Would you rather sign Shaw for £30m or...

This is why you would never be the top dog at anything. The elite take risks, Luke Shaw could go on to be the best in the world, those you've named won't.

Sure, it may fail, it may be a slow start, but there's a reason we brought in David De Gea and not Craig Gordon, to be the best you need to take risks.
In YOUR opinion, Shaw could be the best in the world. In YOUR opinion, Rodriguez and Aurier have no chance to become the best in the world. Despite the fact that Rodriguez is already one of best LBs in the world.
You pick and choose your examples. You cherry pick a good young player and ignore all the average young players. There are a lot more average young players than good. You say de Gea I say Zaha.

Shaw, however he is only a prospect and not the finished article. If it doesnt work for him at Utd out it could be another duff season plus another 15m hit like Fellaini

Yeah, we really got burnt doing that when we bought Ronaldo. Or Rooney. Or Arsenal bought Walcott. Or Tottenham bought Bale.
Why don't you make a list of all the young players where the gamble didn't pay off. Its a crap argument to just select some random players who happen to have gone on to be good players and ignore all the players who didn't.

If it is such a dictatorship regarding Shaw, why are we going after so many old players? Why Kroos? Why Fabregas? Why Vidal? Why Schweinsteiger? Why F'ing Miranda? Why not sign 18 and 19 year old quality prospects for every position? Why not just promote our own youth players instead of spending £30 million on a Southampton young player. Southampton gave Shaw his chance, why don't we do the same?

I want Rodriguez for the same reason people want any of these older players that we are linked with. Rodriguez is an improvement over Evra. Shaw is a potential improvement over Evra. Buy Rodriguez to strengthen the LB. Then one of our own youth players can replace Evra as back up LB in couple seasons.

But, Shaw is not just potential right now. He is already a really good player. He was one of the three best LBs in the PL this season. He is already an improvement over Evra.

I got another option: Get both Shaw and Blind but only if he'll prove himself in other Holland matches. If he'll show consistency in his game then we can sell Buttner and accommodate two because we all know Evra got maximum one maybe two years here at best.

I'm not sure if I really want Shaw anymore. The price would be ridiculous all things considered, along with the wages reportedly being around 100k . Evra is still a very good fullback, and won't have european football to tire him out like before. Blind for probably around 10m would be an excellent option as he is better then what we have in midfield but also way better then Buttner, so he'd get plenty of games in either position. Also LvG knows him well.

What would be the point in spending so much on a left back and having an excellent back up like Evra there, who is still good enough to be starting most games, and starts for French national team? Especially when we'll only have the premier league to worry about.

Based on what we saw from Evra last season I do not think he is good enough to start most games.

He was decent on the whole last season, by far the best in our defence. It's hard to look good as a fullback when the rest of the defence and team is a shambles. He can't go up and down the pitch endlessly like before but LvG usually doesn't have his fullbacks do that constantly, they're much more reserved. That's why I'm saying we won't need another one. Evra usually struggles once he starts being overused which always happened but won't this season as we won't have champions league football as well as premier league to worry about.

Better to have a small squad of higher quality players, in general. SAF was a master of getting the best out of good players, but that's not usual, obviously.

Haven't seen enough of any of them to have a strong opinion, but in general I'd be happy to turn 3 'promising youngsters' into one top class player.

If van Gaal was to play 3-5-2 with us, the choice of WB is very important. You want a player who is strong at BOTH ends.

It's Shaw for me. Not only is he talented, he is English too. I'd like to see us continue the tradition of signing the best English players to strengthen our team. But I will support any decision LvG makes.

shaw, potentially could end up being a world class player, english and homegrown, playing for more than 10 years for the club, although the price is a bit too much now imo, but could well end up a bargain in 15 years time.

would not mind rodriguez though.
