like City will offer him if he goes there on a free? Chelsea too, I'm sure they'd be a lot more willing to meet his demands than now. Thats exactly what Barcelona have been worried about since last christmas.

Eto'o wants last big pay day.

Clearly a myth given he refused moves to City and Uzbekistan where he'd have got more money than what he's on now. He wants to stay at Barcelona because they're the best team in the world.

Obviously money isn't his sole motivation, but it would appear it's a bloody important factor in his decision making.

More than he's on now yes. As much as he's asking for? No. more than he will get in a year's time when he can move on a free? No.

Obviously not. If he wants a huge pay deal he's best served playing one more year at Barcelona. And the beauty of it is that seemingly Barcelona cant get Ibrahimovic or David Villa without getting rid of Eto'o first or as part of a trade. So effectively if Eto'o digs his heels in he may be able to ensure that he's still first choice at Barcelona next season.

If he wants to stay at Barcelona just because they are the best team, he'd sign the contract they have offered.

I don't get the Zlatan lovefest - he's massivley overrated.

Think it stems from Italian football where he stood out, because the league hasnt been particularly impressive in recent years. That and he's the archetypical "Italian" style player. Great technique, can looks after himself and lots of drama, so they love him over there.

I'm not sure he'd get more adulation than someone like Bergkamp over here. But over there, he's the best player in the world!

He is Bergkamp, but big strong and fast. Sorry lads but Zlatan is the real deal, i know you havent watched any italian football since the glorious 80/90s if ever but the standard is still high, the football is still tactical although far more attacking than anyone would care to admit and there is still an abundance of talent in that league.

I guess it will take him going to spain for the casual observer to finally take any notice. Although England would have been better since quite alot of posters only watch United, or at a push some other EPL matches.

i think zlatan is insanely gifted and it is a testament to his ability that he has won 6 leagues in a row (including the ones he won at juve that were later stripped). however i think bergkamp is a better player but zlatan is much more versatile up top. bergkamp had the best touch i have ever seen on a player. even better than zidane IMO.

How strongly do you feel about that? Zidane's touch was otherworldly.
