Earlier in the season, I was very much in the Ole Out camp but you have to say he deserves a run given the progress we have displayed.

We will struggle to break through the glass ceiling if he isn’t given transfer market backing though. We have just finished a 61 game season and the new campaign commences in less than a month. The squad is nowhere near deep enough.

We have a fit, united and talented (albeit thin) squad of players, there’s no negativity within the club, kudos to Ole for the job he has done.

Perhaps it would be best if this thread were locked as it doesn’t really make sense to be debating his future tbf.

Regardless of what we all think, If Ole gets backed in this transfer window, the expectations and pressure from the within the club will obviously increase, another season like this one and he'll be gone.

If you take off the last 4 games of this season to compare to the Moyes season which Giggs was in charge for the last 4 ganes we had 1 less points under Moyes at the point he was sacked compared to Ole this season,. Moyes also had a league cup Semi and Champions League quarter Final.
I don't think we should necessarily sack Ole but he has been very lucky to get 3rd on such a low points total.

Difference is Moyes inherited a title winning team with established internationals and a great back room team.

Ole on the other hand was and is clearing out Moyes, LVG, JM and Woodwards mess.

Sign Sancho and Badiashile, and maybe a quality fullback this summer. If signings don't significantly improve the squad after another season, then consider the sack.

We would still struggle to make top 4 and play exactly as we played tonight. This is the best we will get. We’ve peaked.

No they won’t.

Get a grip you twats.

3rd place and 3 semi finals in his first full season.

  • No Pogba for 80% of the season.
  • Didn't get Bruno in a Utd shirt until February.
  • Serious injury to Rashford, which he doesn't seem to have fully recovered from yet.
  • Greenwood didn't establish himself as a starter until 3/4 of the way into the season.
  • De Gea out of form, it looks like Henderson is coming back to share responsibility.

If United can deliver on his wishes and get 3 or 4 signings in, this team is capable of being our most exciting and talented in almost a decade. Half of you would hang the accused before the fecking trial.

My concern that Ole and the Utd board are not a good match, he’ll need to buy super strong team to compete due to the lack of game management.

love the harmony, love the clearing out of deadwood and the freedom given to players but I don’t see any real tactics or attack patterns. It’s more just get the best 11 out there and we’ll see what happens

We’ll be back to square one next season if reinforcements aren’t brought in, no way will the top 4 points be so low again

Oh yes, like every other team in Europe with a semi decent squad is winning CL and league titles?

Most top teams have a super squad. To win titles you need a super squad.

Between the start of February 2019 and the start for February 2020, I saw no real signs of progress. Results in that period were largely abysmal and included our worst start to a season for 30 years.

However, we have all seen the difference that Fernandes has made to the side and with the quartet of Matic, Pogba, Fernandes and Martial fielded together, we have been much, much better.

I do believe that, despite all his good work lifting the post-Mourinho gloom, Solskjaer is out of his depth as United manager. I don't think that the team is ever likely to be more than the sum of its parts while he is in charge, and a title challenge under him, seems unlikely. But that doesn't mean we can't improve, if we can get some better players into the side.

Im sure there are better managers out there and I was convinced Ole was out of his depth but he’s certainly not shying away from the challenge here and I think he’s growing into the role quite nicely now.

2019/2020
- Added useful and motivated players to improve our squad.
- Brought some semblance of balance and unity to our team.
- Cleared our deadwood, useless high earners and mercenaries.
- Brought back a more attacking football style
- Seems to have finally turned Martial into a proper forward
- 3rd in the prem
- Semis FA cup, league cup and Europa league
- CL football for next season
- Oh ... and brought in Bruno. Finally, a player with some fire in his belly.

From where we left off after Jose, I think Ole has done a fecking cracking job. Whether he will win us anything or whether he will be with us long term, he absolutely has earned another crack at it all next season.

We can improve our quality but like you said the output will be the same. I don’t see us being a team that will produce anything above last. Even with Sancho and say Grealish coming off the bench. We will continue to be semi final bottlers.

I'm not fully convinced either way, that he should be sacked or that he will win us titles. For now he has done decent-good job, we need to show progress next season, there shouldn't be any excuses. Also would love if we show some flexibility in the transfer market as he doesn't rate his subs, which means we need good number of signings.

He really should trust his squad and make good use of it, next season will be a hell with tight schedule, we should make use of complete squad.

That's just foolish, on another day we score 3/4 goals.

He hasn’t even done better than Jose. That pretty much says it all. All his done is make us like the team and getting ready to watch us. That’s not hard I was convinced Micheal Carrick could replace Jose’s dross at one point it got that bad. But this by no means is a better performing team than what Jose built before the demise.

If Jose had stayed, do you think we would look better now? Do you think our squad would look better? Our football been better? Our league position look better?

Ole has changed the look of us completely. We’re at least capable of producing decent football now. Night and day between Jose’s Utd and Oles Utd.

Our defence improved after Bruno arrived (from 1.2 goals per game conceded to 0.5 goals per game) so Im not sure that has all that much to do with it. Looking at those other seasons, two of those three we were also very defensive, LVGs last season and Mourinho's first. We scored 12 fewer goals in those seasons. The only season we got the balance better was Mourinho's second season, scoring 2 more and conceding 8 fewer.

Anyway, I'm still not sure how any of this would justify saying that Maguire and AWB were a "huge mistake". That would imply that, at the very least, they'd had little or no impact.

I think that the term huge mistake is pushing it a bit too far. Nevertheless we spent 130m on 2 defenders that while being the best defenders we've got are hardly WC. These two deals do not make sense considering when you see the bigger picture ie Lindelof who is a slow CB (Maguire is also slow) and Shaw (whose also a defensive FB).

In my opinion we're better off keeping Smalling, sell as many defenders as we can (apart from Maguire, AWB and Williams) and add at least a CB and at least a LB (2 if we sell Shaw). Williams can switch as cover/competition for AWB, Maguire will finally play with a rapid CB at his side and we finally fill the void on the left.

Who wanted Jose to bloody stay. That’s not the point. The point is from his sacking to the end of that season Michael Carrick could have come in and done a good job. The question is where are we going from here. We need a sign of title winning progressed. Not a stretched out intermin period. Which is what we are currently in.

Im not stating that anyone wanted Jose to stay, just that Ole has done a feck load of ‘corrective surgery’ on our squad, got us CL football and decent cup runs in all cups. The fact is, he’s done a cracking job. Ultimately now he will be expected to improve on that.

I think the frightening thing is. Maguire is only better than Lindelof because of the price tag. He hasn’t out performed him and he’s not better on the ball. He’s just not a p$$% like Lindelof. If a pacy CB who could head was brought in. I wouldn’t be too bothered if it was Maguire that got the chop.

He did. But not we have to grow a pair and decide what’s best to go forward. Not do what we also do and wait and hope someone doesn’t fail.

But there was improvement, there was tactics, we could see attacking patterns, pressing. We are still hugely dependent on individual player skill to pull us through, our passing is still average, pressing is not that good, we are not good under pressure also.

And what did you see yesterday ? This wasn't a mediocre team in the Premier League we played against, it was a team that right now in terms of form - is the best team in Spain. And we created enough chances to score 4-5 goals - we didn't and that of course wasn't good enough, and we made 2 horrible mistakes defensively - and that is not good enough - but we should have won. 4 times out of 5 - we win this game.

Well - it was Mainoldo - what did you expect ?

Why can't all fans just back the team?

Ole is not getting the sack, we are not winning the league next season.

Has he improved the squad? yes
Has he improved as a manager? yes
Are we playing better than under Jose? Yes, just look at both Sevilla games, end of Jose's run and yesterday.

I think it would be very unusual to get rid of a manger while they have shown they are improving the team.

It will ultimately go one of two ways. Ole either keeps improving is and we steamroller our way back to the top or he stop improving us and we part ways. We’ll see I guess but he should stay until that happens.

We have had a season of massive progress overall. What makes you feel as though we are in a prolonged interim period?

This thread has turned into @Mainoldo vs. the caf. The same arguments recycled in an endless loop.

"But he isn't good enough. Simple as that."
"But he's improved us a lot and we're exciting to watch again."
"How has he improved us? Anyone could've done the same job Ole has."
"But look at what he inherited from José? Everything was worse with José."
"But José got us a 2nd place and won the europa."

Rinse, repeat.

Christ. How can you count the first season? He took over a team completely shot of confidence, that already had no chance of getting 50% of available cups (75% if you include the CL, as it was impossible with that squad).

I’m all up for a debate, but what’s the point if you’re using those kind of examples? When Klopp took over Liverpool he finished 8th and lost in a cup final. Then 4th the next season. Did Liverpool sack him?
From day one you could see improvement and change in tactics that took him to the EL final. The year after you could see obvious style of play that he used in BVB by trying to play fast aggressive football with press high at the pitch despite the failings sometimes due to lack of quality. In his only second full season he took his team to the UCL final with attractive football. I have big doubts about Ole making any UCL final in the next 3 years tbh. Wont even discuss his quality in finding non expensive players to turn them into world beaters.

Things are promising for the future. The team shows progress and a form of football identity.

You recently won the Europa League and have had a lot of opportunities to make it yesterday.

You have been unlucky yesterday but last year you were lucky against Paris Saint-Germain.

This is football
PSG were lucky to play with 11 men the first game.

Ed should back him up this summer window (new CB + MF + Sancho) or sack him and sign Poch.

Why are people so worked up? I thought this was a pointless competition or does that analogy apply only while belittling what Jose did. Anyway we are already in the CL so people need to chill and hope for improvements next term.

I don’t think Liverpool have that strong of a squad, they have a strong 11 but mostly it’s Klopp getting the most out of his players

I think it’s that we are papering over the cracks, the league campaign wasn’t strong given the competition

A strong 11 which is why they didnt get further in the CL, FA cup and league cup.

Klopp is getting the most out his players ? yes. He is a top top coach but they have

WC GK
WC CB
WC RB
WC CDM
WC LW/RW

You can give credit to Klopp on how he has got them playing but he too had to spend money to get his team how he wants it.

We have a weak squad and went far in all comps. shows that the manager wants to try and win trophies.

Yeah I agree, an identity of play is something we’re struggling with, although it is a massive improvement on what we were playing when he took over.

Also, Liverpool beat Porto, City, Roma in the knockout stages. Obviously City would be difficult, but the other two teams are very easy for the knockout stages of the Champions League. I’d snap your hand off for those fixtures next season.
