As much as that has been true of Evans at left back in the past, last season he came on leaps and bounds with the ball. So in a way it'd be interesting to see what he can do at left back now that he can dribble and is more confident in his passing. I dont expect he'll be brilliant but certainly a lot better than when he was used there in the past

Not sure he came on leap on bounds in that respect. He's always had that.

I think mentally is where we saw a marked improvement in him.

Evans surely? he played there at international level as well as for us...

I remember Evans plays 3 or 4 games there for us, was it much more than that? Did he play there many times for N. Ireland?

It's been a while since Cleverley played LB, to be fair, but at least he had a season there...at youth level anyway.

What's going on with those young players ?

Its very disturbing!

We seem to have had a baron period with little talent coming through, then when it looks like we have turned that corner, they're 'all' buggering off. Its not right!

I had a theory that when the City money arrived, coupled with the Glazers shackles on our own spending, Fergie realised he had to bring through a top draw set of youth, hopefully to rival the Scholes, Neville, Beckham era. Sadly this effort appears to under threat at the moment. Its a worry alright :(

I don't know about players in the past, but one of the remarkable things about Scholes and Giggs is that they don't have agents. They've never tried to get maximum dollars out of United.

It seems to me that the experience of playing for United was seen by some as being worth taking less money. I think this may have created an expectation at United that players wouldn't try to get maximum value.

Remember how upset SAF was when Wes Brown held out for more money for I believe his last contract with us, even though SAF was ultimately willing to pay it. It seems SAF agreed ultimately he was worth it, he just thought he should accept less.

I think there was serious pressure against Rooney asking for more money, thus the public statement to force their hand. Of course Rooney deserves some credit for taking our improved offer, to go with the criticism, because City would have beaten our offer handily. Other players have prefered move on.

Tradition certainly means less in the States these days, I'd be surprised if the money over tradition mentality wasn't almost as rampant in Britain.

On that basis, wouldnt you have thought a couple of the more savy kids would have made a clear stance against having an agent. Put faith in the faith, work hard, and loyalty will be rewarded

I think I'm dreaming tho. Too much greed today. If its not the kids themselves pushing for the big dollars, its their parents :( Jaysus, I'd have played for free when I was a kid, just for the honour of wearing the badge! ...Hang on, I did play for free - but sadly not for Man United :p

Ask Fergie about what? Take each case on its merit.
Players leave all the time. Twitter and 24x7 coverage now means reserve teamers get much more attention than they have in the past.

Pogba was the only top talent to leave. And I doubt thats just about the wages on offer.

Fair point too. We've made a point of collecting the best young talent from around the world, I can see those sort of players having higher expectations and less interest in sacrifice, with dreams of millions in their heads.

A tad hysterical.Pogba apart who is buggering off?

Morrison as well, but I think most people saw that coming and hope was lost a while ago. But your point remains, those two are the only real disappointments, Fryers seems to be being made into a far bigger deal than it is. The vast majority of our promising youngsters aren't going anywhere. If the likes of Cole, Lingard and Keane were stalling, I'd be a tad more worried.

Agreed a deal to join Spurs.

He won't make it there either.

Who's there 2nd choice LB after Ekotto? Cant see fryers getting ahead of him but could get games if they dont have a decent 2nd choice.

Makes some sense then. He'l surely get some gametime in that case.

You didn't make it easier by posting in this one 80 minutes after the last post.
