Wot, no transfers?

I don't see the board strategy to be honest, do they have one? the team needed upgrades in specific areas. Very disappointed.

I think our strategy looks like....save the cash for Zidane next summer.

Maybe because godin was plan B and has release clause so deal can be done in few hours( presuming that terms with players are done via his agent days ago)

Edit: he has 20 mil clause. Contract expires next year. Bargain

Who says its 20 mil? Surely not. He'd have been snapped up by now.

Jesus, people actually listening to Sky Sport....is this truly the darkest timeline?

They know absolutely NOTHING!! :lol::lol:

I’d be very suprised if it does.

We’re looking rather desperate being linked to these players with 6hrs to go who we haven’t been linked to all summer!

Yup, is there even time to fly a player in and get a medical done?

Is it desperate if Jose was telling the truth? It seriously looks like Woodward has stopped and Jose is now just focusing on the game.

If jose as I’m sure he did, give Ed a list at the start of the season I cant imagine Godin being on it.

Jose has literally just said, he cant see anyone else coming in at the late stage. It could be done, but unlikely.

Just make a signing!! Getting so close to the window closing i can't believe we have made no significant transfers. Jose has been honest with the fact Ed more or less isn't buying anyone jose wants.

Let’s not kid ourselves. No signing coming. We will have to do with what we have.

Eric Bailey when fit is brilliant. Lindelof, hopefully, will be better with a whole season behind him in the Prem.

Rashford will kick on up top, hopefully. Sanchez looks sharp as a knife and maybe he comes together with the team.

Maybe Pogba is twice the player with Fred behind him. Maybe Pereira will break through and have a good season.

Maybe’s... that’s what our season will be about. City are so much stronger. Liverpool has the better team now. Chelsea just signed Kovacic To go with Jorginho for ideal Sarri-ball. Arsenal have a new thing going...

There’s and interesting and enormous contradiction at play in many parts of the forum lately.

Firstly there is such a tangible frustration towards Woodward and the business side of the club in failing to do a deal for a number of viable targets. Secondly, there is condemnation of mourinho for being frustrated for the same reason.

What is up with liverpool admiration here? Why they are better than us?

£17.5mil apparently his clause is

Doesn't make any sense. If he is so great with a release clause like that, then every big club in Europe would be after him, including us weeks ago. Why aren't they?

Because he's never wanted to leave. City tried.

This is a long shot.

This might be a stupid question, especially since I tried to google it and didnt find a reply. Which usually means stupid question.

But here it goes: Does the closure of the transfer window tonight also preclude us to sign players on loan or send players on loan?

I guess it should since this should be a registration issue, but I havent really found any clear info on it.

EDIT: I mean towards other PL clubs, obviously we are allowed to transfer or loan players out from us until the European window closes.

You could be right there

No really his not. Seriously come on, its not how it works. Or at least if that is really what they are doing they don't deserve to be in the job.

No CEO/Chairman/MD would deliberately not invest in there company preventing it from growing purely down to the fact they have no faith in there manager and would risk actually seeing the company move in the opposite direction as a result. It goes against what there job actually is. Your suggesting the board are setting us up to fail.

Regardless who is the manager, they should be looking to invest year in year out. If they don't see Jose as the right man then they should have got rid at the end of the season. Our strategy shouldn't be determined by our manager.

If the club are not spending out of choice then imo its because they are penny pinching like last year, which given how competitive the league is and the obvious cracks, is still wrong.

It's a real fenzy out there isn't it. We seem to have put ourselves under a lot of undue pressure during this window. It's certainly not helped by Mourinho saying he's not happy in every single interview, although he was often just talking about World Cup players not being around for preseason.

Oh well, we will just need to make do with what we have.

I think we are crying out for a CB, a LB and a RW in addition to even a RB. But whatever, the windows nearly over now so feck it. Football is back tomorrow so will throw my considerable frame behind the team and hope we get off to a flier, and I think we will surprise a few folk as while I thought we needed to shift players and bring more quality in, we’re nowhere as bad as people are making out.

Liverpool were a very good team last year. They played fast... they played expansive and were a threat to anyone and everyone.

Ask yourself what held them back. It was a wafer thin midfield and feckless goalkeeper.

Midfield: They bought a very talented box-to-box midfielder in Naby Keita who will be the engine for them and fits perfectly into Klopp's football philosophy. They also bought Fabinho who is the defensive midfield piece they so desperately needed after Can's exit to Juventus. Oh and a nice additional squad player in the form of Shaqiri adds further depth to their wings.

Goalkeeper: Allison. Nuff said.

What is their weakness? Defence. This is where they are still vulnerable.

But overall, they play as a cohesive unit who understand their footballing philosophy. Liverpool reach the CL final and if it weren't for spurious Karius... they had a shout at winning it all.

Liverpool come this season with confidence and cohesion. We, however, come in with uncertainty, negativity and sense of dread. Just listen to Mournho talk these days. Miserable man.

And still we finished 2nd they finished 4th. Year before when we won two cups. They won zero. I don't buy that liverpool love story. They are very good team but not better than us

This window is genuinely depressing. I can't believe there weren't players available who would have improved our team at LB, RB, CB, RW and even added depth at ST. So much was needed from the window. Even some sales would have been comforting because that just guarantees incomings to replace them.
Not at all looking forward to the season. The main reason why we have struggled so horribly to control games (be it any team) has been our inability to convert off the ball pressure into possesion. Every time any opposition gets hold of the ball in our half we have pressed but ultimately pushed back into our own half. A CB was needed for that purpose primarily. To help win the ball back not just make last ditch clearances and silly tackles. That's what I convinced myself the club believed would turn us this season. Wasn't complaining when we didn't sign a senior RB, or a LB or any damn RW. Even Shaqiri would have helped, only because I was convinced that we would have a better backline led by a calm head who would help dominate games and ultimately help United sustain pressure in the opposition half.
They had the whole summer to deliver any one of the problem positions. And we're back to square one with Jones and Smalling and Rojo and endless brainfarts and clusterfecks.
Really would like to scream into Woodward's face.
According to Liverpool sources the Shaqiri, Fabinho and VVD deals were done 2 months in advance. Keita was obviously done 5 months in advance. I don't understand why United must wait until the window gets going to be start negotiations. Least they can do now is keep going and get something done for the January window. Zero positivity for me as the team stands.

He could have said "we'll see what happens" or something like that. It really looks like we are done.

It's a bit disappointing but our supposed targets didn't exactly set the pulses racing anyway. Not getting a sixth CB shouldn't be a disaster.

“We’ll see what happens” raises excitement and expectations, and in my opinion, Jose has been trying to do the opposite recently.

That's a ridiculous strategy.
If you have no faith in the manager and believe that he is going cock things up, sack him and hire the manager you want.
IMO, the board want Jose to stay as long as possible as they know he can keep getting us top 4, on a meagre budget....just as Wenger did for Arsenal. Funny how the Arsenal board, never "saved up any money for the next manager". That's usually how it works.

This might not be the appropriate thread for this question, but when is deadline day in England? :nervous:

we can't fecking buy anyone.

We are looking for value in the market.
Woodward doesn't understand that the market has moved on in the last 2 years and he can't pay 2016 prices in 2018.
CFC and LFC, for example are buying GKs for huge sums of money. And these GKs are not the best in the World.
EPL proven defenders are now priced at around £75M.
