Wot, no transfers?

I think Jose knows exactly what he's doing, all the negativity that the media is insinuating these days is the total opposite of the actual situation. Yeah, I think everything is bullshit even that relation crap about him and Pogba.

He and our lads know exactly where they stand and they will certainly give a real go to the premierleague and champions league.
Someone has taken his happy pills.

I take off in 7 mins to fly from London to New York. When I land, the window would have ‘slammed shut’. Who knows if our team will look any different. That said, it will only be 13:30pm in New York so I can still do deals on United’s behalf for a few hours if they need!

It has nothing to do with the Grealish situation. At all.

I don't profess to know the inner-workings of Spurs football club (or my own club for that matter!) but given Spurs' lack of activity in the transfer market this summer, one way or t'other, I think it's a fairly safe assumption that Levy is working with an estimated transfer budget to the grand total of zero.

Should he finalize the sale of Toby to United, he would free up the funds required to meet Villa's demands for Grealish. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Yeah there's about feck all chance of us signing someone until 5 pm. The excuse seemingly beeing that we feel the market has been inflated and we don't want to spend silly money. Which is a bit fecking ridiculous after spending silly money time and time again for about 4 years and massively contributing to that inflation.

But no, it's fine. Let's be a reasonable club. Let's get shitloads of sponsorships, let's put up a flashing neon sign so everyone can see how fecking loaded we are and then expect to get players for reasonable prices. Let's.

"The club's determined not to be ripped off". What's the fecking point. Where was that aditude for the past four years.

Still expecting a surprise by the end of today.

But can't say I blame the board / Ed for being reluctant to pay over the odds for injury prone / older players. Especially given that so much has already been spent on players under Jose, and some of them haven't exactly performed to the levels expected.

Win-win, no?
They'd lose one of their best players for a fee he isn't happy about and they would overpay for another player or even worse yet get rejected by Villa. It's a lose-lose for Levy.

The club don't trust Jose anymore. I think they are reluctant to give him another 100-150m knowing he's more than likely going to leave in the next year.
Alright, fine. Sack him then. Why do we expect results from a manager that we don't trust as it is, nevermind with a squad he feels is not good enough? Where is the logic in that?

Which is great because Levy is the worst human being ever to grace the earth. Or something.

He’s not going to say yes in a press conference, is he?
He could have said "we'll see what happens" or something like that. It really looks like we are done.

It's a bit disappointing but our supposed targets didn't exactly set the pulses racing anyway. Not getting a sixth CB shouldn't be a disaster.

Listen mate, you close windows, you slam doors. You certainly don't slam windows, although you can close doors.

Edit: Too late, already taken off.

I've got this strange feeling that still something is happening, Zlatan IG vid about something big, press shouting out diff names cuz really they've got no idea what we really doing and now this new app. Big signing today confirmed via the new app? Gut feeling that something is cooking!

In my head, we have signed the following this Summer:

- Fred
- Dalot
- Grant
- Sanchez
- Pereira

Not bad.

If Jose can get the following to perform at one or two more levels better, we'll be stronger:

-Lindelof
- Rashford
- Martial
-Shaw

And if Bailly can stay for for at least 20 more games, we'll be in business.

Let's be honest if a scouser was on RAWK talking about such 'new signings' for Liverpool we'd be laughing our arses off. I admire the positivity of the outlook and agree we have players who have yet to show anything near their full potential for us there's no doubt Jose was aiming to add more players this summer.

Certainly, and anyone blaming Jose for that at this point is blinded by agenda as far as I'm concerned. We can discuss his management of players, his style, his negative demeanour and whatnot but transfers are not on him. He's given names to Ed and the board and they haven't delivered. Whether or not there's more to this disagreement on targets between Jose and the board, and possibly legitimate difficulties behind the scenes in getting deals done, are fair talking points but none of that is on Jose.
Except for we don’t know who he had on the list and if any of those players were even in the slightest bit possible, or if clubs were asking ridiculous stupid fees for players on the list. Unfortunately we are Manchester United and we should and probably are aiming for the top of the mountain and doing that we probably go after a certain standard of player which is never going to be easy. There is more to it than “Woody just pooped the bed”

The media have played a blinder off the back of a poor pre season and have convinced almost everyone that we are in for a meltdown.

I think we will beat Leicester convincingly and will go on to have a great season.

Imagine if we don't beat Leicester

If Jose had played Sanchez right wing and intended to this season then I wouldn’t be anywhere near as worried as I am.

A front three of Sanchez Lukaku Martial/Rashford could be devastating.

Instead it’s a front three of Mata/Lingard Lukaku Sanchez.

Indeed.
Levy isn't foolish enough to attempt to buy a replacement in the last hour, hoping to get a good deal.
Woodward on the other hand, would do exactly that...and would then proceed to over-pay in desperation.

So, what you are saying is that if we include Martial in our attack, we'd be devastating. If we don't include him, we're weak?

Yep - I agree with this. Woody HAS backed Mourinho and LVG previously. Am not counting Moyes as he was completely inept.
We are obviously not prepared to pay £50m+ for players who are ~30 or over, so that rules out Perisic and Toby. Bale probably fits into that category too. Maguire is one that seems gettable, even if its for £75-80m, so I think we'll probably end up with him, if we get anyone at all.
He has also probably been told he has to offload one or two before buying any more, which again is pretty reasonable. We can't keep stockpiling players, CBs in particular, at the £30m/£100k pw level and they rarely play or are permanently injured. We have not sold a single squad player this window.

This is as much on Jose as it is on Woodward.

PS - I hope the Zouma rumours are a bad joke.

Why not 3 weeks ago? :wenger:

Exactly!
If Woodward was serious about buying a player, why did he not do the deal weeks or even months ago?
Waiting to do a deal in the last hour is basically telling the seller, "I am desperate and I am prepared to over-pay".

True, and I'm not saying it's clear exactly where and to what extent all the blame should be levelled. My point is that if you make the (in my opinion fair) assumption Jose had a list of reasonable names, and potentially discussed alternatives when certain avenues closed, I don't see how our sub-optimum window comes back to Jose.

I also accept it's unfair to lambaste Ed and the board without keeping mitigating factors and one's own biases in mind but should we end up with no more signings, when the manager clearly wants them and everyone can see we're short in certain areas, it'll come down to the suits behind the scenes before Jose in my opinion.

I’m content with JM’s view in the presser: nothing happening, so l’ll concentrate on getting to international break with what I have. Leicester, Brighton, Spurs (no signings) and Burnley. Let’s see how we’re looking then....

Haha no. We aren't that skint. The issue is Poch only wants to spend the money on particular players, and if we can't get them we won't spend, it's not because we have no money.

Let's hope Bailey stays fit till Jan and sign Toby for 25m in Jan then that is still decent business. A right winger was much more of a priority for me. Still not confident in any of our players to play there.

Maybe because godin was plan B and has release clause so deal can be done in few hours( presuming that terms with players are done via his agent days ago)

Edit: he has 20 mil clause. Contract expires next year. Bargain

No because Martial hasn’t show consistency. But if we play a deep defence and try to counter I’d rather the pace of Martial or Rashford than Juan Mata.

I think Martial and Rashford are better left wingers than Mata or Lingard is at Right Wing. We all thought the plan with Sanchez was to fix right wing, no?

Sanchez was pretty good in that position for Barcelona and Udinese.

You are right - we would have been lucky to get £15m for Miki at the time, a player who had one great season in 5, and who was utterly useless for us.

We shall see what Sanchez can do this summer - let’s pretend he’s a new signing.

If we sign Toby/Maguire today, add in Fred, Dalot and Sanchez - then that’s pretty good.
On paper it sounds alright. Let's hope it works out on the pitch. :)

I don't see the board strategy to be honest, do they have one? the team needed upgrades in specific areas. Very disappointed.
