Can anyone stop Canada?

A really good team once again. The World Cup no. 2 Finland has not got their best players available this time and thus I do not think much can be expected from the second best team in the world.

Sweden seems to be good, they have got rid of the deadwood and their underperforming star players and now look really hungry with Daniel Alfredsson and Zetterberg leading the line.

Slovakia will have Satan, Palffy, Chara and the likes available. Chech rep will be insanely strong once again. Russia will probably dissapoint. Did I forget anyone? oh yes, the Yanks are shite at icehockey and will not make it.

since the NHL season was cancelled, i was concern about the player's fitness, think the countries with a season might get a little advantage..but who knows...

AND MATS SUNDIN :D

 but Canada vs. US is always fun to watch...well let's see what spot will the *DREAM TEAM* be at...

Sundin was part of the always underperforming deadwood, along with lidstrom and markus naslund.. He is not playing now as he prefered to play golf this season instead of hockey..

I find it so comical that posters want to talk shit about the US not being great in a particular sport (considering the US dominates many team and individual sports), most likely due to bringing politics into sport. Don't hate the US sports teams because you dislike the US government. It's pretty childish. Like hating your buddy down the street because his parents try to run the neighborhood.

No need to get your knickers in a twist. You are not very good at hockey now that Modano, Brett Hull are all around 35. Nevermind on big ice. Has nothing to do with politics, as well, I have nothing against US politics in the first place. Been poor growth in hockey in the States, the current strike isn't helping either.

Im already looking forward to lose a final against Canada again.

You are quite right. We had a ton of brilliant players born between 1966-1972. After that, we have nothing (with but a few exceptions) until about 1980, and even then, the numbers are small.

Our youngsters (1984 and after) are incredibly talented, but they are too young to contribute just yet.

Modano is still amongst the 5 best players in the world...well...you'd think but we haven't seen top stars play hockey in months...they may all be shit now.

Finland beat the Chech Rep. 4-0. Russia looks bloody strong though, really amazing team they have at the moment. Outplayed the swedes totally. They are the favorites at the moment I would say.

Nah, sweden is just shit. :D

21 cnuts have said no so far to play for Sweden. The Swedish team looks shit on paper at least it's better than Finlands.

I am not sure of our chances for the World Championships, but at least we won the U-18's--and kicked the living piss out of the Canucks in the process.

Is that doofus girl going to sing a national anthem again, and fall flat on her keester?

Against Canda in the final?

Nah we will lose against Canada in the final like we always do ;)

Trying to find my tape with the quarter final from 2003 against the finnish thiefs. Classic match :D

Honestly Sweden's only decent chance is if Lundqvist plays like he did in the Swedish playoffs.

It will be sad day for us Swedes when we have to appoint a foreign coach to win World Championships ;)

Saw this guy play in the finals in Finland. Awesome player and an excellent defender. Shame he can not represent us yet.. ;)

Yeah he's a good player. He's better than a couple of Finnish defenders I saw on the roster for World Championships.

Kimmo Timonen (Nashville Predators/KalPa)
Ossi Väänänen (Colorado Avalanche/Jokerit)

This isn't a bad line-up. Petteri Nummelin is likely to be an all star defender this tournament. He is absolutely fantastic. Kimmo Timonen was in the world cup all star team, scores alot for a defender. Karalahtu, Väänänen, Niemi take care of the physical side.

Would say that our defenders are alright, problem is to score as always. No really good forwards there, Rita has been impressive though and Jokinen is excellent.

Timonen and Nummelin are great. The other defenders are decent never heard of Saravo though.

Btw who is first choice goalie? Is it Nurminen?

Richter said:

Haven't heard of some of the other defenders either, not really uptodate with the hockey as I just returned to Finland. Probably good though, defenders and goalkeepers we are usually able to produce.

It's between Norrena and Bäckström. Would prefer Bäckström myself, looked better in the pre-tournament games and he was excellent during the finnish playoffs.
