Xabi Alonso is horrendously overrated

Ignore the thread title, it amazes me how this guy stays for 90 minutes on the pitch without getting red cards regulary. I swear whenever Real Madrid play these big games, Xabi gets away with at least two yellow cards, and since he is booked every time, that's at least one clear red card. It's really frustrating, I'm sure who ever watches Real Madrid regulary would agree.

All the best central midfield enforcers - Edgar Davids and Diego Simeone in particular - knew how to walk a tightrope, especially after picking up a yellow card. It's a skill that escapes most have-a-go chavs like Barton and Cattermole.

It's not walk in tightrope, it's embarrasment really for the game how referees ignore it and don't want to send him off. You could say that Scholes knew how to walk a tightrope against Stoke, because he controlled himself in second half, but Xabi Alonso continues to play same game after picking the yellow like he never got it, and gets away with same type of tackes after he got yellow for.
Referees just ignore it, it's not like they don't see it.

I know players sometimes get lucky and get away with it, but that's not the case here. Whoever watches el classico regulary, knows what I'm talking about.

Alonso has always been that sort of player. I also agree with Gio too, about the ability to worm your way through a game, and Makelele was one of the best. Thing about the Frenchman, was that once he got that yellow, he stepped up his game and you really could see his talent. A very classy footballer, and definitely under rated - not just a midfield stopper ... he had the ability to play a Xavi like role but without that extra creativity that Xavi (Hernandez, I'm talking about) has.

I said I was exaggerating regarding Alonso. For what it's worth Cabaye has always been a cnut in his attitude (in the way he speaks to the referee and tries to get other booked) but like Alonso he isn't a dirty player.
So not the same discussion and nothing to do with nationality

Fair enough.
