WWC23 | England v Spain - Spain win the World Cup - and Rubiales gets sacked

We're into the final matches of the group stage. Germany still have work to do, despite them beating Morocco 6-0 in the opening match. They're still clear favourites to qualify, but not such clear favourites to win the group.

Group winners will play Jamaica in the R16.
Runners up will play France.

I remember as a kid in 82, watching Cameroon draw against then outsider Peru, coming bronze winners Poland and winners Italy, to go out undeservedly on goals scored rule, and Algeria beating Germany only to see Germany and Austria make Anschluss The Sequel with a parodical draw to leave out tje underdogs. Those are so strong memories to me. Seeing Jamaica overcoming Brazil and South Africa beat Italy to go througj - this is why WC is special, and football is special. This is why somebody said about it: Bloody hell!

Imagine when Germany realized they will play 5th seed France instead of 43th seed Jamaica in the 16th finals because of that goal they let in vs Colombia in the 97th minute.

Germany will be out shortly, and they only have themselves to blame for it!

Korea nearly open the scoring but keeper + woodwork save it. It would have made Casey Phair the WWC youngest ever scorer - she's 16

But second attack and it's Korea scoring 1-0

They will be out sooner than I thought!

They've got plenty of time but it's been all Korea so far.

They might be baiting Marocko to beat Colombia, and then turn this around... They started so poorly that the scenario is not out of the question  :nono: or they just suck.

At the moment it's hard to square this team with the one that played the Euros last year. Early days in terms of the tournament and in terms of this match - but still strange to see.

Indeed. They seem totally clueless. Playing to get the coach fired. Sad to see.

Holy shit Germany, how boring have they become. I mean if they cant get over the half line with small passing, they better just be playing it long. Cant pass around their own half for the whole game, this is absurd. It feels like a morning practice session in intensity.

Does Germany have any quality on the bench? (not ANYOMI) The players on the pitch looks like they want to go home ASAP. Leupolz played the first game then benched.

Magull seems to be the only decent player to sub in.

Just appalling how there is no plan on what to do.

@Lyricist What the heck is going on?

So Germany finally realizes that against Asian teams your best bet is sending in high balls for the tall players?

The German players better throw the kitchen sink in the second half because they are in the hole as of now with the current result in the other match.

I would not be confident about that as poor as they looked in the 1st, and they have nothing to offer from the bench pretty much either. Oberdorf will pick up a yellow card and be suspended if they manage to go through, thats probably about it. Embarrassing performance thus far. Its not a world class defense they are facing!

You have to give some credit to other nations that have improved on organization and tackling, a lot of the fancied teams are getting ruffled.

Agreed. There was a lot of concern about the size of the tournament and the move from 24 to 32 teams. A lot of fear that we would see more 13-0 drubbings and walkover groups. The group stage has looked nothing like that - despite the number of countries making a first appearance.

Germany stronger but time's running out fast and Korea seems to get some confidence out of this.

Why are Germany not making any subs? Many of their players are dead tired and Brand for example has done nothing all game. Magull with experience on the bench. Germany should have subbed 2-3 more players after 60 minutes. Horrible coaching!
