Why hasn’t Ole been sacked?
If you look at recent United history, you will see a great deal of criticism and pressure has been put on managers and players by United ex-players such as Scholes, Gary Neville, Ferdinand and Giggs. Some of that criticism is still directed at Pogba and Martial. My belief is that some of these ex-players are all working behind the scenes in support of Ole. I don’t think Ole would have had the wherewithal to be able to move our transfer policy all by himself, but if Ole, supported by a group of ex-players met with Ed Woodward at the end of last season, Ed had to listen to them.
Now, all Woodward has to do is wait and see how far this Brexit FC policies will carry us. It’s a low cost transfer policy, and he has the advantage of having the support of the ex-players so they will continue with this at least to the end of the season. If the Brexit FC policy works, Woodward wins, as he will then have a low-cost transfer policy and the rebuild that has been promised since SAF left. And if the Brexit FC policy doesn’t work, Woodward wins because he will then be able to recruit a high caliber coach and a few big name players to get the higher marketing value he wants, but he will then have some leverage over some ex-players crying “foul” and overtly critizising any other modern football managers and star players he may get in the future. Ed would be happy either way, and as long as we compete for top 4. There’s no reason to fire Ole now.
