Youri Tielemans

This is another one I think the club might do in January.
Some papers this morning said the club is pessimistic about its chances of signing established players this January, especially from PL sides. So the club is looking at young talented players. Expect more Martial type signings.

Oh my god it's a football manager fantasy, please be true

Just saw his assist. Sorry boys, his passing is too adventurous, doesn't fit the philosophy.

I'm all for us stockpiling young talent, personally I think Neves would be a better choice for us though.

Either that or just scouting potential EL opponents.

He's a fantastic talent but I do think we have too many players of the similar age profile already. Our new signings should be players around their peak.

There is no reason why we should stop buying young talent alongside more established players. We've realised that it is much harder to buy those top class established players and they are much riskier than you'd expect.

Ideally they should just be adding to a good team of players that we have built up from a young-ish age.

The problem is the expectation at this club. For these kind of talents to reach their potential you have to give them enough game times, but fielding too many players 22 years old or under on the pitch together will affect the results because they're nowhere near their peaks and usually have their ups and downs as we have seen with Januzaj,Memphis,Martial,etc,... and even Shaw last season.I'm personally fine with not getting ideal results short-term to develop these talents but many fans won't.To get both results and young player development you should have a good mix of age profiles in the line-up.We have too many players either too young or is getting over the hill of their career,or still take times to adapt,or just not good enough.

I would like us to give current young players at the club more opportunities before we look to try new shiny toys from elsewhere.

They probably will be but just like Martial's deal Tielemans may be a long term plan of building new spine for upcoming manager that is undoubtedly coming here in one or two years.

In central midfield we have plenty of experience and need younger legs.

German paper Rheinische Post is reporting that Gladbach have started negotiations for Tielemans and see him as a replacement for Xhaka. They say he'll probably cost between 15 and 20 million euros.

Well he is gone then, good step for him

Iam belgian and watch him regulary, he is really not ready for a top club. He is inconsistant as feck, easily caves under pressure and when he plays bad he really plays bad and when he plays good he gets seriously overhyped.

Imo he is not worth 15 million euro as he isnt even amongst the best midfielders in the belgium league and you would just be paying for hype and potential. But there is a massive amount of work to be done before he starts realising that potential.

Glasbach is a good move for him, will be playing under a much better coach then now at anderlecht and not have the pressure too much on him like at a top club. But iam still very skeptical about his chances to make it as a top midfielder. Skills on the ball only get you so far if you dont have a good football brain or mentality to go with it.

How is this guy getting along then? It has gone a bit quiet.

I remember him and Bazoer being touted as two future WC midfielders just a year or so ago.

I don't watch the Belgian League but according to the stats he started in 29 of the 54 games Anderlecht played last season. I remember reading somewhere that he was pretty hit and miss last season and especially towards the end of the season he was spending a lot of time on the bench.
He is probably still a very good talent but I think he has been massively overrated due to certain computer games.

Probably still one to keep an eye on. I hope we are following these players:

- Tielemans
- Bazoer
- Dahoud
- Goretzka
- Neves

Outside of Weigl and Niguez which will be hard to get these seems to be the hottest CM talents around. We need one next year when Carrick is decomissioned.

We need a midfielder when Carrick goes, not nesc a young talent and not nesc from that list.

Tielemans, I watch him regulary as I'am from Belgium, he is totally not ready for this level, totally not.

Anderlecht struggled a fair bit last season, with manager Besnik Hasi getting sacked. As for Youri being overrated, I don't know. When he first broke out he looked genuinely incredible. I'd give him another season to truly impose himself on, and impress under the new manager.

Just the other day in their CL qualifying match he scored this, which wasn't bad at all.

He had a rough season. Perhaps he let all the hype get to his head. On the other hand, I felt they sometimes expected him to carry the midfield and rather predictably for a then 18 year old, he didn't manage that and received some criticism. I don't think that's a healthy situation for such a young player. He looks sharper at the start of this season but again, people are expecting a lot from him. Still only 19 so he's bound to be inconsistent. Nevertheless I think he'll do significantly better this season.

I think his situation is quite comparable to Ruben Neves at FC Porto. Both are excellent talents, but you can't really expect such young central midfielders to run such big sides on their own.

Becomes world-beater on FM16, we need him and with Pog we'll conquer the world.

Still unsure about this kid. Super young, but I think video games have made people think he's a lot better than he is.

He's been linked with Spurs a few times and I'm not entirely sure I buy the hype enough to want him. I'd much sooner have Bazoer, Dahoud, Geis, or Tolisso over him. Especially Tolisso, that kid is going to be an absolute world beater, I love him already.

I think his hype is fairly justified given his talent and his age. I don't know many 16 year old that broke into a first team and remained there like he has done. I think his biggest problem was not moving to a more competitive league which works well for some and not well for others. The advise from his family and coaches now in hindsight seems a bad call as he needed the step up earlier than most thought. He still is a great talent imo but needs to test himself now!

There have been lots of players who start out early and never really develop past that. My main concern about him has been the fact he hasn't really developed a whole lot in the last couple of years it seems.

Yeah, which is why he should taken that offer from Atletico Madrid.

Don't think Weigl will be as difficult to get as Saul. Weigl is the one player out of that list that we should really be trying our hardest for. After Carrick we need a holding midfielder and he fits the bill perfectly. Some of the other names you mentioned are very talented however if we're looking for a Carrick replacement, Weigl stands out.
As for Tielemans, he has shown more than enough earlier in his career to be given the benefit of the doubt. In fact, for a young midfielder like him I would have been borderline shocked if he didn't have somewhat of a mixed year performance-wise. Now that's happened we all know he's human after all and he can be afforded the patience needed because he's still extremely young for a midfielder.

Well said @The red panther ....i agree with everything. Good signing for Mönchengladbach.....but they really shouldn't pay more than 15m € for him.
They are also interested in Rode from Bayern Munich.

He joined Dortmund two months ago. Ffs didn't see the date

That's a bit harsh. He had a poor season but give the lad a break, he's still only 19. As I said before, I expect him to have a much better season, he looks up for it.

Wasn't sure where to post it but this thread seems relevant.

Read an interview with a Polish youth player who's basically a product of Anderlecht youth teams. He's captained Anderlecht in their U-16/U-17 groups a bit, etc. Now the important part is that he's played and is mates with Youri Tielemenans. The Belgian gets namedropped in this interview and Łukasz Płonowski (this Polish guy) says that Youri called him recently and told him that Mourinho himself called him and asked him if there's a chance of him moving to United.

Quoting myself from midfield options thread.
