I feel like there's absolutely no plan other than sticking with Ole. No succession planning and their plan was simply to wait it out and hope he didn't lose against Spurs and Atalanta. The only way they axe Ole is a big defeat against City. Don't think he could make it through big losses to both our main rivals. Anything else and he's here to stay. It's an ego thing. Say what you want about Levy, but he's totally fine to axe a manager he hired 4 months ago to get the better man. Ed is not. He's unwilling to take the blow to his ego that axing Ole would do. So, he won't fire him. And apparently the Glazers have no qualms with Ole playing a formation that totally ignores their expensive 72m summer signing that he chased for 2 years. We are like no other business in the world. No accountability, no striving for excellence. Ole may as well have won the prize to manage, in fact I think I'd feel much better if he had. Because then there would at least be some method to this unbelievable madness.

Yeah there is no succession planning I am absolutely certain of it so just got to grit our teeth until a new person comes in but think that could be a long time certainly in the eyes of our board

This reminds me of LOST. Everyone was convinced the writers had all these plans. But probably they were all reading the fan theories, thinking ooh that would be good. That was also only supposed to be 3 seasons. And Lost perfectly describes the complete shit show of our board right now. Clueless.
 
Spurs are 2 points behind us, not really playing that much worse than us, and even in the Carabao cup QF. They recognise change is needed otherwise they will continue on a Downwards trajectory, and so act on bringing in a proven winner. Fair play to them.

I don't think Conte is the right man for the job. 54% of the people on this poll don't and neither do to the club clearly.

That's such a bizarrely wrong take. Because if there's a top manager that knows how to win with average (relatively speaking) players, it is Conte. Actually, that's probably his signature feature.
We're talking about a guy who won the Premier League with 90+ points, in his first season, employing Victor Moses and Marcus Alonso as wing backs, while also starting Tim Cahill, Willian, Zouma, or old man Pedro.
I'm not even going to speak of his Italy beating Spain and delivering a strong tournament at the Euros with players like Pelle, Eder, Parolo or Giaccherini starting..
And least of all will I mention his scudetto win with the entirety of Man United's famous 'deadwood'.

Pundits saying United is earning more as a news/stories/drama generator than as a cold-hearted, winning football machine may have a point, actually… and who are us oppos to say this is not the way forward? Let’s see them morph into United Globetrotters and be it.
 
My Chelsea friends are all repeating different versions of 'bullet dodged' to me today in regards to Conte potentially going to Spurs rather than United.

The thought of him at United seems to have worried most of them which is why they're quite happy that he's going to North London instead.

All of them are the biggest Ole fans mind you as are all my mates who are Liverpool and Arsenal fans...

This is a huge exaggeration. Conte inherited the core of a team that won the PL two seasons previously and added the best CM in the league plus a talented if error prone ball playing CB in David Luiz (warts and all he was excellent for them that year). Willian was a class player in his prime, Pedro was 29 that season, Zouma hardly played that year, and Gary Cahill was a solid CB in his day.

He had pedestrian wingbacks, just like at Juventus, but otherwise he had really top class players throughout most of the team. He also played without European football and had a remarkable injury record. Chelsea basically only played 13 guys for meaningful minutes all season.

Conte also had the fortune to do it in a year when Pep had just arrived, Klopp was in the early stages of his project, and the only real competition for the title was Spurs.

I rate Conte highly but he isn't a miracle worker. Spurs has by far the worst roster of talent he has worked with at club level since before his Juventus days.

You can’t really rest your case on Molde seeing as they won two league titles and the Norwegian cup under Ole.
 
I don't think we want him anyway. And I think he probably got wind of that, which is why he's all gucci with throwing his hat in the ring for Tottenham now.
 
For me. If Spurs weren’t located in London. Conte would definitely say no to it.

This Spurs squad is hard to understand. They were leading the table for some rounds last season. So they are maybe capable of top 4 this season. There are still qualities there. And I think and believe Spurs have players to suit Conte system too.

So let i analyze and put a potential line up. I think I would drop the wingers and go for a 3412 formation:

Emerson/Tanganga - Sanchez - Dier +

Doherty/Tanganga - Winks/Skipp - Høibjerg - Reguilon/Davies/Ashley Young +

Lo Celso/Alli/Moura +

Kane - Son/Moura


So definitely this squad is good enough for top 4. Adding with the guts, drive, energy, motivation, always give your best, hard working and last of all winning mentality (always try to reach the ball first).
With Conte . Top 4 is definitely a realistic target for Spurs this season.
And important. If a new manager can wake up Harry Winks to reach his best again. Winks will be key for a deep laying ball control playmaker from central midfield. With Lo Celso or Moura for a further up the pitch playmaker.

And Conte and Spurs this season against top teams. Probably will become a counter attack team. And the do have pacey and skillful attacking players upfront in Moura and Son. So personally I think theirs attack is not so worst. Spurs are missing Eriksen type of player. A player that deliver consistent good ball and crosser to Kane. And like United. A super creative cm player. To open up tight defend teams. That’s the problem with Spurs. They lack consistent top creative from the middle of the park. To help theirs attacking players.

Ashley Young might can pack his bag and move to London. If Conte takes the Spurs job. It’s a big chance Young will end up as Spurs. As left full back. To deliver consistent good crosser to Kane and theirs attackers. Young is 36 and have always been a easy on the toes players. So to strengthen the Spurs squad depth and give Conte more option to choose from. When first a manager like some specific player. He will might go for him again. Young has always take care of his body and health. So be ready boy. You might get a call.

In the end. I am all for more exciting. Spicy up the league more. With more flavor. So if Conte not to United. I’m bored of City and Liverpool dominance. Easily prefer Chelsea or Spurs to win the league, rather than City or Pool.

Not talking about Conte. Talking about the idea the board have been talking to anyone and have an idea who to replace Ole with. Basically the idea of any kind of succession planning whatsoever. Would I have minded Conte coming in? No. Do I think he’s perfect for us? Obviously not. I’d much rather find someone who plays more progressive and exciting football like Ten Hag. But the idea of replacing Ole with a manager that can actually coach a proper system and would actually improve our players is pretty damn exciting. And Conte would most certainly have done that. Plus it’s kinda galling seeing Spurs sack their manger after 3 months when he has only 2 points less than ours, having played far tougher games, whereas ours has had 3 years, spent half a billion, and just got absolutely mauled against our greatest rivals but remains in a job. A reminder of just how low our standards are.

Gary Cahill, of course, sorry. I didn't say he's a miracle worker, I'm just saying he's more than able to work with players, even arguably rather mediocre ones, that are at his disposal to form a winning team. AKA the opposite of needing top transfers to win as the poster I quoted claimed.
That much is completely undisputable.

What else do you expect from the accountants running the club ? I won't be surprised if the tactical nous of the board is at par with Ole's.

The key is to lower our expectations, mine is top 6 finish and no cup runs. This way hate and anger is kept at bay.

That's the big thing for me. Even in Sport, heads should roll if you pissed away that much money down the drain. And yet the owners seem content to just receive the dividends and let the status quo continue.

1-2 failed appointments, you can call it unlucky. But consistently getting it wrong for a decade without changing anything about the management is unbelievable.
 
I'm not fussed that Conte's gone to Spurs, just more aghast at the fact Ole is still our manager, all the while Spurs have quickly sacked their underperforming manager and hired his replacement.

Yup and to have a manager learning on the job, the main coaches learning on the job, the technical director, the CEO, the chief negotiator and more, all learning on the job simultaneously, is not just stupid, it's borderline criminal and negligent. And all we get is spin, spin, spin.
 
What are the odds that we chase him in 2 years when his contract is about to expire and we are still inconsistent?

I personally don't think Tuchel failed at PSG. Got them to CL final (they didn't achieve that before so a success in a way) and got through group stages next season, then got sacked obviously. On Mourinho: even after he got sacked at Chelsea, he was still viewed as an elite manager when he came to us in 2016, and it was going fine in 2016 and 2017, but then in 2018 Sevilla exit hurt his reputation badly (though I think his decline in Champions League started before United) and 5 months later it got bad in the league as well.

I don't rate Tuchel as high as Pep and Klopp of course but it's been a success so far at Chelsea. Won Champions League, currently 1st in PL and, as early as it is, they seem to be contenders for title. We'd kill for that, haven't had either for these last 8-9 years.
