WWC23 | England v Spain - Spain win the World Cup - and Rubiales gets sacked

So far one of the better games, 2 different styles both team giving it all and a couple of new players that are great to watch. Sophia Banini is one of those players that you expect something to happen every time she gets the ball.

Clearly offside, whether that's in the current iteration of the rule or the proposed amendment. No goal.

It was a funny game, arguably not enough shots on goal or chances created, maybe lacking in a certain amount of quality but one of those compelling games where the effort, intensity and desire of both teams made it compelling. Enjoyed it completely

A shame to see Morocco go one down so early. Popp had a basically uncontested header right on front of goal.

I'm intrigued by this match. Germany are one of the tournament favourites and one of the historic big teams of women's football. It's arguable they were the best team at least year's Euros - though the name on the trophy says they weren't :smirk:

Morocco are at their first WWC and I admit I hadn't realised how seriously their FA was taking the women's game until the women's African Cup of nations last year. Morocco hosted that tournament and they only narrowly lost thr final to South Africa in front of a 50,000 crowd in Rabay. Good manager as well, used to manage the Lyon team. I'm hoping they play well enough to build up some confidence from today - their other games will be easier!

Popp again. Last year's final would probably have ended differently with her.

What a waste! Morocco should have cut the deficit in half, especially when the replay showed that the play was ONSIDE.

Popp pops in a header from a corner. She's very hard to stop and Morocco are going to find every setpiece hard.

Morocco raced through on the break there and got a one on one - called off side as soon as she list the ball but shows there's still a way through.

Germany been pretty good so far, improvement from their prep games. Defence still looks shaky. Their group is pretty easy, they would probably benefit from having another top side in it. Will be a big step up for them in the knockout stages.

I've bet on Germany to win the whole thing - Spain and USA probably main threats

Thought I'd also bet on Popp for golden boot but looks like I forgot and too late now

Germany playing it well at speed. USA Germany look the best all round, then Spain Japan.

England do have a chance against these sides but are slipping away I feel.

Go for more goals or just play it safe and avoid yellow card and injuries at this point?

ANYOMI is playing, good lord. Every time I check the Germany squad I dont know how she still makes every team. Maybe she is good in friendlies but suck in the Euro and Worlds?

Would love to hear from people watching her in her club team if she is quality.

WTF just happened. Did the ref book a german player because of the reaction from the opposing player going down? That was hilarious, nowhere near a booking!

Im forever slagging off FIFA but their ticket pricing has meant the game is being seen by far more people than expected. This game having a 30k plus attendance on a Monday night in winter in Auckland.

GEYSE on the bench :-( Geyse and Kerolin are the 2 brazilian players United are interested in buying if possible!

Just been listening to the pre-match buildup. I found Brasil disappointing at WWC19 so it's interesting to hear that they've been going through a bit of "internationalisation" on the coaching side. Could be ominous for Panama if it does gell.
