I think right wing is probably the position we've been linked with least, isn't it? Besides Bale. It's truly remarkable.

There aren’t a whole load of options really which is depressing. One of those summers where a lack of talent is available at the clubs in the tier below us.

Brandt, Bailey, Rebic would be three promising yet untested options. Willian looks like he's going to Barca and Bale looks set to stay. The cheap option in Shaquiri has ended up at Liverpool.

I think the most likely outcome will be switching Sanchez to the right wing, with Lingard as backup. Expecting players like Pereira and Chong to get promotions too.

Interesting that we have signed a full back and a midfielder then ehh!?

The fullback we signed is too young to make a difference. He has to first & foremost adapt to the league and then perform week in week out. Do you really expect him to become Kyle Walker from the jump?

I agree we aren't close to city. Who is. We are in a far better position than everyone else. And still have time to do more signings. Liverpool have solved a go issue . They have solved nothing else and will stoll have to probably score 3 goals a game in average to win games because of the poor defence. Fabinho won't change that. Monaco shipped goals for fun the same way Liverpool do with him in the side.

Liverpool have Naby Keita & Fabinho. You won’t find a better midfield pairing in the PL when those 2 guys get going. I am not even sure Liverpool fans know how good Keita is. He’s a machine....a Kante that has an eye for a goal.

Spurs have literally signed no one . If you are even half worried about them at this very moment then I honestly don't know what to tell you. You would probably still fret if we signed 10 Galacticos. A CB to replace one of Jones /Rojo /Smalling would be nice and it seems we are actively working on that. We signed a midfielder that will replace one that literally didn't play last season. I think many of you are underestimating that signing. We also signed a full back that can play both sides. I trust Jose who thinks he's great . If we sell Darmian for the money he's worth then we will most likely sign another. Jose already said he's happy with our attack. If not then we will sign someone. The pandemonium is ridiculous in here.

Do Spurs have any weakness? Trippier/Rose are as good as any full backs in the league. They have those 2 Belgian monsters as CBs - they are 100 times better than Jones/Smalling.

Their midfield is also packed - Dembele, Dier, Eriksen, Alli, Wanyama. You can’t find any slouch in their set-up. They have Son, Aurier, Ben Davies in wide areas. The only reason they don’t win is because of the weak mentality - the talent is obviously there.

As things stand....United are the weakest technically in the top 6. 70% of the players in the squad can’t pass the ball accurately from 10 yards, 80% are poor in possession and yet we are not doing anything to solve that problem.

I just saw Jose’s presser now. He said he has no clue about who’s coming or who’s leaving - I hope to God he’s just kidding cos what he’s got currently will not win the PL. We are weaker now than we were 12 months ago. All our 30+ players have added 1 more year which means they would be a yard slower this season.

Is this the first summer in living Caf memory where there hasn’t (yet) been at least one proper Muppet saga thread?

City are miles ahead of us, Arsenal and Chelsea can only get better, Liverpool look much improved and United seem to be treading water and look generally uninterested.

When this thread was started I felt relaxed about tranafers, but its pretty alarming at this point imo

I don't think its possible that we're done with transfers right now. It isn't, we'll definitely sign at least two players, question is if they'll be enough to change our season or if we'll be signing for the right positions

We're running out of time

We'd need to be in the "preparing a bid" stage by now to sign someone by August 9th

We prepare the bid for 2 weeks. Then it's the week of bid rejections and links with other clubs. Then we agree a fee. Then the "flying in for a medical" takes another 2 weeks..

We have no time !!!! :wenger::eek::nervous:

We need a Left Back, 2 Centre Backs & a Right Winger if we are to challenge on all fronts.

If I were a betting man, I'd guess that we sign one Centre Back & either a Right Winger or Left back, not both though.

4 signings, Jose's usual.

Is it weird that I'm not super phased by this? We have some holes to fill but I honestly think that no matter who we sign what makes the difference will be the coaching. We can sign a bunch of players and that'd be all well and good, but I feel any chance of us challenging on all fronts depends on the likes of Lukaku, Pogba, Sanchez, Martial, Rashford etc. at their best. Having these players in top form is more valuable than any potential signings (unless we are signing a world beater). Not saying we don't need signings but even if we do make the signings we want, we need our big players firing on all cylinders and part of that hinges on Jose finding a way to get the best out of them. Not all on the coach though, Jose has plenty to prove for me but the players have to stop hiding and show their best selves this season.

That all being said, I'd love a couple of signings to get the muppet juices flowing. LB is a must, I wouldn't mind someone who can actually play on the right flank, and if we offload a CB then there's room for another.

Calm down.

We'll at least sign 2 more players, have no doubt about it.

There won't be any muppet signing though with Bale not available.

Whats happening at Chelsea , City and to some extent at Liverpool is very different to whats going on at UTD , the Glaziers are a glorified vulture fund , never forget that
Might get off bit off the topic but ( i might not know )I dont know whats the politics is about that glaziers keeping their debt on united however no manager complained our finance available for the transfer.

Glazers were not bad in financial assist i guess. We did buy pogba mikhi to adress weaknesses. Baily and lidelof for cb options. Its just moyes dark magic that destroyed team aura of winning mentality visible till now. I dont think any billionaire will keep on splashing cash like its happening to chelsea and city will have same fate

No. Sanchez was effectively a summer signing, as January transfers are always a bit of a crap shoot as to when they will settle into the side. We don't struggle for numbers and need to prune our squad a bit before adding players. Reducing the squad would go much faster if we went back to effectively giving away our discards, but then people would bitch and moan about that too.

It's clear he wants more. That's good enough for me. If we don't sign anymore, it's on Woodward.

Last few windows have ruined rational expectations from a transfer window. Pogba, Ibra, Lukaku, Sanchez. I bet everyone was expecting a huge name again.

I'm not saying we don't need signings but it's annoying to see some posters saying we need another CM because Fred isn't good enough when they haven't seen him play.

I don’t think Mourinho and the board are on the same page, he wants over priced quick fixes they want marquee names or players with a potential sell on value.

Both parties are at fault and with the World Cup and window closing early it makes everything even more difficult. I still think we will buy at least one more player but there has to be a big rethink at the club in the longer term, post Mourinho (which may not be far away) they need a plan.

Well it's basically what Woody has set out to do in every summer window, didn't he say as much that he wants to make a superstar signing every year?

Espn has said we are favourites to sign gsry cahill. feck off, he'd instantly be our worst centre back

If he could stay fit he'd be at least our 3rd best. That's not saying much though - I'd say that for any centre back that can stay fit.

I don't think Mourinho would accept that, he wants to win things.

He may want to win things but he cannot look at our squad and then City's squad and say we have as good a chance as them of winning the league.
There are at least 3 gaping holes in the squad that need addressing.

If Jose manages to get us 4th, he's done well if I am honest. The board have been a decade of complete penny pinching A holes, its like hiring a carpenter but refusing to pay for the right materials. If I am honest the club's biggest enemy has been its own board, who have allowed the balance of power to shift, but they saying hey we making profits without needing to win trophy's

and the profits at Man Utd , have they slipped ? the answer is No and that = happy happy Glaziers

The first sentence is our problem in a nutshell....we still need 2 new CB’s although Jose has bought 2 for around £75m and we have about 5 on the books that aren’t up to it.

He’s bought 2 centre backs in his first 2 summer windows... maybe after we’ve spent 400m and 6 players later we might get a decent one, let’s keep buying them until one sticks.

Blowing money left right and centre this club it’s fecking shocking.

I have read comments from some stating how we need to get the best out of the existing bunch of players and also how we don't neccessarily need to plug the obvious holes to be in the title mix.

I wonder if these are actual expectations or if they are comments made because the posters have resigned to the fact that the club won't spend the required money to address the obvious weak areas in our team.

Many of us have keenly watched certain MUFC players over the years and have come to the conclusion that they are not of the required standards for a club of our prestige.
A lot of them have caused nothing but frustrations on countless occasions and counting on them for any meaningful , sustained performances will not just happen.

Apart from Lukaku,Sanchez, Bailly and Pogba (who I feel have room for improved performances than they showed last year) and hopefully Fred as well as Dalot(the new purchases), can someone please tell me what best there is to extract from players like Young, Valencia, Jones, Smalling - most likely the back four in the first game against Leicester?

Is there any hope that Mata, Rashford, Martial, Lingard and Fellaini will stop being the inconsistent, frustrating players we have known them to be over the years?

Let's not kid ourselves here; Leopards do not change their spots.
We are not challenging for any majors with this current bunch and it will only take a couple of games when the season begins before the regular whining and moaning from fans set in.

Its proven trophy's does not mean fallen profits only bragging rights, they thinking its too expensive to win trophy's so top 4 is good enough, talk about groundhog day and groundhog day makes the glazers very very rich, while we watch on has our rivals win the trophy's

They generally don'y move because no one would even consider matching their salaries.

I think this is precisely our problem. We seem to target unrealistic signings then allow those types of players to get taken by the others and miss out.

Why can’t we take a chance on Bailey? Rebic had a very good World Cup, granted that is not great indicator. But I would much rather have a natural RW than another season of rotating the position between players who can’t play there.

So frustrating. I think we need a RW, LB and second striker who’s happy on the bench. I like the look of Fred, not quite sure where the logic has come from with Dalot, would have preferred someone who will fight for Valencia’s place this season not in 2 years time.

If Liverpool get Fekir and Alisson they have had a solid transfer window. The lack of links to anyone is worrying, there has been nothing over the last week from reliable sources.

Just saw a quick something about Utd wanting Lewandowski and Thiago
Zilch chance for that. 1st - Polish newspapers would've been all over it already, 2nd - it seems as if Lewy and United have always been unaware of each other existence. No strong rumours, talks etc. and actually we've been far more in need of a no.9 in recent years than we are now. 3rd - I don't see our board paying the money necessary given his age and probably the lowest stock he's been at since he moved to Bayern. 4th - I can't see him moving out of his comfort zone to a ruthless league, sans Madrid that is.

2nd and 4th are obviously feeling-based.

I’ve been trying to make sense of our transfer strategy this window but at this moment I am completely lost.

When I look at our rivals they seem to be following very specific transfer plans which incorporate very specific knockbacks, moving fast and hard on potential targets when they feel the moment is right and then swiftly reassessing when something goes awry.

For example Manchester City wanted an attacker and deep-lying playmaker, and whilst signing Mahrez were knocked back with Jorginho, so they have been quietly sounding out the likes of Kovacic and Pjanic ever since, their lack of desperation to make this signing at all costs perfectly understandable. Chelsea had their managerial delay but are certainly making up for lost time by going hard and fast with Jorginho signed and the likes of Golovin and Rugani on the way with Higuain said to be another clearly gettable target. Tottenham are clearly trying to be clever by letting their rivals use up all their cash first before entering the fray – you could never accuse Levy of not having a plan – while Arsenal and Liverpool need little explanation.

All of their attempted business follows a very clear order and pattern.

Our own however, I just don’t understand; to ramble a little, the reliable Duncan Castles assured us that left-back was our priority at the start of the summer, and that we were far along in talks for Alex Sandro - Tierney a back up - with Juventus not exactly asking for an exorbitant fee. Midway through the summer however that dropped off the radar as Mourinho suddenly 180’d and Ashley Young became a top notch attacking full back with Luke Shaw a sure thing to get fit at his 32nd attempt. We then seem to have fumbled around for a centre back in Alderweireld but Levy – shockingly – asked for a fee that was not at our preferred mate’s rate discount of £50m, and that’s where all reliable reports of our centre back pursuit ended. It was previously widely communicated that after the Sanchez signing another attacker would not come unless Martial left, but this seemed to fly out the window after Bale’s Champions League final revelations, Woodward deciding to wait on him like the loyal retriever, clearly taking heart from Bale being so keen to come that he waited until the first day of Real Madrid's pre-season to have his urgent post-Champions League final chat with Lopetegui. Seems we’ve been knocked back on that too. We’re now briefing the press that we’re refusing to panic whilst simultaneously planting nonsense leaks about Lewandowski and Thiago, with Mourinho openly stating that he’s worried. I’m not sure we even have viable back ups to Alderweireld and Bale.

Ever since Thiago and Strootman it's felt like Woodward & co were allowing themselves to be blown around in the market breeze rather than strategically cutting their way through it, though I’m not sure whether this is just my perception?
