Yoann Gourcuff

Gourcuff has been pretty average this season

How has Sissoko been?

I didn't watch one single Toulouse game this season. Statistics say he was Toulouse's most used player, scoring 7 goals in the process. He's also ranked as their second best performer

obviously he's continued establishing himself, which for any youngster is a good thing, though as Gourcuff's example shows it's consistency that's toughest to obtain.

Do you think Gourcuff would be good for us Nani Nana?

He is a player that craves confidence, or else he will start trying to look too smart and do the same tricks over and over again. He can be a decisive influence as much as he can completely miss games when it matters most, as some of you probably saw against Ireland.

We already have such a player further up the pitch, don't we. It all boils down to the price tag really, more than £15m is perhaps not the good option, especially since £7m were too expensive for Adem Ljajic (best player on the pitch for Fiorentina yesterday). In terms of professionalism he seems a committed lad (continued playing in spite of a torn muscle at the weekend), but I'm not too fond of his behaviour. Often seems a tad excitable, which may be linked to the first paragraph

I'd like to ask those who have seen a lot more of Gourcuff than I have where he can realistically operate on the field?

How has Sissoko been?

Toulouse had a more difficult season than last year but Sissoko remains one of their strongest assets. One of the players that i really like this year though he has been less impressive these last few months. Still very young, we'll need to see how much progress he can make but he is incredibly gifted as i once said here : very strong, good technical skills, his speed is more than correct for his size, quite a complete player. Often quoted as a defensive midfielder but i've seen him play many times high up on the pich and even on the right.

I think it depends on what you think a DM is. For me he does what a real DM is supposed to. Which is take care of physical, ball winning and defensive play in the midfield while getting high up the pitch to support attacks. I'd rather have his type in my team over 3rd center backs like Makelele.

You'd have thought that by looking at Anderson now compared to his youtube videos you'd realise it's not smart to make judgements based purely on them..

Well, I was biasing myself that Gourcuff > Anderson but just pointing out that a few attributes, especially how Gourcuff plays, looks a bit more advance than Anderson at times. Both potentially world class players mind you.

I just love this goal. Best individual goal for me, not that Ronaldo/Messi's dribbling from the half way line isn't good, but this tecnique for me was sheer class.

Joking aside he is the EXACT player we need in our side.

I'm pretty sure you said something similar about Berbatov and they have a lot of similarities so...

I think he'd be a wonderful player to have but given the amount of criticism Berbatov's got I'm not so sure Gourcouff's going to be much different. He disappears from games, even sets of games, and that doesn't seem to be the way it works here.

Our fans don't really like luxury players, which Gourcouff undoubtedly is. I think that's why it's more likely we'll get Milner - might not have the same peak but is a lot more reliable.

I totally agree. Would love him in our squad. Cocks out !!!!!!!

Why, there's been no suggestion we're looking to sign him, nor that he wants to leave or is available.

I agree that he's a quality player, and personally would rather see him join than Silva or Benzema - but honestly I don't think we;ll see any of those players coming here in the summer.

I wouldn't compare Milner with Gourcuff unless Milner has played in the CL. Gourcuff did exceptionally well this season, Milner has been good too but if you consider talent and potential, I doubt you'd pick Milner.

Also, I'm not sure why Berbs is considered... Completely different players and coming in with a completely different age.

Why don't you rate players in what you see of them, not with other bad examples.

Yeh i probably did say something similar about Berbatov, but for whatever reason he is no where near the player he was at spurs and mentally cant handle it.

I rate Gourcuff and feel we need an attacking midfielder as number one priority, this is what he is, he is young and has enormous potential, this is where Ferguson does his magic. We need someone with a bit of spark and potential to become world class in their position.

If we're signing Milner we're not signing Gourcouff, or vice-versa, which is the basis of the comparison. It's not a comparison of quality or experience.

And the comparison to Berbatov was about how they're luxury players, and how usually luxury players don't work out for us. Comparing the types of signings not the position they play in.

It's not my fault you just misinterpreted all of the 'bad examples'.

Which there are questions over Gourcouff still, see him at Bordeaux this year and his stint at Milan. I'm not saying there are problems, but there might be some so I'd not get my hopes up before knowing the full story.

So what did you see of him in Milan ? Certainly Kaka' was undroppable and they play exactly the same positions, mostly used wide and was a youngster in need of games, I certainly didn't rate Gourcuff as a flop in Milan. It's Milan's stupidity that they let go of such talent.

Regarding Bordeaux, it wasn't a coincidence he brought them a ligue 1 title in his first year there, he was stunning and this season he hasn't been to shabby.

I'm sure you do rate Gourcuff to some degree...

Yes, but we haven't signed Milner yet.

Luxury ? I'm sure every Manutd Fans didn't think Berbs was a luxury player, we totally concluded with his form at spurs that he'll form the best EVER partnership with Rooney and we will be dominant in the league and Europe with him which wasn't the case. He looks like a luxury player now because SAF plays him only against small teams.

I saw him score a goal against Athens right at the start of the season and he looked impressive way back then, you could always see his talent. And at the top of his game he's majestic and makes football a joy to watch, he makes it all look so effortless.

But then there's the downsides to him, somewhat reminiscent of the problems said about Berbatov before he came to us, or the problems we seem to be witnessing:

“He must work on his mental side in order to become a great player because he quickly collapsed here. No doubt he’s a top player, but the mental aspect was his main problem when he was with us.

“One day he was at the top, the other day he was at the bottom.”

Well yes, I do:

I think he'd be a wonderful player to have ...

Berbatov was always somewhat of a luxury player, it comes with his style. I think Gourcuff's the same.

Luxury players can still be a great asset and I've nothing against the style itself but I'm just not sure it's in Sir Alex's nature to accommodate them the way they like to be.

No, it doesn't deny the fact that you think he'd be perfect for this team. Just like you thought with Berbatov.

Obviously there's a risk you're just blatantly ignoring which takes away from being the bestest signing everest.

Every signing would be a risk. Doesn't garuntee anything.

As for Berbs, I truely liked him because I had this really nice Bulgarian friend which I met at my work and travel program to the states, I still remember that was the season where we lost to Milan... but we did get the PL. He said Berbs was a god in Bulgaria and he said he'd be perfect for Manutd. Well.... I mean, he just hasn't worked out, neither did Veron, neither did Forlan etc...

We're never going to get the perfect signing if we don't risk.
