Zeki Fryers

They're both very athletic. Blackett's more skillful but Fryers seems like the more natural defender.

And no, westlife, Blackett's not ready for a first team spot. Not even close.

Last couple of games of the Reserves, after they have won the title Blackett was tested against reserve sides and it was pretty evident that he has a lot more to learn and this level is still a challenge for him.

He was constantly straying out of position and Joyce was yelling directions at him all the time, ALL the time. He will come good, I don't have many doubts, but it will take time.

It's gonna be interesting to see him after a full season in the reserves.

Dont know who you're thinking of but Blackett wasnt even in the reserves squads at the end of the season the last game he played for the reserves was in April where he came on near the end of the game and played as a right winger

Blackett certainly has much to learn - as with any prospect...he is just that!

trying to dig up that Rio quote about Zeki from a while ago, can't seem to find it.

He was less impressive this term than last? This is my view from admittedly the limited amount of times I saw him this year

Manchester United and England centre-back Rio Ferdinand has picked out four youngsters to star for the Three Lions at World Cup 2018, which he hopes will be in England.

"It would be extra special to have a World Cup here and I believe it would have a huge impact on England players," said Ferdinand 50 days before FIFA votes on the tournament hosts.

"I'm thinking about both the youngsters who could play in the tournament in eight years, and the kids that will watch it and be inspired to play the game.

"We've got some talented youngsters, the likes of Chelsea's Joshua McEachran , Ross Barkley at Everton, Ezekial Fryers in our youth ranks at United and John Bostock with Spurs.

"What a motivation it could be for every young player to have the chance to represent your country at a World Cup on home soil.

"The impact would reach far deeper in our game, inspiring people at all levels to get more involved in football, whether that be playing, coaching or watching."

there you go :)

funny how football pans out...Bostock likely to go back on loan to Swindon, McEachran didn't get a sniff at Swansea (and back of the queue now at Chelsea). Fryers to be sold. only Barkley is the one to persist out of those named.

How do you compare and rate Fryers and Blackett PS18?

Zeki's got the higher floor, Tyler the higher ceiling, if that makes any sense. Tyler's the more naturally talented but he's got some rough edges that need working on.

Blackett looks special - but a bit Ferdinand-eque (lack of concentration) - Fryers never looked special at that age.

What makes Blackett special is that he has pace, strength, height and a thunderous shot with his left foot.

In fairness to Zeki, he was basically injured for most of his second year (the year Tyler's just finished). And Zeki was getting raved about as a schoolboy (not just by Rio) and was recognised internationally much earlier and more often than TB.

Amazed. Surely he's done nothing to warrant such a wage if the report is accurate. We might need to check on the mentality of our youths more regularly.

I don't think Fryers deserves a wage like that, has done nothing to warrant it. I'd be amazed if we offered a quater of that at his age.

I do however wonder what the younger lads think when someone like Jones comes in, albeit tried in the Premier League and chased by most the clubs in the league. On a much bigger wage ( I assume) and a year or so older.

I also wonder what sort of a contract young Powell is now on etc.

Thats the thing though, Jones was a proven Premier League player. Fryers played a couple of games for us during our injury crisis and suddenly he wants a better wage. United historically reward our own young players with contracts once they have proven themselves, some just cannot wait to hit the big money rather than earn it.

The thing is, even if we dont really want a player to stay and he is wanted by another club, we will offer him a contract which enables us to get a small fee.

If we dont and release the player, we get nothing. We did it with Ecks when he was signing for Burnley too.

Might not be the case here, but its a possibility.

What's going on with those young players ?

United are doing an Arsenal. Trying to save money by keeping players hanging on until they reach final year of their contracts. It often gets too late. Two high profile reserve players have been lost due to this policy. Morrison was transferred for other reasons.

It's a blow in the fact he turned down a contract. We wanted to keep him. Like we wanted to keep Pogba.

We have no idea how he will turn out. But the fact we offered him a deal and if the wages Spurs are offering are correct, people feel he has a lot of potential.

BAE is a good fullback, so it will be interesting to see if he gets many games.

Until now the wages for junior players have been pretty standard across the piece. Now some players want to get rich quick.

No way! Spurs are generally pretty astute. I'd be surprised and shocked if they offered 10k a week. Modric is on 40k.

I'd be shocked and surprised if we are not willing him to pay 10k.

Some fella on Twitter yesterday, claiming to work with Zeki's dad, said that he has all but signed for Burnley.

Unlike Pogba, Zeki was unlikely to ever be a regular here and with Blackett now emerging it is possible that he would have been overtaken in the pecking order this year anyway.

I can see where Zeki is coming from in some respects. He probably knows he will never be good enough to nail down a regular first team spot here and feels that we would look to tie him to a contract, send him on loan next year and sell him for a fee next summer. He's now been offered a lucrative deal where he can settle down and try and build on that stability. Best of luck to him anyway.

Zeki was still a good bit off being a regular for us to be fair. He might have gotten a few chances with fabio out on loan now, but still not alot. He will be in a similar position at Spurs though if he does go there. Strange move, but no surprise if he went for the money.

The only thing that irritates me is the way that he and his agent seemed to leave Fergie out of the loop on the whole thing. I'm sure had he just gone to the gaffer and said I want to leave then it would have been a lot smoother, and Fergie would have steered him on the right path.

Yep and this is what leaves a sour taste. Compare this to how Norwood left the club.

Some money that was mentioned in the article....

We want £6mill - they offer £2 mill...???

Anything above £2 mill is good money for Fryers

He hasn't impressed me too much in those games he played. He got a chance to play only during our injury crisis, in the second half of last season he didn't even sit on the bench. Local lad who made a United debut - it's always nice so we liked it, but let's be honest, he only did a decent job against weak opponents in League Cup.

I understand he wants to leave United, but I would rather want him to fight for his place here, especially that we might have some serious problems with left-backs...

£20,000 a week for Fryers is ridiculous.
