"What trades we might be doing". By trades he means players, doesn't he? Vidal for Nani?
Go get em Woody!

Even if he's lying or talking shit, the manner in which he does it is important, comes across as a strong, self-assured man. That impression is needed for our fans, players, manager and sponsors.

I thought so too. The confidence was refreshing and the difference with the new manager to last year is evident throughout in my eyes.

Cheers @Olly

Woodward's quotes have filled me with plenty of optimism tonight, especially just how brazen he is about transfers and his confidence in new arrivals, some of whom could well be big names considering he talked about our financial muscle in the transfer market.

Of course, I still have my doubts and worries after last summer, but it's good to know he's working behind the scenes.

After last summer, I really don't think he would say what he did without having some confidence in players arriving before the end of the summer.

With all due respect Stret, are you asking a question you already know the answer to - because you dont want to say whats on yer mind?

If so, tell us your answer man..
I am indeed asking a question that I already know the answer to but I needed it confirming because sometimes my muppet runs a little free and I needed confirmation from others! I just think we are in for some signings soon! Oh god the tension! :D

I think Woodward is more of a football man than people give him credit for. He seems to remember past games with fondness. Just because he is a suit doesnt mean he doesnt like football. He also strikes me as a frustrated transfer muppet and would gladly go harry redknapp on a bitch if he could

Nothing to get too excited about imo, we've been hearing that for some time now. I believe it when I see it

For all we know there may be a club representative (or two) posting on the CAF now. ;)

This is almost exactly, word for word, the same stuff Moyed got slaughtered for last summer. Especially the comments alluding to the manager not working on a restricted budget and hoping to sign the best players in the world.

Of course, it all came to nowt when it was Moyes shoved in front of the cameras and our transfer business made him look like a mug before a ball had even been kicked. I like that Van Gaal hasn't been green enough to act as a mouthpiece for Woodward's bravado this time round but it's all far too familiar if you ask me. Change the record and let your actions speak for themselves.

Thanks Olly. Woodward comes across as more likeable than I would have imagined, and overall I came away impressed. Said all the right things, and sounds like a true fan. He's obviously great with the financial aspects of his job and lining up sponsors, but also appears to be a downright muppet as well! The only part that was a little weird was towards the end when he was talking about the state of the club that Gill left him. Not sure what that was all about. Cautiously optimistic that one of the deals he spoke about taking place in the background is Vidal!

The Glazers are billionaires-and have a keen eye for business. They were impressed enough with Woodward to keep him around and increase his responsibilities. And so I'm not at all surprised that he comes across as a competent and impressive executive.

The narrative that the Glazers are happy to just make the CL and suck money out of the team makes no sense, and Woodward's interview in many places knocks down the naysayers head on. He says many times that United's ambitions are very high-and will do what's necessary to achieve that objective.

He had some great assurances on camera there but as with all of these kinds of things there was a little slice of negativity to come out of it that's been glazed over.

He mentioned signings coming in and stopping the world's best going to Spain. He also said more is on the way BUT he also said some people may be happy with what we do but some may be disappointed but the direction we are going should please people and the signings we make will make sense to the fans watching. To me that pretty much says we are signing some players but they may not be who we think? Arturoff?!

I took it as, when he took over the club that it was in an amazing state and now his task and job is to leave it in an even better state for the next man as it was left for him.

I'm in agreement with that - Van Gaal might not want to spend more importantly.

I want us to spunk a shitload on the best players around. But i get the feeling that Van Gaal wants to show what he can do, with pretty much the same squad as last season & not be a manager (at a top-class football club) who needs to have money to be successful..

With our resources - it doesnt bare thinkin about what he could do with the best players around, instead of polishing quite alot of shite that will only get you so far..

The Dutch team came 3rd in the WC & that was outstanding, but he had to work with what was available to him & make them better.

We're a different kettle of fish - 3rd place isnt good enough. He has the funds to make us 1st..

It's a fact that we just can't compete with RM or Barca or Bayern when it comes to transfers, mainly cause they're more successful. With the oil money, we will have to see how that turns out with regards to FFP. Thing is, I doubt we suddenly become a club who buy a "galactic" every summer

Just watched the full interview. Ed comes across well, likeable in fact. He seems like a bit of a transfer Muppet as well which will please quite a few on here.

With these interviews its sometimes difficult to spot the difference between the truth an what's just being said to impress the fans.

Either way I like how the Munich trip touched him, and how he wants to pass the club on in even better standing than he received it.

All in all he said the right things and time will tell.

That's exactly what he meant. He said it was left in an astonishing state iirc, which it was when you compare it to other clubs.

You must have been wanking too hard and not listened properly

Thanks @Olly

Great interview. Some ppl will always complain. What else should Woodward do? We've spent £ 120 mil on transfers already in what, 10 months without selling anyone of note. Our wage bill is the 2nd highest in the prem and we have a player on £ 250 k per week! He has also managed to get Adidas commit to 1 billion pounds despite us finishing 7th and not being in the CL! Regarding transfers we are still not finished it seems!

However some ppl are still desperate to prove for whatever reason that the transfer fiasco of last summer was mainly Woodward's fault and not Moyes'. Bless them!

Januzay is among the biggest players now ?
Of course not now, but he sure has the potential to be with the right guidance, especially under LvG. Had the future in mind when I wrote that post.

Aye, we've spent a chuffing fortune on Marouane Fellaini, a Chelsea reject, a fixed price Spaniard and the most expensive left back in the history of football (with one international cap and a handful of assists to his name). That's me convinced that Woody is shit hot when it comes to sealing those tricky transfer deals.

Obviously, he's always going to be heavily reliant on a manager who knows his shit in the transfer market and Moyes did a very good impression of being completely clueless. Still, you'd have to be very naive to think paying more than his buyout clause to sign Fellaini was the sum total of his ambitions in the market last summer and even more naive to decide that Woodward was completely blameless for the resultant shambles.

Since then we've spent a tonne of money but I'm still waiting to see a deal which makes me confident that our negotiators are on top of their game. Since Gill left, I can't think of one really impressive bit of business by the club. So for me, giving it billy big bollocks about how much money we have to spend proves feck all.

The one encouraging thing is that this interview has been done after it has been announced that the season tickets have been sold out, so there is no chance of Woodward lying just to appease the fans.

So what? Arsenal have also signed a Barca reject and a RM reject for big money. Chelsea also signed a Barca reject. Doesn't matter at all which club rejected him if Mata is a great player which he undoubtly is.

Fellaini obviously was a Moyes target and we have seen enough evidence of his dithering on and off the pitch to know that this was Moyes' fault. Herrera was all about the clause, but you still have to convince him to leave Bilbao - especially when they have finally qualified for CL and we haven't. Shaw was oberpriced but Woodward did what it took to get him, that's what ppl are demanding after all, to act, and he did it.

But I am not expecting any credit for Woodward anyway from the biggest Moyes apologist I have seen on these sites.

Its about location more than anything. I'd say one of the 1st questions we want to find out about a player - is he married with kids etc..?

I love Manchester, but you cant compare with the likes of Spain or mainland Europe for a wife / Gf & kids etc.. Climate is a fantastic option for a players family.

We accomodated Ronnie & some of the other foreign players as best we could, with breaks home etc.. That kept them here, so i'm sure thats on the table for any top-player having doubts.

The Christmas schedule doesnt help in signing top-players also, while all of the top leagues in Europe have a break at that time. But thats what makes Xmas so great in our league..

 yeah, that post was obviously fuelled by my pity for poor David Moyes!
