There is nothing wrong with chocolate tea pots. As long as you remember to eat them and don't pour hot water all over them.

Seriously though we were all happy that we brought a manager in who has a track record of ignoring big money signings and promoting from within. Then we slate Woody for not bringing in any big signings.

I'm confident going into the first match of the season.

Sorry mate, I really can't agree with you. Your points are right, but they're very one-sided.

I think you'd be right to question somebody like DM, but we've moved on. We have a manager that isn't just trying a new approach. He's repeating an approach that he's been successful with at different clubs.
LvG always puts the team and the system before individuals. On top of that he doesn't just look at the players' usual position, he's talented at finding alternative, maybe even better positions for players even if they've never played there before. That's why we don't just have 3 defenders in his book. Just for LB he was asked if Shaw missing was a problem, but he said he has good backup in James and Young.

And as far as transfers go, I don't think he'll be bullshitting us. If he doesn't get somebody he wants, we'll hear about it. If he says we can sign a player in 24 hours, I think he means it.

We always seem to have managers who are always happy with the squad and do not want to spend money. Strange

Moyes wasn't happy with the squad.
Moyes was delighted with the squad, and mentioned in almost every interview he gave that we had no need for transfers as we won the league by eleven points. Mind you, he changed his tune once the season kicked off, and results went against us. It was only then that he started talking about "transition" and the need for wholesale squad changes.

I cant believe what I'm seeing here, first game of the season and we have Lingard and Blacket starting. I have no problem with giving youth a go, and I hope they turn out to be great players for us but we shouldn't be in this position, I said earlier that this summer so far as been worst than last summer and I stick with that statement, that starting 11 looks like a league cup team.

No, we weren't. If a club makes lots of money and refuses to spend it, it's going to underachieve.

There is a difference between starting with youth players because they are good enough to start over any senior players, and starting with youth players because we have no other option. Today you have to assume it's because we have no other option.

I'd still expect us to win today but it's pretty worrying to see our line up today. If we don't sign anybody else we're going to really struggle.

Moyes wasn't happy with the squad.

At the end of the Summer transfer market he said he was happy. I guess we manage to find the only managers on earth who would rather play the likes of Ando and Ashley Young then bring some real quality

Alternatively, they may be lying or covering the incompetence of their boss

Well Woody we did "watch this space" and we lost. Wake up and sign the quality the team needs to compete.

Quite.

Just pay what they want for Di Maria and Vidal.

I don't care if we overpay by £5m. We need world class players otherwise failing not to sign these players will mean no champions league and losing sponsorship deals.

Hey Ed, guess who's going to get insane amounts of shit ( just look at Ashley ) if you don't do some magic in upcoming days.

I raised this point at some point in mid summer and got shot down because apparently 'you don't pay what the selling club wants, you bargain' and I was being ridiculous, but the reality is if we want the best players, we have to be prepared to pay what they want otherwise they won't be sold. Clubs don't bargain with the best players in the world. I'm with you on this.

LvG pre-match mentioned the prices going up if he happens to mention names.

Clearly this is going to be a last minute assault with take it or leave it prices and this will backfire big time when the clubs elect for leaving it. Ed could well look a bigger idiot than last year and regardless of those that are foolishly optimistic, the squad is weaker than last summer, despite a temporary self belief. Anything other than a couple of serious wins, back to back will see heads drop.

he is completely & utterly useless, we need another 6 players just to come top four so if he isn't signing left, right & centre over the next 2 weeks he should be sacked.

This guy needs to pull his finger out big time.

This thread is going to be a hive of activity this week, with or without players coming in.

Why can everyone see the squad is not up to standard apart from the people that matter the most and people who get paid so many million a year to know this (chairman and manager)?

We finished 7th last year, got an long term injury to a key player (Carrick) which we've known about for a while, but failed to address, 5 players gone and only brought 2 brought in, 1 of whom is a teenager, it's just incompetence and we deserve everything we get.

Nothing has been made to improve the 7th place, so I don't see this squad with this management reach better results

Maybe with a second year in a row without champions league the glazers will wake up

Wake up or run away?

Is there any chance they'd leave?

I can't quite believe we have only signed 2 players so far after all the departures and our result last year.
Get your ass up and do sth Ed.

Fat chance of that happening with hundreds of millions worth coming from Adidas and Chevrolet...

Can we reopen the poll to see if the vote is different now?

Ed has a couple of weeks to make up for the disaster of a transfer window(s) his had!!!

Van Gaal said himself we won't win the title with the squad we have alone, and said that it's unbalanced, which contradicts with his goal of first place finish, so I fully expect to see some signings before the window closes. Otherwise Woodward has failed.

Not now but unless Ed brings 3 quality players within 2 weeks left, no way he can redeem himself after those stupid statements.
The man shite sponspor deal left right and centre, I can't believe he could fail miserably when it comes to player transfer.

Wasn´t one of them Glazers in the croud today? He looked like someone from a Coen Brothers movie, bald but with a pony-tail and all.

Yes, one of the Glazers was there.

If you ask me, I wish more people at OT were ready to give the dog's abuse to those SOBs because they will only understand how bad things are going when fans start attacking them from up close, especially if it's physical abuse.

edit: I'm glad David May joined his voice to those who rightfully want to crucify Ed Woodward. I wouldn't give Woodward 2 weeks, but only this week to de-crucify himself.

Meet Edward Woodward's bosses:

Literally no-one who has some power in/over our precious club has a clue what makes a good football player. And people are wondering why we fail to bring in better players?

I've avoided weighing in on this thread as none of us really have clue what goes on behind the scenes. However, at the end of the day we are one of the biggest clubs in the world, with plenty of money in the bank. Given those two premises it simply shouldn't be the case that the manager has a squad he isn't fully happy with. Something is wrong if that is the case and it appears that it might well be.
