Cons:
-I hate the vibes. Roberts from Wales/Burnley screaming at him to ask why he didn't do that for Burnley (after he played well for the Dutch against them) is something you should see fairly often at international level but you never do, which makes me think he hated Weghorst, so maybe he crossed the line professionally there. He's also an anti-vaxxer and weirdly often rumoured to be a racist. My guess is he doesn't do anything too embarassing apart from some fun/cringey shithousing in the 4 months he's with us, but when he inevitably makes a horrible statement or does something bad in the future we're embarassed to have him as a club cult hero a la Fellaini if he does contribute to winning something this year.
-No pace, not great dropping deep with his feet and playing long balls doesn't seem to make sense with our style of play, though Ajax did well with Haller so this one is just Ten Hag understanding his system better than I do.
-Might clog the space up that Rashford wants to exploit centrally. Kind of think he's a better fit with Garnacho and Antony staying proper wide.
Pros:
-Incredibly likely that Ten Hag wants him as opposed to the club wanting him, and those signings have worked out.
-Different profile to Martial, and he has struggled to get into games against deep lines. Memphis or Thuram are more similar to Martial, so this gives us an alternative type, as would Moussa Dembele, though Weghorst is even more different.
-Being slow seems like less of a big deal with Rashford looking like a middle-class Cristiano and Antony starting to make more runs in behind.
-Same age as Aboubakar, but unlike him he's still probably in his prime I think, since he's a slower giant target man anyways and they peak late.
-Has had one bad season in like his last 8 and that was with a horrific Burnley side with no RW, #10 or DM. Started scoring for the Dutch at an okay rate the last 2 years even.
-Should be hungry, he's never played for a team this big and he never will again, but doing well here might bring a trophy and if he does well he'll get a decent move to like a Lille, Sevilla or Roma at worst, I bet.
Other:
-Putting off the decision to invest in a proper striker may be a club mandate, or just indicate a low budget in general for the summer that Ten Hag is unwilling to dip into, which makes sense since we're more likely to win a trophy, be in a proper title scrap or make a CL semi-final next year than this one (though we've had decent injury luck this year all in all), so nice to see Ten Hag keeping his eyes on the mid-term prize (we're still in the rebuilding stage, it's just going quite well and we're a rich team so rebuilding can happen on the fly), though end of the day there's still a decent chance when shopping at the loans level that Rashford up top and Garnacho or Sancho out left is the better idea, though if that's the case Ten Hag can just use Weghorst the way he does Maguire but in reverse (come on with 10 minutes to go and win headers, though when we're down or tied, not up, since he's a 9 and Maguire is a CB).
