lol at the first page....
Xavi is "a slight upgrade of Carrick"
Xavi is "a slight upgrade of Carrick"
in my opinion no fecken chance any midfield player from barac will go to shitty !!
Amends why?Chief, would you like to make any amends on your opinion on Xavi now?
Amends why?
If I had to chose between this guy and Carrick I'd take Carrick, at least Carrick can tackle slightly. Xavi would starve to death if he had to do it for food.
I wouldn't change that. I'd still pick Carrick over him as holding player partner for a Scholes every single time for the way a side like United plays. It is only if we played the Barca pressing game that I'd pick Xavi instead.About this.

Also on another note,l dont think I've seen Xavi throw in tackles. He is the master of stealing balls Blanc style.
I didn't need too. It was fairly obvious people were talking about a partner for Scholes in a standard United 2 man midfield. You didn't preface your original statement with "as a holding player partner for Scholes", though. ....
You mean like Yaya Toure?
Tell us first if you have ever discovered concrete evidence you have a brain?
Xavi is the type of player that can play well into his 30s. He is a symbol of Barca. They'll keep him till he retires.
In a two man midfield it is suicide. Especially alongside a partner who can't tackle at all, in a team that doesn't press like Barca do.Stealing the ball Blanc's style is arguably more beneficial as it allows for quicker passes to be played which can be played to our style of counter-attacking football though.
I will repost my previous reply just for effect:LOL - again I'll post it , leaving barca , euro champs for manchester. you are a tw4t!
Xavi is as good as his options imo
Give him the right environment and he'll excel.
I don't think he can deliver at the likes of Man City where the movement isn't great.
i.e Barry
Difference is his own movement, he never stops. Always finds space and uses it well. That's what sets him apart.
Barry... he's even more average than Carrick.

because it never dawned on you that the entire darn arguments in the thread were hypothetical from the get go

What a load of shite. A player like Xavi, not being able to perform Carrick's role? Your reasoning is the biggest crock of shite I've ever heard on this forum. Here is a guy who values the ball like no other and is one of the most deadliest passers in the world, even more so when confronted with open space, and you think he can't fit in a side which plays on the counter-attack?
To be fair, I'm not sure he can provide the protection Carrick offers our defense, especially ariel.
Carrick is a big factor as to why our defense has been so incredible in Europe for so long.
So as a like for like replacement I think it's fair to say that Xavi wouldn't be able to directly replace Carrick. The reason it is a ridiculous statement though is because if we had Xavi we wouldn't be trying to play him in that role in that system.

Carick is better than Xavi at defending, but Carrick isn't exactly a great defender.
Why are we even comparing Carrick to Xavi?
Have my doubts about him being suited to the premiership and the United way.

My god. Some of you saying you'd prefer Carrick over Xavi.
fecking hell.
Do you even watch football?
If Carrick + Xavi doesn't work out, I'd send Carrick to the reserves and play someone else alongside Xavi. Xavi is absolutely fecking ace.
For all this bollocks about tackling and defense, with Xavi you'd have 60% of the ball.
No you don't.
Xavi covers more ground than Carrick easily.
Are you for real? You really want to convince us that Xavi would have made an excellent defensive midfield player in team that had Ronaldo on one wing and Giggs on the other? What? You think the opponents would never get the chance to attack? Have you even accounted for what would happen when they didn't have the ball? What a load of shite. Rather it tells of what an idiot you are. Thanks for proving it's initial sentiments right once again.yes and it tells me you're a tw4t!
CorrectBecause someone did four years ago, and that argument's being refought because there's no football anywhere and people will go mad if they don't find something football-related to talk about.
Xavi would suck as holding player for team that plays like United when partnered by Paul Scholes. It shouldn't even be debatable. The defence would end up horrendously exposed. At the rate some of you are disputing this you will soon try to convince us that Scholes and Zidane would make a great 2 man center midfield partnership! You don't have to be a brilliant tackler to be a good deep lying central midfielder. If people think that Xavi would not be a better player in a deep lying role for us than Michael Carrick, then they seriously need to take off their red tinted specs. ....
