Winter Olympics 2010 Vancouver

There is a lot of talk today about the Swedish tactics yesterday and the fact that Hellner broke Northugs pole. I see some Noggie journalists and skiiers and Bauer are out talking.

Sore loser syndrome IMO. I'm glad to see that our trainers and leaders aren't among them. Sweden did a hell of a job yesterday on the 30km, and the fact that they had three riders who managed to follow the impressive tempo Bauer held for the first 15 is incredible. Petter was our only one. Like Vincent Vittoz said: "It was the only way to beat Northug".

Personally I think Hellner is a good guy, and there is no way he broke Northugs pole on purpose. Not sure if that even is possible. I'm extremely disappointed with the fact that only Petter managed to hang on on the classic part - a discipline we should be the best in the world at.

We'll never know what would have happened if Petter hadn't broken his pole. He was in a perfect position when that happened and he has yet to lose a sprint fromt that position. But I'm not sure he had the legs yesterday, even with the pole break he should have been able to close the gap. He is that much faster than everyone else.

I don't think Northug is in top shape for these Olympics, but that is something he'll never admit. Now fingers crossed that he gets a gold medal at the 50km. Bauer was not as impressive yesterday as I thought, so he might have a chance.

Sweden are now favourites for the relay IMO.

Also, nice to see Bøkko get a bronze in the 1500m. Well deserved.

I agree with Ruben, the swedes did a top job yesterday.

Super Sunday !!!

Going into the last 3 games of prelims, the quarterfinals are as listed:

Finland vs (Switzerland - Belarus)
USA vs (Russia - Norway)
Czech Republic vs (Slovakia - Germany)
Sweden vs (Canada - Latvia)

Of course the teams in bold are still to play, alot can change, GD is important as can be so there's not alot of brake pedal for these last few games.

Thanks to the three-point games that can deliver a combination of 0, 1, 2 or 3 points to either team, there is a wonderful array of scenarios that can still happen. Including:

• Canada could grab the first seed, or they could finish as low as sixth and draw the 11 seed in the qualifying round.
• Russia can't win the table, but they can still earn a bye -- or they can finish as low as seventh and draw a decent qualifying round opponent.
• How ready am I for Czech Republic-Russia? Very ready. A totally unexpected surge of misplaced ethnic pride -- and it's not even the knock-out stage yet. Pilsner Urquell and Budvar will be flowing. But the Russians may have gotten their wakeup call. Evgeni Nabokov gets the call in net; I forget, how does he do in high-stakes situations?
• By playing the U.S. and Canada strong and defeating Norway in an OT thriller, Switzerland likely has a qualifying draw they should win.
• The U.S. could do as well as grab the first seed, or as bad as missing out on a bye by landing in fifth or sixth place. They can still have a bye if they lose, but they'd need the Finns and Czechs to win outright.
• Latvia is toast, period. What an awful tournament for them, and (unless Belarus or Germany beats the other by 8 or so goals) they'll draw the toughest qualifying round opponent.

Super Sunday Schedule with North American viewage

• Russia-Czech Republic: 3 p.m. EST | NBC/TSN/V

• USA-Canada: 7:40 EST | MSNBC/CTV/Omni 1/2

• Finland-Sweden: Midnight, EST | MSNBC/CTV

Yesterday was very anticlimactic, I really thought Jacobsen would fight for silver. Tonight could be epic though.

feck I missed everything yesterday, I was warming up for Super Sunday:D

So there's 1 hour and 40 minutes until there's something Norwegian to watch on TV?

Thanks for that, Searl. The USA - Canada game will be dynamite. Really looking forward to that. I don't really watch hockey, but it has really caught my eye during these Olympic games. The Norway - Switzerland game was nervewrecking, awesome and a bit gutting in the end. But a great game nevertheless. Shame the Finland - Sweden game is at stupid o'clock (here in Norway atleast). I might have to set an alarm for that one!

Speaking of football, has there been made a new tippeliga-thread?

Putting the Sweden - Finland game on at 6 am is just cruel. I imagine a lot of people will call in sick tomorrow.

What a great day (night) of hockey though! I really hope Sweden wins to get the bye.

Stockholm is frozen anyway literally. fecking chaos heard that it will be -20 tomorrow...

Aksels downhill was fantastic.

Could very well be a medal for him today as well.

Half a second on Carla and Defago-

Never gave it a sniff but watching now and it's pretty cool, going to be fun to watch it with 4 guys going on the same track

I watched the boarder cross on tuesday and it was joke...It's a proper race, no against the clock business...and in the X games it was 6 people, but they've reduced it to get into the olympics...best events in the games for me. Gladiatorial stuff

Hanevold is also up there, wouldn't it be great if he managed to get a medal?

I wouldn't normally put a bad race by Bjørndalen down to nerves but in these Olympics... I don't know, I just think he wants it too much and can't perform at his best.
