Liverpool have been a better team lately of course. But on the greater scheme of things United are on a different planet. Being a success with United is a much bigger deal than being a success with Liverpool. It just is that way.

And he was well affiliated with Bayern Munich. Didn’t reject the Leverkusen job… I think that link with Liverpool is so vastly overplayed. It means bollock all and shouldn’t have any impact on his managerial jobs. I wouldn’t blame Carrick taking the Liverpool job if he were offered it
 
Done a very very good job. Been there for what 2 years? Now the expectations rise for them, they’ll be expected to challenge every year which there capable of if they keep there best players.

The rivalry of Bayern and Leverkusen is not anywhere remotely as close as United and Liverpool. United and Liverpool is probably the biggest rivalry in football.

So? He’s not rejecting it just because of that. If he does then he’s an idiot. He’d also be an idiot to take the Liverpool job in the next few years

If he rejected it, I say it’ll be because he wants to go to la Liga or something.
 
Just shows the multiplying power of a good coach and the amount of nonsense spouted about how United need 6 or 7 players to be a force again.

Leverkusen have just dominated the BL in spectacular fashion, with such world beaters as Granit Xhaka and Alex Grimaldo as key players. The latter being a 30 year old free transfer from Benfica.

A coach like Alonso could do incredible things with the players we have. Not saying he could overhaul City but we’d be a really good team with him as a coach and this group of players.

Having the right atmosphere at the club is important of course, but with the overhaul we are going through, we should have no excuse next season to not be competing for the top three spots; irrespective of signings. Fact is, we have enormous resources, and will sign more players this summer, but it’s all a waste of time if you don’t have the right coach in place. We have seen that time and time again, and failed to make a single decent appointment since SAF retired.

A team with a total value of about 120 million pounds. This is what a real mananger does. Manage his team well, make them play well and win games. Not come up with excuses and throw the players under the bus every other game.

What do you mean so? You can't just make up rivalries and claim they're comparable to United and Liverpool. He is a well loved ex Liverpool player who still has strong feelings toward the club. It's obvious that would stop him from considering us.

Very weird to draw a comparable of taking the leverkusen job from that as an ex Bayern player. The two clubs are not remotely the same level of rivals.

I don’t buy this as a reason he’d reject the chance to manage Manchester United if offered the job. Just simply do not see it.

Gerrard? Maybe. Even then I’d be dubious. But I see no way Alonso rejects it solely on the basis he played for Liverpool for a while. He doesn’t owe them anything. It would be for another reason IMO if he did reject it.

He doesn't need to be Gerrard to have strong affiliations with his club. You won't see RvP considering Liverpool if he was sought after by every club in the world, and you won't see Xabi consider us.
 
Winning the Bundesliga with 5 matches in hand, and having not lost one yet, is pretty damn impressive. Can't wait to see how that squad gets gutted in the summer window because the offers for several players will be flying in.

Harold Kane has to feel like the stupidest footballer in the world right about now. How embarrassing for him.

yeah Real Madrid - Barcelona and Boca juniors vs River Plate can have a laugh at that.

That being said I don’t think he will ever coach either United or Barcelona.

Really can't help but laugh at Kane, only the CL left, won't be winning that either.

Anyway I cannot agree with you. I am very very confident I am correct and you are wrong. I’m equally as confident that you won’t change your mind. Even if he did go to United in June, I don’t think you’d back down. So we’ll have to agree to disagree.

Alonso might reject United but I’m sure it won’t be “id love to but I played for Liverpool once” it’ll be because he wants to go to La Liga/Madrid or something IMO. So I’d be trying to get him this summer if I were Berrada
 
Fantastic achievement for him. On his way to do the double (against 2. Bundesliga Kaiserslautern in the final), with a possible treble also in the cards. I believe he'll eventually end up at Anfield when he makes the decision to manage in the PL. And i can totally understand it, if he doesn't want to succeed Klopp right away.
 
Xhaka really knits that midfield together. Arsenal might have won a league or two if they kept him.
 
Fecking Spanish managers just seem to automatically be good.

Can we give it Juan Mata til the end of the season?

We aren't bigger than Real, and he'd go there. Liverpool themselves are an absolute behemoth club, and he's an adored ex player so he'd probably go there over us in his PL reign.

You can disagree with it but it's 99% the case.

It doesn't matter how big we are. We are his bitter rival and he won't consider us. There's nothing to say otherwise.

I said otherwise and I stick with it

Never said we’re bigger than Real but we’re one of the 3 biggest clubs in the world, the biggest in England by a long way and we’re playing in the most prestigious league in the world. Excellent job to take and we should be targeting the very best managers available, not the likes of De Zerbi/Potter

Agree - the pieces in place above the manager are certainly important and can help, but nothing is as necessary and important as the right manager. You don't get a team capable of winning leagues and cups and in Europe consistently without a top class manager.

I hope Leverkusen don't sell their best players to Bayern this summer like most German clubs doing well tend to do.

Leverkusen with Bayern relationship is nothing like United and Liverpools. He won the CL with Liverpool and is revered by their fans. There is 0 logic in hoping he would pick United over Liverpool, Bayern or Real Madrid. Sure, we have a bigger appeal than Liverpool for some managers. But we didn't for Klopp, and we sure as shit wouldn't for Xabi Alonso.

You're right, there are plenty of other reasons to reject United at this point of time. Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are better teams and more attractive jobs and I could also picture him managing Liverpool in the future.

The fact that he's staying is going to enforce and solidify his project at Bayer Leverkusen, so I think it makes it less likely the team gets dismantled for next season.

I agree with your sentiment but I don't think our size matters to ex Liverpool players who have strong affiliations with that club. One could argue him as being a club legend too.
