Pretty much what I think as well. Sommer is good, occasionally out of this world, but we should aim for someone consistently betterHe's a perfectly solid keeper. Feels like we can do better though?

Check. Mate.Funny you say that, because Raya looks more like a Man Utd goalkeeper than de Gea.
He didn't play in the last Swiss game did he?
Isn’t it great having a manager we trust? I’m often of the same opinion with most of the rumoured transfers and indeed the players we already have. It’s Erik’s way or the highway! If ETH rates him then let’s get him.
Di Maria vibes?!I remember the reaction when people found out Martinez, a CB, was 5”9
Waiting for people to realise that Sommer is a 5”5 Goalkeeper
Too shortCan he play as a striker?
That’s a good thing now though, right?!Too short
Can't see this being true. Why would we replace De Gea, who is having a very good season, with an older, worse keeper? Would be a very weird move.
A lot of United fans seem to have gotten this strange obsession with replacing De Gea with just about anyone but the truth is there aren't many better keepers out there.
If he's signed, I would assume it's as a backup with Dubravka going back to Newcastle.
Get out!Why not wait until the Sommer to sign him?
He's 33, so he's not even Yann
Maybe we are signing him on a pre contract agreement in January for him to arrive in the summer rather than for him to come immediately?
I seriously doubt we are going to be losing either of DDG n Dubravka in January.
I'm all for a freebie for the summer which allows us to spend money elsewhere. He's a solid keeper and always has been.
Why are people so confidently saying De Gea is better than him? I haven’t watched a lot of Bundesliga, but is there any area of goalkeeping De Gea actually does better than Sommer?
haha no chance. Sommer is the better keeper.Or we could keep De Gea who is ten times the 'keeper.
Sounds like a good plan as long as this guy turns up to be good enough for ETH.A cheap keeper for a year or two because we're blowing the budget on a midfielder and striker? Ok.
And I remember back then lots of fans thought signing VDS was a ridiculous idea as he was old, flopped at Juventus and only did well in Fulham because he was under no pressure. The general consensus was that he could not handle the pressure of playing for big clubs. A lot of fans thought we were better off sticking with Tim Howard, or should at least try to get Given as he was younger and had higher potential. If ETH rates him then let’s get him. He always looks sturdy for Switzerland in big tournaments.
About to turn 34 which is still prime years in goalie lifespans. We got Edwin when he was 34.

You missed one. Yannuary. So are we signing him in January or are we waiting until the Sommer?
Sorry

I was thinking the same — assuming that Sommer is more of a ‘modern’ ‘keeper.Feels like he could be our Claudio Bravo type signing. Not necessarily an improvement on current goalkeeper, and not an elite goalkeeper however a move to a different style?

He definitely is used to play in a possession based team and isn't afraid of the ball like DDG sometimes appears to be.I was thinking the same — assuming that Sommer is more of a ‘modern’ ‘keeper.
