He would be a clear upgrade, particularly within the system we want to play. It is obvious he would not be coming to us as a number 2 though, he can stay as a starter at Gladbach or start for any number of clubs should he choose to leave. If ETH wants him this is the time to finally make a hard decision and make it clear to Sommer that he would be coming in as number 1 and let DDG know he is going to be relegated to the bench.
I don't know for sure but I don't think he is even 4th choice for Spain.
He'd instantly be the #1. He's better than De Gea at everything EtH cares about. He's got absolutely nothing to worry about from a World Cup perspective.

Exactly this. The point was made that Pep got City playing his way in part by binning Hart and signing Brava. Brava was not the long term answer but he was a good bridge to get the team playing the right way before a permanent solution was found and Sommer could do the same for us.

We can publicly put out that were looking for a backup, but we better not be doing that negotiating with players/agents. Don't really care if Sommer or any other keeper were interested is as good a shot stopper as long as they are better playing out from the back and take better command of the box.
Exactly. By all means brief the press that he's coming in as competition if that's the PR spin you want to give it but make sure the player is under no illusions. He is and will be number 1.

Why aren't we after Keylor Navas? He's lost his number 1 spot to Donnarumma. He's comfortably better than DdG, is gettable (rumours suggest he wants to leave PSG). Only 32 years old so will have a good few years to give still.

Keylor Navas is world class but he is also 35 already. so not a long term solution, but Sommer is not young either.

This should really be the last season for Dave. If we're moving on, then Dave can't be around for the next 2 years. Won't work.

Has a good source confirmed our interest? Can't even be bothered about the height as it doesn't seem to have helped Dave. Though when you see DDG live, he looks so slight.

For a goalkeeper that's fine. Van der Sar was 35 when we signed him, and he ended up being one of our best signings ever.
Sommer or Navas please, no more de Gea.
