Its his second summer window now, there are no excuses this time around. we have holes to fill in our starting 11 and we have an absolute fortune to spend to fill them. We need at least 2 more quality players.

Looks like our transfer business is done. No suprirse there though since Ed & Moyes had a year to work things out in regards to this. When Ander was confirmed, then a day later, Shaw was confirmed everything was great. At least we bought them, filling some gaps.

If no more players come - Woodward will be seen to have failed in the transfer market.

If we then go on and have a fantastic season (with Shaw and Herrera performing well) will he still have failed ?

Should success / failure should be judged on footballing results or transfer market results ?

If LVG put the kaibosh on any more signings then obviously Woody isn't to blame. If he wanted other players then Woody is at fault. Not that we'll know.

Either way, our performance this coming year is about the manager not the CEO.

I'd only judge at the end of the window when it has closed. If LVG categorically says he wanted more players but there was no value!

i think Van Gaal will have wanted to hold off to assess the squad properly

if we are waiting for the results of Vidal's knee scan/assessment Woodward is doing his job also

would be reckless to gamble that kind of money on an injured player unless we are sure

i expect some activity in the next few days

I think that's nonsense tbf, we need at least another 2 or 3, for sure a centre back that's not afraid of using the ball, a centre mid that can actually tackle and I'd like cover for Shaw that means we don't have Young as backup for several positions.

At times last season Gary said we need 6 or 7 new signings and we all agreed, now we've signed 2, one a teenager and people are sayinv that's job done?

Woody is cutting it fine again, lets hope he doesn't fail again!

The master of bid preparations.

I'm guessing this will be another summer where he will look like a fool. Should have just shut the feck up and people would have been eventually content with Herrera and Shaw, but after his "watch this space" shit people are expecting big players and he will look like an idiot again, when he inevitably fails to sign anyone.

1 week till the season starts. Taking the piss a bit again.

His problem is he doesn't know when to quit and move on. Another transfer where we're linked for ages and then nothing. Wasting time.

He needs to gain better instincts on dead ends quick or jog on and give the job to someone who does.

All i have heard over the last few weeks, is that we are preparing, monitoring, and thinking about bidding-how hard can it be?

Can someone call David Gill.

Some posters will be happy we haven't signed Vermaelen but it doesn't change the fact this is a player LVG has identified as a main target and Ed has failed to deliver on. One week to go and we still need at least 2 signings. Not good enough by a long shot.

How do you suggest we twist Arsenal's arm into selling to a rival rather than a club in a completely different league to them? A few million extra isn't going to matter to them.

Arsenal wanted Smalling for Vermaelen, they were not interested in money only a swap deal.

LVG and Woody were right to veto this deal.

He was reported as a target before the world cup even started, the transfer market isn't going to hang around while we decide when/what to offer. Things are constantly changing and one move effects plenty of others. This deal should have been done long ago when Barca were trying to sign Marquinhos or going through the Suarez saga.

Wenger was never gonna gift him to us, guys. And LVG and Woodward obviously set a maximum limit for fee's they are gonna spend on a specific player.

Arsenal could only dictate these terms once there was competition from Barca. Again the dynamics of the transfer market change all the time and waiting around is only going to see us lose out.

No, they were never in a hurry selling him.

True, but there is so much we don't know. How long have Barca been interested? Has Vermaelen pushed for an early move to United or did he and his agent take their time? There's so much Woodward or anyone at United can do.

So... It's Van Gaal's fault then?

Yes. When only one club has shown interest and the player makes it clear he wants to leave for understandable reasons, a player who has been a model professional and good servant they wouldn't be holding onto him until the last minute because United "should" make it clear if a deal isn't done by an acceptable date we'll move on.

Please highlight where I said it was LVG's fault. Thanks

You said we shouldn't have waited so long to go for him. Van Gaal made the decision to wait until after the tour when he had seen all the players. So if you're moaning about us waiting too long, your beef is with Van Gaal, not Woodward.

The way I see it Barca & United made their interest clear and only after that the player stated his interest to leave. Arsenal never wanted to sell him in the first place. If there was only the United offer in place they could've as well just told Vermaelen that they don't sell him to a bitter rival unless they get a great offer.

Contact was made with Vermaelen before the world cup so he was very clearly a target that LVG knows plenty about and identified. We need a minimum of 1 new CB even if LVG has been off the chart impressed with what he has available, Vermaelen can also cover at LB which makes sense.

United's interest has been clear for months and at no point even now has Vermalen stated his interest publicly to leave. Arsenal might not have wanted to sell him but he has 1 year left on his deal and more than anything he's been a model professional and good servant to Arsenal. If he approaches Wenger and says I need to leave because I can't spend my career on the bench this is a great chance for me what does Wenger say? Sorry but I don't care about your career enjoy the bench?

So it's a coincidence that Woodward waited until after the tour had finished like Van Gaal said he wanted to before he put in a bid?

Sorry, but they're our rivals and we don't sell to rivals for peanuts, if you can find a club abroad and they'll make the right offer we'll let you leave. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until next summer.

This kind of transfer makes all those stories about world class players Woody/LVG/Moyes have all turned down over the pass two years appear silly. If United was such a big pull like we are always being told then smaller transfers like Vermaelen should be a doddle.

I'm writing this now so that Woody still has time to prove me wrong,
