Depends if they've sold up and gone or not. If not I can see us buying Weghorst in full.
Our players will still just lump it to him. It is not the best approach, as we wanted to move away from that type of football.
I’ve been saying for a while now we need a no9 with certain skills & qualities, in particularly for home matches when the opposition sits back more or when we need to force something in a match. We don’t need another Gakpo or Thuram type player. We could do with a Arnoutovic/Giroud/CalvertLewin type no9. That would improve us significantly because it would make the team more effective particularly in the style ten Hag wants to play. Weghorst fits that bill brilliantly.

He will compliment the likes of Rashford, Antony, Bruno, Eriksen, etc. That’s what good teams are all about.
Don’t think you need to worry about that. When we had Fellaini and Moyes, we did that a lot because Moyes wanted that alot. When Van Gaal was here, we hardly did it at all. Under Mourinho, we did it again because of Mourinho, not because of Fellaini. But Fella was useful for us at those times, because he could execute a part of the managers plan well.
When Ten Hag has a Weghorst/Haller/Jordan/Stapleton, he will use him in his way, and so will his team. Ajax with Haller was no ‘lump it to Seb’-team at all, neither will United be. But it is always useful to have different tools in the toolbox, not 22 monkey wrenches.
Fellaini was only an option to stick up front and lump balls up to and sometimes he would even nick one. You're making it sound like he was a CF for us for a season or two.
Also we've tried that exact tactic this season with Maguire.

A better footballer than Weghorst, but not a Centre Forward. Why should ETH have players foisted on him that don’t fit?
More of a proper Centre Forward, but misses lots of chances. Weghorst’s conversion rate is better, though not at Burnley.
Maybe EtH regards his performances at AZ and Wolfsburg (and Beşiktaş) more representative of his ability than those at Dyche’s Burnley?
If Ronaldo had made it clear that he wanted to leave the moment it was certain that we weren’t making Top Four we wouldn’t be having this current crisis.
My expectations were as low as thinking we would get nobody. I still think we will get nobody so a striker on loan who won't be a starter but a sub option until the summer is a bonus
People always say "bring the fast player to play against tired legs to cause havoc" but it almost never happened. Maybe because average professional footballers train to play for 90 minutes dont die after 70 mins.

I don’t think Ten Hag will use him for long ball… that isn’t Ten Hags style of play. He’ll use him to hold up the ball and link up with others. Will also be useful for us on set pieces which we’ve started scoring more of since we have Eriksen who can whip in a ball. Aslong as he’s one of them strikers that tries to get on the end of everything then he’ll be useful. We don’t have a striker that runs in the penalty box and sniffs out chances.
Funnily enough, bring in a big forward in the final minutes and you'll see teams adapting and bringing on a tall CB to shore up the defence. We most certainly do.

Firstly he's not that good, he would be coming in as an option off the bench (people in here going in depth about his uses tactically are going into too much detail, his main use is as a body to get us through the season and he won't start many, if any, games), but secondly Burnley got relegated so he would have wanted out and went to Besiktas who have had an option to make the deal permanent. We're looking for a low-cost loan, funnily enough clubs don't offer genuinely good players out on loan for cheap.
Agreed with everything. People need to be realistic and understand we‘re broke. Get something decent now is the best we can do. And we rather spend big in the summer
What do you expect? It’s a loan signing. We spent 200m in the summer, we are now broke and the club is for sale. Honestly what were youu expecting? That we go drop 50-100m on someone?

If he's given a blank cheque in the summer and this is the first signing he makes, by all means, but it's obvious he's operating under constraints here.
To be fair to the guy he is a Dutch international and his record aside from Burley is decent. 45 in 86 games for AZ, 70 in 144 for Wolfsburg and 9 in 18 in Turkey so pretty consistently 1 in 2 which is great for someone of that size?
To be able to bring someone like this for next to nothing in our situation actually smacks of quite shrewd business!

Yeah I consider Haller a big lump. Not that he’s a bad player. It’s clear he played an effective role for ETH last year, but that’s not the kind of player I’d want as a #9 personally. Weghorst doesn’t bother me much as a short-term stop gap, but I wouldn’t be keen on us splashing out a lot on that style of striker once we’ve got some cash.
He's plan B option that's good to have, especially when we're chasing a goal or two.
ETH isn't going to sign a backup player and change whole system around him.

I agree, I think it's a fine pick-up given the circumstances. My point was more at people who seemed disappointed with this, we're looking for a low-cost loan so we weren't going to get anyone that good but he's better than a lot of other names thrown around. This guy can actually play a few minutes (especially in games that are over or where we want to go more direct late on) to protect Martial somewhat and maybe can contribute a goal or two, that would be useful for the rest of the season.
Strangely coming round to this signing. We know EtH likes tall centre forwards after Haller and Arnautovic, so he has enough credit in the bank for me to trust his decision on this and the over all plan. It's obviously a stop gap and he can easily score some crucial goals for us from set pieces when we need them most.
Players get tired no matter how fit they are, particularly the forwards lose some of their explosiveness. It’s why games tend to open up in the last quarter.
