Zlatan Ibrahimovic

How would you rate him.

He's a very good player, but the whole carry on with him is just ridiculous. He's far too good for the French League, and we all know it but it literally seems like its only since he's started regularly demolishing defences that he shouldn't really be playing against (and that hat-trick against England) that people have actually started rating him, and even then they've gone so far the other way.

If he drags PSG to a Champions League win I might change my opinion on him though.

The guy has the greatest scrapbook of goals scored in the history of the game. Nobody has ever scored the type of goals he is capable of.

He's come a long way since then too, been at his peak since turning 30, just a shame he can't show it in a bigger league.

The biggest shame for me as a Swede is the fact that the rest of our NT is about half as talented combined.

Zlatan was great during Inter's multiple title wins. He was largely dismissed because of Inter's dismal CL performances during that time. He always had three or so goal of the season contenders

So did you not rate him when he was the main player at inter or Milan during their title wins? Or how at Juve he was a class player right away, been though he was still young and moving to a new league? He's scored loads of goals wherever he has gone, even at Barca, he just isn't as good as messi so he didn't fit in.
He's easily a world class player and is the best, most complete and most talented striker in world football, been so for the past 3-4 years probably.

He's done it in Italy, Spain and France. It's only the English who don't rate him.

We previously had Ljungberg and Henrik Larsson that could challenge him a bit in the star player criteria but now the closest one is...Källström? or Johan fecking Elmander.

Nothing. A lot of decentish, younger players like Kacaniklic and Ekdal. Hopefully they can step up a little bit into a a new Svensson and Wilhelmsson (when he actually was a bit good).

Or the entire Lebanese team put together:lol:

 Yeah the Lebanese NT aren't great.

I miss those days, that Linderoth-Wilhelmson-Ljunberg-Svensson diamond with Henke and Zlatan up-front  I am still slightly annoyed about how we lost to Holland on ppens, should have won that match.

Nothing will hapen unless we revamp our whole system. we need to move forward and modernize the way we play football.

1 of my favourite players. Does everything with style an arrogance, but back's it up with pure power and composure.

It's a shame for him he has reached this level so late in his career, but he certainly has a few more years in him to go yet!.

If Rooney did ever leave he would be my choice of replacement IMO.

Well, he hasn't won a Champions League. I'm not doubting his talent but I feel like those teams would have won what they did with any other top striker too.

I wonder if Suarez will end up with a similar reputation of destroying the shit teams but perhaps not doing it in the biggest of games. He plays well against the big clubs (Suarez) but struggles to score.

I definitely think that he could have gone down in history as being better than he will though.

That's a bit unfair to Ibrahimovic. He's scored regularly in pretty much all big games in all countries he's played in. He hasn't been exceptional in most games vs English sides in the CL, with a few exceptions, but he's scored/assisted against loads of top sides in the CL. Not to mention how decisive he's been for Sweden in big games against Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal etc.

It's unbelievable how easy he makes it look. Our coaching staff should be showing compilations of him shooting outside of the box because we hardly ever do it.

i used to always say he was over rated. over the past few years he has proved me wrong. one of the greatest

I admire your honesty. Most ABZs (Anything But Zlatan) will insist on hating him even though they are convinced he is class.

i was very much a doubter in his early years at ajax and juve but i'm a full blown convert now the guy is amazing. It just saddens me to see him in France. he's so far ahead of everyone else there that it's difficult to put his performances into perspective against other top players in europe. would love to see him over here, especially at utd, he's got the character to become a real cult hero at OT though from reading his book he seems to have practically no interest in english football and the pay day he is on at PSG is restrictive to say the least!

I too wasn't overly impressed with him until the past couple of seasons. One of my favourite players now.

People still don't rate him? He has been world class since he played for Inter and he reached his peak there in 08/09 he was then amazing at Milan after his spell at Barca. Amazing player

I've always wondered style wise and technique wise how he and Van Basten compare.

He hasn't proved your wrong, he's stepped up a level. It's the same thing with Messi being poor at international level. Just because he's incredible now doesn't mean one was wrong to criticise him previously.

I can understand why he split opinions. He tended to underwhelm every time he came up against English opposition (was pants whenever he played United) and his apparent inability to fit into the well-oiled machine at Barca goes down as probably the highest profile "flop" on the cv of any of the best strikers currently playing the game (whether or not there were mitigating factors).

Not everyone has the time to watch entire games in other leagues and when someone underperforms whenever you do get to see him for 90 minutes then it's natural to think he might be getting over-hyped.

In the last couple of years, for some reason, I seem to have seen a lot more of him (probably helped by Sweden being drawn in Ireland's group in the qualfiers) and I am now convinced of his brilliance. Plus the stats speak for themselves. He's right up there with Messi and Ronaldo.

I agree, he's always been a great player but he's also improved a lot since he joined AC Milan, specially in terms of playmaking. He's been more than a goalscorer for Milan, Sweden and now PSG, he's a weird mixture of a number 10 and 9. He's ideally what we would have all wanted Rooney to become.
