Yves Bissouma / Signs for Spurs

He’s a quality player - just that don’t think commercially for us it would send the right message with him still with a sex assault case hanging over him and us with Mason……shame as would have been perfect at that price.

That price is ridiculously cheap. I know there's the off field stuff, but I didn't think if he was to move it would be for that low a price. Brilliant business from a footballing perspective in a position we're desperate.

About £30m is what has been reported for a while now. I think clubs were staying away because of the pending court case. But if that gets resolved with a no guilty outcome, he'd be be in high demand. Surprised Spurs have gone there to be honest.

Whats this about?

Bissouma and another man were arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman. I believe the last update was that he had been released under investigation while police inquiries continue.

This club is ridiculous, just wonder what they'll come up with. Chasing Nunez but letting players like this go. No transfer fee targets. So inefficient.

To be fair this deal has annoyed me, not that I blame the club in its current situation from staying clear. But if all goes for him with his legal stuff Spurs have got a ridiculous deal and look berry berry shrewd.

No way United are going after him with Greenwood’s situation. We’ll be the last club signing him

Unless he ends up getting charged I guess, although you'd figure they would be on top of that before agreeing £25m

Tbh I can't see why people are frothing about this, lets see who we actually end up with first but also ETH apparently wanted proper checks on character etc, we do not need more issues with players, we want good boys who sit at home with a cup of tea breathing football

Absolutely criminal we weren’t in for him, especially at that price. Would have been a fantastic signing.

Right hadn't heard about that cheers. If that's true then we're right to steer clear.

Spurs are building a proper squad right now. Their attack and midfield is reaching top tier levels. Defence/GK is a big drop off though.

Their defence is fine. Romero is top quality and they’re targeting another centre half. They will be a problem next season.

Spurs are well and truly going to leave us in their wake this season. Perisic, Bissouma and likely Torres as unlike us their interest seems genuine.

It will only hurt if he gets cleared and I am guessing Spurs would not do the deal if they are not sure about it.

His situation is nothing like Greenwood's. He was apparently only a witness to an alleged assault by one of his entourage at a club.

And Liverpool getting Diaz and Nunez in early and that fullback as well... city with Haaland...all teams that were going in the right direction anyway...while we were more desperate than any of them and knew a long time ago what was needed. Still fuking sitting on our hands. This club upsets me on a daily basis.

Remains to be seen how good he is for them. Nevertheless, Spurs are trying to build a serious team. And with Conte to lead them I think they will give us, Chelsea and Arsenal a run for our money next season. I think they will finish 3rd and might even nab a cup.

We have never really been linked with him.
We cannot sign every player and you just have to trust the recruitment team and coach.

Spurs business in the last 2 years has been very impressive. I'm somewhat conflicted whether to be annoyed by this as from a footballing perspective we've missed out but commercial wise not sure we could take the risk.

Spurs under Levy seem like the the type of club to not care either way. They embrace being the genuinely bad guys.

Exactly, his situation is even far less dubious than Ronaldo's.

I'm absolutely fine with us not being in for him.

We still have the Greenwood situation hanging over our heads and Ronaldo has only just had a rape case against him dismissed in the US on the basis of how evidence against him was obtained. And then you have the criticism we recieved last season for inviting Giggs into the Old Trafford director's box at a point where he had already been charged with ABH and coercive & controlling behaviour againt women.

In that context I would avoid signing any player who comes with those sort of associated issues, as we will receive a degree of criticism and scrutiny for it that other clubs won't to the same extent. There are plenty of other players out there without that baggage. We in particular don't need any more of it.

I don't feel like Bissouma is too conservative from what I've seen, unless you've got some sort of stats that say otherwise? He always seems solid defensively, covers ground quickly, but can contribute in advanced areas when Brighton push up the pitch to squeeze the opposition.
He’s in the bottom 7th percentile for progressive passing. Hojberg is in the top 88th. Obviously systems do play a part in that but I’ve never once watched bissouma and thought he’s anything more than a good player - the Caicedo kid was better than him against us and he’s 20. The fact Liverpool, Chelsea, City and United are all on the lookout for a CM and haven’t gone for him at that price only vindicates it for me - he’s never been linked with top sides and only Villa wanted him last year when he was available for 40-50m before his issues so I don’t believe any of them would have gone for him regardless. Good player, great fee, will do well for Conte in his system but not worth the meltdown on here as usual. People need to accept the fact we can’t sign everyone and other clubs are going to buy good players too. I would like us to sign someone soon though

What annoys me more is we didn't really go for Caceido, but did for Pellistri and Amad.

Fair enough. As a pair they (Bissouma and Caceido) worked really well against us. So it just depends what you want. We need a Bissouma type if we are to sign FdJ. But I'm not getting worked up about this one for the simple fact that he's got these allegations over him and it wouldn't be a good look for us with the MG situation. There's plenty of players about that do the same job.

Caceido hasn't really got going yet though to be fair, he's not exactly been a revelation. He might become one, but a player like him doesn't get the time to bed in at a team with the expectations of Man Utd.

But true, those two are of a similar level and we went for them.

He got going in the final third of the season, he'll be very good for them. I don't want Bissouma while this allegation is hanging over his head anyway.

This is getting very annoying now.

Yes the transfer window only just literally opened, but one of main rivals for 4th next season is steaming ahead of us, with great signings, whilst we brief about walking away from our supposed top transfer target.

Yes it’s a reactionary post, but it’s hard not to be downcast, when you see other clubs doing the business.

Do we really need him for progressive passing though shouldn't that be for his more attacking partner who hopefully would be De Jong. His best attributes are things we lack in abundance in midfield, ball carrying, positioning, interceptions, defensive contribution and to me the more important one press resistant. We need to add more and more of those kind of players to our team as we are severely lacking in them and it directly affects our ability to keep the ball.

For the other clubs, I don't see a need for him at Chelsea unless one of Kante/Jorginho/Kovacic is leaving, Man City need a different profile and it's why they are looking at someone like Philips and I don't see how Liverpool need a midfielder as they are well stocked in that area.

I'd be surprised if we have let him go for 25, as others have said he is in the last year of his contract but 30-40 was always the amount put out by the club. I'll believe this when it is reported by Andy Naylor.

Whats this about?
He was arrested last October in a nightclub for sexual assault and was released on police bail. In January that was reduced to released under investigation, so while there is no court case pending as some have said here, it is not just that he was a witness either as stated below, to be fair it might end up at that but it's not at the moment.

His situation is nothing like Greenwood's. He was apparently only a witness to an alleged assault by one of his entourage at a club.

If it wasn’t for the accusations against him I think we’d have been in for him.

Who am I kidding we probably don’t even know he exists..

Caideco really got going as soon as we started giving him first team starts at the end of last season, he will be better than Bissouma. Also watch out for Sarmiento our other Ecuadorian, I think he'll be a premier league break out star next season.

Chances we buy DeJong he flops hard and Bissouma and Palhinha tear it up for less than half the price..
