His job should be split into two roles. He should handle the commercial aspects as he obviously does that well. ANYTHING dealing player transfers/purchases/loans/etc should be handled by someone else. Honestly if no one else comes in this window he needs to be fired and it's clear to me that LvG is subtly saying he has handed in his list and the jobs not getting done. While Ed is good at bringing in commercial contracts I imagine there are plenty of agents who could step into role and do that for us. We need someone who can get deals done quietly and efficiently and that's not Ed.

Ed Woodward is as useful in the transfer market as an ejection seat in a helicopter.

So he's alive..

That guy in the checkered suit must have a time machine. Woody needs to borrow that and go back in time and get a younger version of Fergie, Keane, Rio, Vidic and Scholes.

Don't know about a time machine but he should put Ed Woodward's head on a pin and drive it 400 yards away from Old Trafford.

He needs to be taken out of this role, and simply put in charge of bringing money in. That seems obvious.

Anyone get the feeling that whole MUTV interview with Woody was one massive sale for season tickets?

After all, at the end of the day we are just funding the club, all they needed to do was make a sale.

That's all we are to them, money.

All the season tickets were sold out way before then. Club made an announcement to that fact.

If they try to fool the fans, they might find they are now taking on the wrong people. Money is tight for a lot of people nowadays and people want value for their money. If they feel they are having the last pennies squeezed out of them and getting nothing in return it might not end well. People don't put up with things the way they used to.

wait some people here doesn't think he is to blame at all and last year was all Moyes' fault.

Who knows?

We don't have a director of football, the manager is responsible for transfers.

How are we to know if Woody made all possible attempts to bring in who Moyes wanted?

you're right we dont know, but the facts paint a bleak picture.
i dont want to talk about who we missed out on, but it was clear that we needed an injection of new faces, and so far since woody tool over, we've not really done well have we.

I'm now speculating that Moyes and LGV want more players as both commented on the state of the squad, so we can only assume that somebody higher up is not making it happen.

Right. So your original point was...?

Well my original point was their squad had been sorted before their pre season even started by spending around £80 million, but you went on a tangent on how one deal was being sorted since January for Costa and then used the excuse of van Gaal as why no other deals were concluded, even though we had 2 deals wrapped up during his World Cup. The question is: what was your original point.

This sure as hell doesn't look good for our Ed.

LVG's nailed his colours to the mast, he wants reinforcements and are aware we badly need them.

Woodward will need to deliver those, and I'm not talking about the Daley Blind-calibre of reinforcements.

I think we're about to realize what a scam artist this douche is.

whoa! he is good at making money but not good at spending it... scam artist

We should bring in a director of football who concerns himself with the transfer business and the general state of the squad. Manchester United is such a big organisation with so many facets to run that it is to much for a single excutive to handle. He is the CEO and besides involving him with all these transfers, naturally he has tons of other business to attend to. I think he is a brilliant CEO and the sponsorship deals he has closed and the money he has brought into the club have been excellent, but transferwise it has been disappointing, we should just put somebody else in charge of that. The manager concerns himself with the team, tactics, training sessions and than works together with the director of football on transfers as in he communicates what he needs/wants and the director than tries to get it sorted. Somebody who works 100% on transfer business, negotiating deals, preparing bids, selling and loaning out players, running the scouting network and be in constant contact with the manager on the one hand the CEO on the other hand.

Couldn't agree more

We just lost one game that we didn't need to because of bad planning.
Getting a DOF would negate quite a bit of that risk but the trick is getting ed to sanction a DOF...he clearly thinks he can do it himself and this clearly isn't the case at this point.

He cut it too late with the benatia deal and god only knows what's going on with Vidal.

We needs signings or this season will be worse than last year.

With Moyes you have to consider that he had no pedigree, I can see top players being reluctant to play for him.

I think under sir Alex we had a reputation as a disciplined team where prima donnas aren't much welcome (unless you're irresistible like Ronaldo). I feel some want a guaranteed place in the squad, they want to be pampered.

Neither is van Gaal going to let someone come in and slack, the team is the star, which is sorta like saying van Gaal is the star as he runs the team.

I think that can make bringing in players more difficult as well.

Woodward is testing my faith in his methods. Or maybe he just likes to provoke meltdowns. I am not ready to join the chorus of hate just yet. We can still get this done - we have money, we have needs, we have players to offer in exchange.

And that is why I continue to

I believe there are more than one reasons that explain our inability to sign world class players than simply blaming everything on Woodward. Of course he is a part of the problem but, as far as i know, when all fingers point in one direction there are usually others who get off way too easily. If the transfer stories are true i can only think of two reasons (besides Ed) this is taking too long: a) insufficient funds and b) poor scouting.

Are we sure this 200m warchest really exists? I know that we make way more money from commercial deals than any other PL club but how much of that is really invensted in the first team, considering our debt and that we pay annually around £60m on interst?

You'll argue that Ed himself said that we can sign anyone. Well, there are many reasons why the CEO of a company that's in the stock market says things like that. Truth is that our main rivals have strengthened significantly and have dealt with their managerial issues. Does anyone really think we are willing to spend the same ammount of cash they did now that we are the ones who must build a new team? Imo if the warchest was real and we had the financial muscles to compete with City and Chelsea Gill would still be here.

Assuming that we are into Vidal, why is this taking so long? I can't imagine Woodward called Juventus and said "Hi, this is Ed Woodward speaking, is Vidal available?". Of course he's not available and you must have prepared an offer that will make them sit down and negotiate. Imo there's no such thing as a "value for money" deal for players like Vidal, Hummels and Di Maria, especially when you've gone from 1st to 7th.

Another thing is the lack of alternatives. With the exception of Rojo the players we are linked with have been the same since the start of the transfer period. Whether Woodward is a chocolate tea pot or not it would be nice to know how many names are on LvG's list and how many of them have a chance of getting here this summer. I can't blame him for not getting Hummels. With Barcelona and City searching for a CB this summer it's more than clear that Klopp won't sell him this summer.
