I thought that even with his lack of experience and tactical nous maybe Ole will improve but put simply we will not progress from a 4th/5th placed team under his management. Just relying on individual players to create and score goals rather then coaching them creative football will lead to days today when that 'tactics fmdoesnt come off.

It's reactionary to base it off a few games. You have to look at the season as a whole. We have had good and bad stretches. Currently we are in a bad one.
There's no question that Ole has improved the squad. But I don't think he has maximized the squad. I think we challenge if we get an experienced manager with a system + a couple additions. If Ole remains, we'll probably be good for top 4 next season and maybe an FA or Carabao cup. But I don't think he's a good enough manager to get a 120 % out of a squad like Klopp did. If Klopp was managing UTD next season, we'd be challenging.
The question then is, can Poch be that guy ? He has an offensive system but we don't know if he's a top level manager. But I'd take the risk of Poch regardless if we make top 4 or not. I wouldn't fault Woodward if he kept Ole if he made the top 4. I just think we are 3 - 4 signings away and with the right manager we can challenge. We just need to take the risk with a better manager and spend this summer

He ballsed up today with the team. Before the game the talk was about whether we play our best team or rest them and lose. Somehow we did both.
That said, he can’t legislate for what happens when the players step over that white line. We lost to two goalkeeping howlers and an own goal.

If he secures top 4 and ideally takes us to the final of the EL, I'd be inclined to give him another season. If he fails to at least secure top 4 then he should go.

Smalling is a bigger goal threat and better defender than our current best defender which is really problematic.
Also, Smalling is only MARGINALLY worse on the ball than our current defenders. At least he didn't give the ball away.

Atleast I’ve got this thread to cheer me up after being disappointed we’re out of the no fan FA Cup* the season with starred trophies.
It’s great we can downplay Liverpool’s league win because there’s no fans and it’s a fecked up season but then all meltdown when we miss out on winning a cup. Top four is priority this year just setup a better season for us next year.

These are extraordinary circumstances for managers and players with the amount and intensity of games, with everyone being vital. ok, we lost but we’ve been on a great run, 19 games unbeaten? so let’s get on with it and hopefully continue doing what we’ve been doing in the league

We have just lost an FA Cup semi after a 19 match unbeaten run. This was our third game in a week, where we have played home and away, against an opponent who had 48 hours more rest than we did and played a home game against a relegated team, and rested some of their starters from that game too. We made changes as we have had to rest players desperately, and in this game it was terrible individual errors that cost us. At half time, we had had more attempts on goal and off goal according to Sky. Another huge error costs us immediately after half time. Additionally, we were kicked off the park and had little protection from a poor referring performance.
Aye it was a bad day at the office, but fecking hell there were more problems today from individual mistakes tahn anything else. Some of you lot seriously need to get off Ole's back, some of you are just waiting for an excuse to be in this thread and having a go at him.

It’s all part of the process, OGS has been very good at getting rid of crap like Valencia, Young, Fellaini, Sanchez, Rojo and Lukuku.

If that's the primary reason then does the way we manage the squad's fitness and freshness levels leave a lot to be desired? It's quite concerning that the only times we really played like an elite team was when we were completely fresh. A few games in and the performance levels dropped terribly.
I see a worrying inability to handle teams that press us half-competently. Inclined to think it's at least partially a system/training issue and not just fatigue.
