Barca May Xav Ronnie
Manchester United face a battle to keep Cristiano Ronaldo after Barcelona president Joan Laporta made the Portugal winger his top target for next season. But United want the Spanish club's midfielder Xavi Hernandez, which could pave the way for a player-plus-cash deal. Laporta is determined to land Ronaldo, stung by his failure to sign No.1 target Thierry Henry last season. Manager Frank Rijkaard is not so keen on the player. A Barcelona source said: "Rijkaard doesn't feel Ronaldo is a priority and isn't sure it's worth spending £40m-plus for him. But Laporta has Ronaldo in his head and after what happened with Henry, is even more determined to get his first-choice player."

Barcelona would and have never spent 30 million pounds on a player. Besides they can't afford to. We on the other hand can and have in the pastMarliMan said:what make you say that
How do you work out that we can afford Xavi? How much do you think he'd go for?Red Indian Chief Torn Rubber said:Barcelona would and have never spent 30 million pounds on a player. Besides they can't afford to. We on the other hand can and have in the past
You've answered yourself. If we could spend that much on Carrick. We can easily spend 25million on Xavi. Barca don't spend in our fashion at all...Cornell said:How do you work out that we can afford Xavi? How much do you think he'd go for?
If Carrick was 14-18, then Xavi has to be 20+
But we spent that much because we desperately needed a midfielder and Fergie had his heart set on Carrick, who Spurs didn't want to sell.Red Indian Chief Torn Rubber said:You've answered yourself. 1. The situation hasn't changed. We still desparately need more midfielders.Cornell said:But we spent that much because we desperately needed a midfielder and Fergie had his heart set on Carrick, who Spurs didn't want to sell.
Whether Malcolm will shell out another inflated price is yet to be seen.
Before you abuse anyone mate. In our current squad, if we bought Xavi no, who would you play in the two center midfield slots between Scholes, Carrick and Xavi? Remember Xavi can't tackle for his supper and we won't use 4-3-3?zing said:My god. Some of you saying you'd prefer Carrick over Xavi.
fecking hell.
Do you even watch football?
If Carrick + Xavi doesn't work out, I'd send Carrick to the reserves and play someone else alongside Xavi. Xavi is absolutely fecking ace.

Edmilson and Motta have better defensive bite than Carrick. But if Scholes can survive alongside Carrick so can Xavi. In short I agree with you.marcus agrippa said:Xavi has played alongside Edmilson and Motta, players who are not as good as Carrick imo. so why wouldn't it work out?
Duh! No one said they are not average. They just have more bite in their tackles than Carrick. Hence offer better protection to Barca's mostly shit defence.Sarni said:Thiago Motta and Edmilson are fecking average players.
I think they will if we are really interested. Especially since Giovanne Do Santos seems a real talent and Iniesta has been fantastic this season. I doubt Xavi would enjoy benching for Iniesta.kanchelskis14 said:We've been linked to Xavi in the past, a few years ago i think, the same summer we got Ronaldo. Might be something real in fergie's interest, although i doubt they'd sell him to us.
All average players are abit shit mateSarni said:I'd even say they are a bit shite despite playing for Barcelona.

You are wrong. Giovanne Do Santos is an attacking midfielder who is very comfortable as a forward ala Ronaldinho or Scholes. He was the attacking midfield general of the first Mexican side to win a world cup at youth level.kanchelskis14 said:Giovanni Dos Santos has nothing to do with Xavi, he's a forward.
