Yoann Gourcuff

Why the hell would we be interested now when we clearly were not interested just a couple of months ago at a similar price - especially with the player (seemingly, according to the article) failed to settle at a second big club with big expectations.

£18m after he just signed for Lyon for roughly the same fee :wenger:
Sometimes journos should stop printing these articles and actually inform themselves on how this and that club operate during transfer windows. They don't know shit but they still come up with shit

What is amazing is they still hold jobs in nations where the better qualified but unemployed exist. Despite doing such obviously shoddy work.

If we purchase just Defour and Ninis next year I'd be more than happy. Gourcuff really doesn't seem to travel well.

Is it true he's fallen out with the Lyon coach already? I don't think we will ever had a midfielder in the Gourcuff/Patore mould whle Fergie is in charge.

That would be a decent summer....

No there is no problem between him and Puel. It's just that the Lyon want their coach as they shout "Puel démission" (Puel out) at every home game. It's not an easy context for him to do well so not surprisingly he has struggled so far

Now he is typical Greek player. Skillful and tough. It's gonna be interesting to see what he develops into.

I don't see how calling him a typical Greek player can be seen as being a compliment, unless shit has lost all of it's negative connotations overnight.

Gourcuff has potential though, a few bad months here and there doesn't mean you are a bad player. I bet those of you saying you don't want him now would have been creaming themselves silly had we signed him a couple of months ago.

Still, bullshit and is extremely unlikely to materialise.

Scholes 2003:drool:

Wasn't that when we were trying to fit Veron in?

I see, I was curious when Lyon bought him as to how he and Pjanic would operate in the same midfield.

Just for the chief, enjoy.
Manchester United Set Sights On £22m French International Playmaker

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping to secure long term target Yoann Gourcuff this summer and will make a substantial offer for the Lyon playmaker that he has been monitoring for the last couple of seasons.

The talented box to box player has the ability to dictate the game from the centre of midfield and has been likened to a young Paul Scholes and the 24 year old is uppermost on Ferguson’s wish-list and some reports suggest that Gourcuff isn’t totally happy with life at Lyon and could be open for a move to the Premier League giants.

Ferguson is looking to build up the next generation of Man United talent as he sees a number of his established names near the end of their glittering careers and with this in mind he has identified a number of young additions to his Old Trafford squad and this process is evidenced by the signings of Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling in the summer.

The club’s owners have reportedly promised significant funds to help the rebuilding process and a move for Gourcuff would cost around £20-24m.

Football Manager says yes

It was on the caughtoffside. com, so I did not even bother to post it here.

As I said it was purely for the enjoyment of the Chief, I know how wet he gets over a good Yourcuff link and the poor guy hasn't had one in such a long time, so even if it is caughtoffside, I thought it was still worth it for the lad.

If Fergie was all that interested, he would have made a move last summer when h was clearly for sale, he wouldn't have waited until after Lyon signed him - negotiating with Lyon is a freaking nightmare!

But we had so many more options last year. Ozil, Sneidjer, Schweinsteger, VDV etc. But this summer there won't be as many options so Fergie MIGHT look at him a little more closely.

all options he seemingly did not want. Schweinsteiger would be the only one that Fergie could have held off on Gourcuff for, with the hope of getting Schweinsteiger this summer at good value (with just a year left). I still don't think Fergie would have let Gourcuff go from Bordeaux without any kind of offer on the back of maybe/possibly having a chance to get BS this summer.

I don't think Fergie was or is interested in any of them.

I agree my muppet king! Congrats on your landslide award!!!

Gourcuff is a talent thats for sure but he'd wouldnt make it in England thats been my impression for quite a while now.

Well met sir, I dub thee Baron Deco!

Has anyone heard of the Crunch Sports website?

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Yoann Gourcuff from Lyon

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been an admirer of the 24-year-old for some time and reports in France on Thursday suggested the Premier League side could be preparing to make a bid for the France international.

United are keen to bring at least one new midfielder to Old Trafford this month and will be likely wanting to bring in one further new addition in the summer.

Ferguson is widely expected to offload injury-prone England international Owen Hargreaves at the end of the season, while Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs are coming to the end of their illustrious careers, citing the need for the Scot to add to his squad.

Gourcuff isn't believed to be particularly happy at Lyon, partly because coach Claude Puel is often unable to accomodate both him and fellow midfielder Miralem Pjanic, who has emerged as a target for Chelsea.

At least one of the two midfielders could leave the club between now and the start of next season, and according to reports, Goucuff, who would cost in the region of £20million, could be the subject of talks between the two clubs in the near future.

Tribalfootball cannot hold a candle to Caughtoffside, not even in the same league.
Nowadays yes, but in it's day Tribal was the best for bollocks and has been unrivalled ever since. It has recently tried to become a more respected site. caughtoffside has done the opposite, it started off respectable with actual insight but it didn't get the hits as it was only making it's stories once every other week.
