I only just found out he was sent off at the weekend, yet again for utter stupidity

What a prat

A very good striker with a propensity to do something dazzling every now and then, but the myth of him being anything close to the best striker in the world was expunged long ago

Under Mourinho he had a brilliant season domestically, at that point it wouldn't be silly to say he was one of the best strikers around at the time.

Right now? No he's not close to being the best striker around, even though he has scored/created a lot of goals this season. But then again a lot of top strikers haven't been the best this season. Look at someone like Torres, had one great season in 2008, people label him the best striker in the world and he's been fairly crap for a while now. It doesn't change that he was one of the best a few years ago.

Yeah but Torres did it in a top league when said league was at its strongest. Even so he was never the best in my opinion. Villa has always been better, same with Eto'o.

Zlatan has only done it in Serie A and at a time when its clearly weaker than multiple other leagues. I do think its on the way up again but no longer is Zlatan the best striker in Serie A.

He's kicked another teammate. Cassano in the head this time. Whilst they were celebrating the title

Cut him some slack. He's like a moose who just want to play and cuddle with you but instead, he "accidentally" impales you and licks your brain dry.

Yeah, erh, enigma...

2011 Milan
2010 Barca
2009 Inter
2008 Inter
2007 Inter
2006 Juve
2005 Juve
2004 Ajax

What an exceptional record. Zlatan won every League title from 2004 to 2011 with 4 different teams. If he so special he virtually guarantees his team league title. I wonder why City dont try to pay whatever it takes to get him and win EPL next year.

Heh.

2002 he won with Ajax too. 2003 lost by 1 point to Hiddink. the man is magical.

What Zlatan could possible done differently, so Juventus wouldn't get stripped of titles? I bet Zlatan knew nothing about corruption.

He played for a club that cheated. He was stripped, as were the rest of the players. Sorry, you can't rewrite history.

They don't count.

I believe its unfair to punish superb Zlatan personal record for fault of Juventus. Juventus may have cheated, but Zlatan would have won them those titles anyway,

Except that you are making that up. You have no idea to what extent Juve's cheating benefited the team.

All we do know is, that they cheated, were stripped, and those two "title wins" don't count.

AC Milan was also punished. so not like if their rivals played fair.

how doesnt it count? he was in the team , it won a title. it aint his fault juve were corrupt.

He's not being punished, he's just not being credited with winning titles that were "won" via bribed match officials. Juventus did not win those titles, so neither did he.

Last five years still isn't bad.

On his move on Stephane Henchoz of Liverpool (there has been some doubts whether his move was on Henchoz or Hyypiä):

"First I went left, he did too. Then I went right, and he did too. Then I went left again, and he went to buy a hot dog."

On the question what his girlfriend got when they got engaged:

"What she got? She got Zlatan."

Is it not possible that he would not of won the title had Juventus not cheated? History says Juventus was not champions them seasons so how could a juventus player be a champion?

as Milan also cheated, the closest cleared of cheating rival was inter milan 15 points behind. and yeah i think it is extremely unlikely that juventus cheating was so great it gave them more than 15 points advantage vs honest team. If Milan played fair i wouldnt argue, but they didnt.

But you know what. i Dont care. You can take away 2 of Zlatans titles. You can take away all of them if you want....

Saw that game against Finland. Came on and was magnificent. Great assist as well for another goal.

La Liga - Ibrahimovic: 'Guardiola bullied me' - Yahoo! Eurosport

"It was a childhood dream and I was walking on air," Ibrahimovic was quoted as writing in his book by several Swedish newspapers. "It started well but then Messi started to talk.
"He wanted to play in the middle, not on the wing, so the system changed from 4-3-3 to 4-5-1"

Found this bit interesting. make of it what you will.

Also, The part about not driving your sports car to training is weird if true. :wenger:

As humble as he comes across it seems very much acknowledged by the Barca fans that it's Messi's team and he has a huge amount of influence. As good as he is I wouldn't have expected that.

Yep. Its insane that they'd buy a 60mil striker but then bench him because Messi suddenly decides that he wants to play through the middle and not out wide.

He's a great player and all but it isnt really correct when one player has the authority to decide how and where he wants to play.

It is not insane at all. Messi is that good. Basing your team to get the best out of him is a no brainer, even if it means wasting a 60m striker. Look what Fergie did with Rooney when Ronaldo was with us and hitting the peak. The focus was on Ron and Rooney was fitted in else where instead of giving Rooney his best position first.

Also expect Messi to be all humble and ready to sacrifice etc is naive. It is pretty obvious he has become ridiculously selfish in last 2 seasons. Nothing what so ever wrong with that. Part of the reason he has become so goal hungry is due to Ronaldo landing up in La Liga, it is natural for him to try to out score his closes challenger.

Something similar happened when Veron arrived at Utd as well. No one from our fab midfield four was too happy to have him. Veron mentioned in some interview that Keane never made him feel welcomed and made it clear that he was still supreme MF boss. While someone like Scholes too threw a hissy fit once when he lost place to Veron for a while. Expecting players to be like school children and follow every word of manager is again very naive.

There's a difference between Guardiola deciding that messi is better utilised through the middle and playing him there and messi asking to be played there because he wants to. thats what am getting at. Barca are a much better unit now with him as the false 9 than they were before. but that isnt my point. My point is that a player thinking he can decide where he wants to play and his team having to adjust accordingly is something i find wrong. Do you think ronaldo would have walked up to Sir Alex and said i wanna play through the middle so you better put rooney on the left? Am guessing not.

No matter how good a player, the manager should be the one picking the team and where the players play. Not a player, be it messi , ronaldo or maradona.

Messi had plenty of success in the tail-end of 2008/09 playing as a false-nine, a role that was initially given to Messi by Pep. (The Clasico at the Bernabau and the CL final come to mind) I find it hard to believe Pep decided to move Messi into the centre permanently just because Messi wanted to.

It's not just because Messi wanted to - it's because a contented Messi delivers results and delivers them consistently enough that the team (and its personnel) was adapted to let him thrive, and yes, to keep him happy.
