Im very sad for the moment...

2-3 against Czech Republic, thats the life for a Swedish human...

You played well, could have gone either way. Excellent game to watch I must say.

I'm getting used to lose important games with 1 goal :(

Hehe.
Canada will win it easily against the Czech mates!

Watch out you lazy Jagr! Heheheh hehehee

I wouldn´t be so sure. We scored against Canada 4 times, Czech can that too, but we conceded 5 with our horrible defence. And Czech defence is much more better than our was.

There is nothing better than watching the Canucks lose the only sport they are ever going to be good at.

Here's a random bump for you all, many posters I've never even heard of

Anyway, so there's a world championships on at the moment, I know because it went to overtime and delayed my watching of 'Johnny English' earlier

And yet I turn onto ESPN, hoping for baseball of course, and it's the Stanley Cup playoffs

And I wonder, is that not a bit daft? The football equivalent of having the World Cup finals at the same time as the Champions League knock out rounds?

The thing is that the World Championship is not a World Championship in the same sense as the World Cup in football. The WC in hockey is played every year and has players from the European leagues and the ones from the NHL teams that didn't qualify or were knocked out of the Stanley Cup in the early rounds. So you could say that it's the left overs that plays basically since more or less all of the worlds best players play in the NHL. The quality is still very good mostly and some of the very best players play for some of the worst teams in the NHL thanks to the draft system so it's not just a tournament full of shit players and many good players are to be found around Europe as well. It's still seen as a prestigious tournament, especially among European hockey countries it seems.

I guess there isn't enough time to play it in the post season.

The big one is the Olympic games which (obviously) occurs every four years. That's where all the best players in the world participate, which I fecking hope will be the case for years to come but the NHL has been moaning about that recently. The NHL basically controls the sport since they don't have any competition. The Russian KHL have been throwing around money like crazy recently so maybe things will change but who knows if it will be for the better. The IIHF, which is the hockey equivalent of FIFA is very weak in comparison to it's football counterpart. The NHL calls the shots in the hockey world.

Did you become Swedish enough to watch any hockey yet Brad? We are facing elimination from the group stage if we don't beat the Swiss tomorrow, which would be a huge scandal.

Did anyone see the Russia - USA today? It was a real masterclass from the Russians for a period and a half then the game sort of died down. That Radulov goal in particular was a beauty.

Pretty funny to read this old thread I must say.

When so many of the world's best players are still playing in the NHL, the World Championships is a bit of a fraud really.

Likely, the IIHF is probably like every other sports organisation

It's all about the money

If they wanted money, host the tournament in Canada more than once

I think they made more monies from the round robin last year in Halifax & Quebec then they did entirely the 4 years before COMBINED.

TV.

Games in Canada are on at shite times for the Euro audience, which, given the lack of true quality in the Canadian and US teams, is the audience that generates most money. Fans at the stadium is peanuts compared to the armchair fan.

Seems to me like Europeans care about it a lot more than NA hockey fans. It's a bit shit granted, but still a lot of fun.

Sweden play against the Czechs tonight. Swedens defense hasn't looked all that great and up against Jagr, Elias, Hemsky and friends I think we'll lose.

Acronym & Word: NHL Playoffs

3-1 to the heroic Swedes with a little help from our friends*! Big games tomorrow. Russia - USA and Sweden - Canada in the semis. Will anyone be watching or am I basically speaking to myself here?

Is it shown anywhere? Eurosport? SVT?

WOW what an end to that Russia - US Game... poor Americans looked so good the entire time.

Dude we only beat Latvia (feckING LATVIA) 4-2... can't get cocky, Sweden look really good.

 sorry, just posting my usual guff with these tournaments. Turn up around the semis, ask if we've won yet, you know.

Sweden are bottlers anyway. As long as we're not playing Paul Kariya we're safe.

Thing is that you're right most of the time Dwayne you Canadian cnut. You have a great recipe for WU success right there.

Canada wins deservedly 3-1. Shots on goal were even, but Sweden didn't play very organized and lacked bite. And PP sucked. Is there anything more frustrating in hockey than to watch consecutive shit power plays? Makes me want to slit my wrists.

Canada - Russia in the final this sunday.

I'm not too bummed out over this one as I was expecting it to happen and I always have the this-tournament-is-shit-anyways excuse. Hopefully we'll meet next year in Vancouver! Not to mention finally kicking your ass in the WJCs at Saskatoon around Christmas hehe.

Alright, this tournament is over. Russia beat Canada 2-1 in the final and Sweden got the bronze by winning 4-2 against USA.

Decent enough tournament this year and well deserved win by the Russians. They impressed me the most throughout the tournament.

This thread though is a bit of a disappointment. I'm basically the only one posting in it . Some pervs could open up an illegal kiddie porn sharing operation in here and no one would even bother to open the thread. Except for me. So don't worry Caf, I've got your back.

Shit finale for us, boys Brizzy played off his tree, the benching in the Quarters paid off for him.

Norway is beating Germany 9-0 right now. Hehe. So bump, I guess. Couldn't be arsed to create a new thread.

And just as I write that, it's 9-1. Haha.

EDIT: Final result 12-4. Crazy game.

Russia trashed Finland and Slovakia beat their big brother in the semi's.

Would be a huge upset if Slovakia manage to win, Russia are huge favourites considering the way they've played this tournament.
