WWC23 | England v Spain - Spain win the World Cup - and Rubiales gets sacked

Trouble with NZ winning to go though is we just don’t score goals, it’s been a problem for a number of years now. I don’t see us scoring in this game, the Swiss look comfortable defending

I’d be shocked if we (NZ) get a goal let alone the win from this game. I was at the game vs Phillipines and having watched the Norway and now this Swiss game, we just don’t seem to be able to play the ball into any of our forward players feet. Nothing comes through the middle, it’s all long hopeful balls for our striker to try to get on the end of while being outnumbered.
It’s all good though, we are developing. Quietly hoping they prove me an idiot and conjure up some magic, but not holding out any hope.
Totally late to the party on this one, but the atmosphere at USA vs Netherlands was great, and compared to the NZ vs Phillipines game, literally chalk and cheese skill wise.

Not a fan of Alisha Lehmann's you-know-what?

I also would like to see New Zealand through. But I can't say I have the same wish for Australia since they stand in the way of a Canadian qualification and since my favorite team in the AFC is Japan.
They're just dull. Though I admit my feelings are influenced by years of watching their men's teams (national and club) grind out results.

Though in this case, I also think it would be good for the tournament for NZ to go through.

That’s a yellow card at most. We’re getting all the luck with VAR in a game where don’t need it ffs.

NZ played so well in the first game, what happened to that team?!

Switzerland heading to the knockouts with 2 nil nil bore draws :boring:

I hope New Zealand can score but they lack quality in attack

8 minutes to save the tournament for NZ - they need to get more players in the box when they're attacking. They need to score.

How did this NZ team beat Norway? Seems like they could play for another 90 minutes and come no nearer to seriously threatening the Swiss goal.

We played our best game and caught Norway on a bad day. The reality is we are in a transition phase with too many older players needing to be moved aside

Frustrating - losing to Philippines after that start was such a disappointing result.

On the plus side we won our first game at a WWC and also the crowds have been much better in NZ than expected.

0-0 hosts go out. Swiss do their customary route to the knockouts.

Unfortunately New Zealand just not good enough. Switzerland were comfortable yet uninspiring

A draw in this game is not a bad result but yes NZ threw it away with that surprise loss against Phillipines

Shame for hosts to out this early, although I expect both Norway and Swiss to go out next round anyway

the tough bit was the incredibly close offside that ruled out out equaliser against the Phillipines, by the letter of the law correct but so marginally close.

Elbow to the ribs and Popp looks like she's in a fair bit of pain. Hopefully just a bruised and winded. 0-0 at 18 minutes.

Big chance for Popp there but not her usual high class finish - apparently she does sometimes miss. Still goalless at 44 minutes.

This may be the match that Colombia practiced for in that (stopped after 20 minutes) training match with Ireland. Certainly, Germany won't be enjoying it. 0-0 at HT, Colombia will be delighted, Germany need to find a way to crack this without getting frustrated themselves.

Damn what a goal, so skillful.

I blame the ref though. The attack that led to a corner should've been a freekick to Germany.
