I’m not denying it looks excellent. I just wouldn’t put any racing game as GOTY. The best game I’ve played this year is Returnal.

There's not a single racing game ever that will win the outright GOTY. Same with sims.

The main contenders will always be shooters and action adventure games. Forza will probably be a top 10 game in those lists but this is @Alock1 bringing the VS thread into here with mad claims like that.

Oh shit I thought it came out next week.

Reviews aren't surprising. It's a brilliant series.

As I said.. game of the year @esmufc07

It's so much more than a 'racing' game and people who haven't played it don't get that, but it's hugely popular these days with tons of people who otherwise couldn't care less about the genre
It does come out next week (Tuesday on GamePass). It's only available tomorrow if you've bought the Premium edition (early access basically).

Forza looking good

If it wasn't for GT7s VR support I'd be incredibly tempted... I'll see how that is and then reassess. Forza gon Forza.

@Alock1 how's that gamepass dongle thing coming along?

It's true about racing games, but I really don't understand why it's the case. A good game is a good game, it's seems pretty shit that you can't get due recognition because of the genre and games that may not be as good will get a leg up.

They're a pretty niche genre and aren't "system sellers". To a casual audience they probably look boring, which is why crap like CoD always places high on these types of lists.

Racers are one of my favourite types of games and I really want to try FH5. But there's noway that's getting GOTY. Halo Infinite will probably place higher than it.

Is Returnal a system seller? Was Control? I'm not sure that criteria matters, and actually anecdotally (which doesn't count for me) Horizon is absolutely a system seller. Not like a naughty dog game of course, but more than most games.

It's not just a racing game either to @esmufc07 point. This isn't 50 cars on 30 tracks with nice polish. It's a huge open world with tons of variety in landscape, dynamic weather and seasons, shared open world, and loads of different options for gameplay (racing, open world roaming, challenges, barn finds etc.) and brilliant multiplayer including full game co-op, multiplayer modes (like tag, king of the hill, capture the flag), a battle royale and a huge builder/creator sandbox. There's an incredible amount of content there, as well as incredibly tight and fun racing and/or open world experience depending on what you're looking for.

It's as deserving of GOTY as anything else I agree it's less likely to get the recognition from publications as GOTY itself, but that's just based on arbitrary criteria rather than the quality of the game itself.

I'd certainly place Returnal higher, but it probably isn't my GOTY. I'd always give extra credit for something new, especially new IP like Returnal.

I have no doubt FH is amazing, but there is no chance that it's GOTY and as I pointed out, I wouldn't be surprised if the publications like Giant Bomb that do a more specific GOTY lists will place Hot Wheels above Forza just because of how much of a sleeper hit it is.

This really isn't me slagging Forza off, it's the first Xbox game that's giving me FOMO.

I was just saying goty to be honest. Regardless of whether a publication gives it. It's worthy of being (seemingly.. fh4 certainly was)

Is that firestick type dongle still happening?

GOTY isn't even a real thing, as there's no central authority deciding it (like the Oscars). Not even "The Game Awards" or whatever. I'm sure you'll find certain sites and publications who will have FH5 as their overall GOTY. It's not unthinkable at all.

And anyway, who cares? If it's the game you enjoyed the most this year, it's essentially your game of the year.

Really expecting good things coming with the new partnership with Sega. Sega still releases a lot of amazing titles.

They would be morons then - you don't put games that are 'good' on a GOTY list.

Spot on.

Premium edition is available tomorrow, general release is next Tuesday I believe. I bought the premium add-on using Microsoft space bucks.
Are you referring to Microsoft Reward Points? I've got around 55k of them but have never redeemed anything so far. Do you just convert the points into the £5 gift cards?

I do - use the auto-redeem way and it costs even less, like 4500 a month I think for £5

Yeah I convert them into gift cards to spend when I want something. I don't do the auto redeem as those gift cards expire after 90 days I think and with all the games on gamepass I never need to really buy games now. So I've got around 220k points if something really tickles my fancy, renewing gamepass, or if that expansion card drops in price.

That was my point, not that it'll get loads of awards. But that as far as I was concerned, it was on track to being GOTY

People jumping on it because publications don't give racers GOTY doesn't really take away from it being of that standard/quality, which is the point.

Can't wait anyway. Game looks mega.

Found the Bing/Edge user
Actually I try to do all of the daily/weekly/monthly challenges to avoid having to use bing  that's where I draw the line. I have been meaning to give Edge a go though as apparently its actually pretty good and Chrome is a resource hog.

Cool, thanks for the info. When you redeem the points for the gift cards does it give you them as codes or does it just apply £5 to your account?

Actually really impressed at how well they managed to get it to look on the Xbox One. The bit at 4 minutes where they had the game running on all systems with one controller was really cool. I think Fable is in very good hands with Playground Games.

Played a bit of Forza Horizon 5 on the PC through Game Pass yesterday. Good stuff despite an issue with network disconnects and the world being a bit empty, but they're working on a fix for that. Game looks and feels great, fantastic map, loads of content, etc.

Psychonauts 2 is my goty (one of the best platformers of all time, I'd then go guardians of the galaxy which is as good as any of Sonys top tier third person games, then Hades, then returnal but there's still halo and have to play more of FH5.

I'm fed up with Quick Resume not working half the time. This has happened on both Series X consoles I've owned.

What's the issue?

It's iffy in games that have their own servers and which force you to be online to access certain parts (i.e. The Show and PES). It's a bit like when you shut your laptop and then the WiFi disconnects but wakes up a few seconds after you open it again. That slight pause seems to make certain games have a hissy fit, which I assume is a security feature or something.

Or maybe your problem is different?

Very hit and miss for me for Call of Duty. Fails back to the home UI nearly every time.

Forza Horizon 5 is the latest one. It does not appear in my QR list despite it being the last thing I played.

It's just so hit and miss, for me. I would never trust a save with it.
These are both online. That's why. It's not going to keep you online the whole time

It's not that. I understand it losing it's internet connection, but the actual game itself is not in QR. It should still work, just not the online part.

In that that case it'll be the servers. They had some first day issues

Quick resume always works for me but yeah if its an online game where you have to be connected then obviously it takes you back to the first menu to restart that process. There's no alternative to that really outside of keeping you connected for potentially months at a time across loads of games (and presumably the games themselves wouldn't want that and would kick you after x time anyway)

I should still be able to resume to the main menus of CoD without it failing, it's not like I'm switching off mid game and expecting to come back to it. If it's not possible to do this because of the type of game, then it should be disabled for said game. Don't give me the option and then take 20 seconds before crashing out basically every time.

thinking of getting the S on black friday if there are any bundle deals with headphones, extra controller etc, is the S worth it or should I just be buying the X, general gamer, not hardcore, will probably do the gamepass hack to get ultimate so not bothered about physical copies of games.
