Wout Weghorst

Just like in 'out' and add the 'w' like in 'we'. Depends a bit on your English accent I guess, but his first name is pretty straightforward for an anglophone.
It’s somewhere between “out” and “oat”, and also don’t forget both names start with a V when pronounced.

These two don’t quite add up. I’d go with the latter one, based on my altercations with the Dutch.

Has that dog in him which I appreciate.

United spent the last 6 months working on identifying a move that relies on Burnley and Besiktas wanting to do us a favour.

We are bottom percentile for planning surely, in the world of football.

Every decision maker deserves sacking there for this. Could cost us a chance of a trophy.

I actually like Weghorst and he would've only been loaned out due to his wages I bet. They'd want him back if they go up.

But to not have players and clubs lines up for moves before the window started when you're in the position we're in is poor again.

I mean by some rumours, we initially contacted Burnley about this in late December. There must have been some legs in this for a while given Weghorst felt comfortable enough to involve a goodbye in his goal celebration the other day.

I agree we don’t have prime examples of phenomenal planning, but given the options we have available this January, it seems we made an appropriate engagement with Burnley/Beskitas. Understandably it may have taken a bit of time because Beskitas will understandably feel wronged and will want to source out a replacement for Wout before agreeing to release him from a loan.

If Besiktas plan to keep him they must take into account that they'll be keeping a deceptioned player. Theres no way that Weghorst will happily let the chance to play for us fall through and continue as if nothing happened.

Can't say I'm super excited about this but it's another forward, a body where we have few and he is tall, only thing I've seen of him was that cameo vs Argentina were I did like his attitude, both teams played and acted dirty but at least he did not let them walk over him and got a couple of goals. So I can probably only get positively surprised

So a loan seems fine, perhaps with a buy option as well just as long we still go and get a main striker next summer. Did he play under ETH before? Seem to think I've read it in this thread.
Anyway the muppet in me wants a signing already haha

It’s so very rare that we can ever do a deal that isn’t lined with complications, regardless of the quality of player involved.

6 months? More like 6 weeks. If Ronaldo stayed until the end of the season we wouldn't have signed anyone until the summer.

We were streets behind when we brought back Cristiano, but now we're streets ahead because Ten Hag is making decisions.

FFS, even Bensitas playing hardball for a 30 years old player. United is broke mate, stop grinding us for pennies

Several factors you need to consider:

1. I doubt if they had anticipated having to tear up the Ronaldo agreement right before the World Cup -- and needing to find a replacement in December. The cnut has to take the blame for this.
2. I suspect ETH has a very specific type of players he has in mind during transfer windows. Our scouting team is new and they are probably coming to terms with what ETH wants. So I am sure there are plenty of strikers in their database. But not many that suit what ETH is looking for in December that's available.
3. We are skint so there aren't many choices you can afford (at usually a premium) in January.
4. The Glazers are selling -- so anyone in their shoes will not be willing to splurge for an investment that you will not see any returns on.

So as far as planning, its all work in progress since ETH only got here at United some 6 months and a bit ago. And when you consider all those factors and have a Venn diagram we are left with very specific options -- we have to thread a needle to find the one that ETH wants and needs.

ETH wants a striker who can press. According to stats, Wout seems to be the pressing striker ETH is looking for. I don't think Felix fits the bill actually, so Wout is a better short term option.

Wout is a pressing monster. Again that in itself doesn't mean much.

Wow Workhorse!

Some of you all think if a player plays for Besiktas/Burnley he is some amateur street chav that United should be able to sign in half a day.

This guy is a world cup playing dutch national striker! These deals can take some time

Gallagher is not no.1? Every time I watched him playing (West brom or crystal palace), he was basically a pressing maniac!

The problem is we don't have time with the fixture list pile up,really needed him as a wildcard option against City but alas not to be

Would also have taken Depay back for a bit more forward line depth too, however sounds like from Romano it's not an option now

Weghorst and Felix makes sense, they occupy different roles, but I think Weghorst and Depay is just two options for the same spot.
Depay is a left winger. Garnacho, Sancho, Rashford already playing there. Man Utd doesn't need a fourth player for the left wing. Forget Depay.

You should hear what they say about Wout,
They say he'll never never never ever score two,
Whoa-oh, it doesn't matter what they say,
I know I'm gonna cheer him all the way,
What can I do, when it's true,
No Vince, no Felix, no Memphis,
'cause Wouty it's you.

Besiktas being right d**ks with this deal. Can't blame them, seeing as they would never have seen this chance to make a quick buck coming. Hearing how desperate Wout is for the deal, he surely can't play for them anymore. He's only a loan player, so can they please sort out a deal quickly and stop acting all big?

They have the option of buying him. And considering how well he has played for them they would have exercised that option of £10mill.
What would you do if you are them? They now have to get a similar replacement but at what price?
