Xavi Simons: any good?

I would be surprised if PSG don't take him back.

He has been terrorising Arsenal today whenever he gets the ball.
He didn't really get many chances there. He may move elsewhere but I doubt it'll be back to PSG.

the kid is good, excited about his future!

I'm surprised there's not more fuss for this kid. Only 19 years old (nearly 20) and has 14 goals and 7 assists in 28 games in the eredivise.

He plays mostly as a CAM, but looking at his stats que can also play at all the front 3 and as a CM. Seems like a gem, we should be all over him.

Thumb rule at RedCafe is if we sign an underwhelming player from a particular league, we’re done with all players from there. Stats, age, profile means feck all.

We signed Licha, Antony and Malacia. Which have been pretty decent, Antony hasn't lived up to his price tag but still he's a decent player.

No reason why we shouldn't keep signing players from that league.

His profile is a little bit different than what we currently have, think another year at PSV then come back in for him would be a great decision. Extremely dynamic dribbler, although I genuinely don’t know if he can be Bruno’s successor as a chance creation machine.

In a year he could cost a lot more. This is the moment, we always complain about why don't we sign players before they cost 60M+.

Cost is irrelevant when a player is not ready, and I don’t think being a bit part player scrapping for minutes with the man who’s played the most minutes at the club is going to help that development. The player himself has said that he has the last call even if psg activate their buyback, which to me seems as if he isnt guaranteed certain minutes he won’t be happy.

Really? I've been hearing about this kid since he was in La Masia, probably around 2018. If anything he's probably not living up to expectations yet. (Expectations and hype were ridiculously high although)

Goal and a fantastic assist to Fabio Silva with the outside of his boot. I see him as the Bruno replacement that can come in to the team and make a difference right away. He's putting up the G/A whilst having a huge influence on the PSV attack.

Then again Gakpo's G/A numbers for PSV this season are 100% better than Simons' (+103% in all comps). Simons is a talented player who probably has a good career ahead of him. Will be interesting to see what his main position will eventually be. But I wouldn't expect him to come to PL and make a difference right away. Maybe at a smaller club, who knows. I'd say LaLiga or Serie A might be a better fit for him.

So we shouldn't sign a promising player because we have Bruno?

See Real Madrid, they got loads of talent in midfield. If we want to compete for the big titles we need real competition in the squad right now Bruno is untouchable even if he's playing shit (which he isn't) there's no one in the squad who might actually take his place in the starting XI.

Also Simons can play anywhere in the front 3 or in midfield as well. He's only played half of this season games as a CAM.

Here's a statement:
Xavi Simons. One of the very very best who’ve ever played for PSV
As the Dutch Jesus said:
That's quite a bold statement for a club that's had Ronaldo, Romario, Robben, , Gullit, Van Nistelrooy (and I'm probably forgetting a few here).
But Eendracht is a PSV fan and will know all of these players very well - so it's high praise!

Should’ve said who I’ve seen play for PSV. Most of the players mentioned played before my time! But he’s by far the best player this year in a dreadful team.

Completely agree, haven't seen this impact from a 19 year old since Robben.

Hope he can become as good. Especially since unlike Robben he doesnt seem to be made of glass.

I feel like I saw him play and was extremally impressed but cant remember when! Gonna try and watch some games with him.

first thought was that Chris Marsden goal where he just ran with the ball in a straight line into the box, good finish round the keeper though

I f the story is correct he wanted to extend with PSG, PSG wanted him to extend, he also wanted to go to PSV but PSV were only taking him if they owned his registration. So PSG, PSV and Simons agreed on a 4m buy back clause this summer.

That's just a loan with extra steps

Back to PSG. PSV fans must be gutted as he carried them almost single handedly as a 19 year old last season. If he had signed for them they would've had a giant paycheck in the future.

Shame he's going to PSG though, no one cares about the French league :wenger:

Only seen him play live once and he was shocking. (Vs The Rangers UCL Qualifier) horrendously poor. A boy against men, not sure if he can be the level PSG are looking. I expect them to be looking to make a quick buck out of him rather than bringing him back to play.

He's had an amazing season. PSV's top scorer and easily most important player. Also did well in the Europa League. He only played 1 half against Rangers and I think it was his first match for PSV.

This dude is a massive talent and he will end up a top player. I know feck all about talents, but this guy is it.

Well that’s it then, thread closed, he’s mint. We’ve got our answer.

He could have refused the PSG offer right? Another team could have come in for him.

Indeed but he negotiated the deal because he didn't want to leave permanently in the first place. So while PSG and Simons could have changed their mind, they basically did what they intended to do from the beginning.
