Wout Weghorst

Wouldn't mind that. Him or Thuram. Both look like exactly what we need and they'd be very cheap. I just hope they are not long-term plans, of course.

so bonkers it just might work.

realistically though this feels like a plant to force the real target out of their hole

Is he actually that much better? He is 25, so if we sign him, we are going to commit to probably a 4 year deal minimum. It's not like he lit up the world cup with France either. He was decent, but not to the extent that it looked like he would make anything other than a good backup for us long term.
Is World Cup finalist and runner up Marcus Thuram - linked with Manchester United and Chelsea - better than Wout Weghorst of Burnley and Besiktas? Yes, I think he is. He is no worse than Martial and Sancho at the moment. He is available on the cheap and his resale value is at least 3-4x what he would cost in January.

I wouldn't be against this at all.

I always thought he was a good striker but unfortunately didn't work out that way when he got to Burnley.

I think he could work.

This would make a lot of sense on a short term loan.

We don't have a single forward who has the ability to provide a box presence, aswell as having the ability to hold up the ball. And I believe having a forward who provides box presence and good hold up ability, would make a difference because it would make us unpredictable.

Why can't we just sign Mbappe or Haaland on loan?

I reckon if we tried hard enough, we may be able to convince Burnley to loan us Jay Rodriguez too.

Now we’re talking. I actually wanted us to sign him before we binned off Ronaldo.

Him and Felix and we’re motoring.

He even has 15 games and 7 goals with us according to wiki

Would be brilliant signing. Better than Felix or Aboubakar. A completely different option (that's why better than Felix not talent wise)

Okay. Although I'm not the biggest supporter of this, at least there's a logic to it backed up by data.

We got a pressing coach so we need a pressing striker.

At least its a round peg for a round hole.

Who did you expect and be realistic

I think you know the answer to that as you’ve been quoting my posts on that players particular thread today.

If Weghorst is brought in as an addition to that player, then that’s good enough and sets us up quite nicely till at least the end of the season.

It's a stop gap. Bit underwhelming but he is a player that can play target man and isn't a bad finisher. It's about the right type of player not the best player. If Ten Hag thinks he can do the business who are we to argue?

He might very well be the hardest working striker in the world. He isnt very talented for a pro football player but he is never going to stop running and trying to improve himself.

He wouldnt be a horrible option to have in the squad….

Heavily disliked the man for his shithousery against Argentina.

But if it’s a short team deal, he ticks most boxes.
He’s a beta-Haaland.

He's a donkey but we need bodies, short term loan will do I guess.

I wouldn’t mind it tbh as a stop gap. He is big, awkward, can hold the ball up and will score goals given the right service.

Can we afford both?
We seem to be strongly linked to Felix plus any one of the centre forwards mentioned in the past few days. I reckon we’re after both hence why we’re looking for freebies: any cash we’ve got is going on Felix’s loan fee.

Is World Cup finalist and runner up Marcus Thuram - linked with Manchester United and Chelsea - better than Wout Weghorst of Burnley and Besiktas? Yes, I think he is. Right because Marcus Thuram is the main reason France made the World Cup Final.

Why is him getting linked with us seen as a positive, but not Weghorst supposedly being linked seen as a positive? You can't have it both ways.

Signing long term players because they are "no worse than so and so" is not a sustainable strategy, and counter to everything ten Hag has said since he joined. He wants to sign the right player, not just anyone. If the right player is not available and we are absolutely desperate for a back up option, then a short term cheap option is the way to go, not someone who will want a long term contract.

If you truly think Thuram is our long term answer up top, then fine, I don't see that. But if he is just better than what we have, that is not a good reason to sign him permanently.

I like him! An obvious threat in the air and his play in the ground is seriously under rated too
