Wimbledon

It's just typical of the self important twattishness that embodies the sport and everyone who represents it.

"Those pigeons might distract me slightly, have them shot"

How about instead, you fecking grow up, and pull your head out of your arsehole?

I agree that it's not right, but that's a daft statement. Not every person involved in tennis is for animal cruelty. In fact, Old Trafford(and all football grounds) has pretty stringent pest control measures. You seem to have no problem with that. Is that because you actually appreciate football as a sport and you don't like tennis? Seems a pretty convoluted argument to me either way.

I don't like tennis, and everytime I see a tennis player interviewed, they come across as a complete knob

That's as good a reason as any.

It's obviously not ok to just start shooting pigeons for such a stupid fecking reason though.

Oh good. There was me thinking you might have an illogical argument.;)

And of course it's not okay to start shooting pigeons, especially to facilitate a sporting event(unless of course the sport is clay-pigeon shooting). Can't imagine you'd find any arguments on that score.

It's not even to facilitate it though, as they could do that easily without even worrying about the pigeons. It's simply because people find them slightly annoying.

It wasn't really. It was an incredibly poor match. I don't even remember a good rally. Noval stunk badly.

Did you see him in the interview afterwards?

I've honestly never seen him so down, but credit to the lad, he didn't make any excuses, even when the interviewer offered him one (the wind ), he just admitted that he was crap, and Safin was far far better.

You're making it sounds as if all tennis fans would want those birds destroyed due to the annoyance factor. Which plainly isn't true. The tournament officials made that decision. Not the fans or the players. Clearly it is the wrong one. And the fact you find tennis players to be knobends worries me knowing you are a football fan. Give me an interview from a tennis player any day. They are more articulate, more mannerly, and in a lot of cases, seem to have a brain in their heads.

Good games today. Surprised to see Djokovic go out, but in some ways I think it'll do him good and keep his feet on the ground. I still can't decide whether I like him or not, but I do respect his tennis and so I'd like to see him develop more. Too much too early might be a problem and this exit is stopping that from happening, at least.

Ivanovic almost joined him after her first Slam at the French, too, only just scraping through her own match. An incredibly lucky net shot on Dechy's match point is the only thing that stopped that happening, and then she took four match points of her own in the third to actually clinch it. It would have suprised no one who watched that match if Dechy had won it.

And, as expected, Federer blasted past Soderling. He might have been having a poor year by his standards, beaten in the semis in Australia, absolutely battered in the final of the French, but you stick him on grass and his form is irrelevant. He's just unstoppable.

Sad thing is the semi-finals will probably suck now. I was looking forward to some awesome games between Federer and Davydenko, and Nadal and Djokovic, with an epic final in there too. Sadly I think it's just a Federer / Nadal final I have to look forward to since both Djokovic and Davydenko's challenges met surprisingly early ends.

It was going to be Djokovic-Fed semi. Now Fed will just batter Hewitt in round of 16 and probably face Nalbandian in semis.

Killing pigeons because they interfere with Wimbledon is ridiculous.

Killing them because they are annoying, disease carrying, shitting machines is a much better reason. Seagulls should be next on the list. Especially the ones who stand on one leg*

* I quite like the ones who stand on one leg due to the other one being mangled.

Nalbandian is so annoying. Besides Safin and Nadal, he is the only player I've seen who can actually batter Federer when they have a good day and he goes out in the first round because his beer gut is too heavy to run with.

Really hope Safin maintains his level throughout this tournament. He was outstanding yesterday. Along with Nadal, he's the only one with a prayer of defeating Federer.

Exactly. They finally start doing somethig useful, so people decide to shoot them.

A better solution would be to cancel Wimbledon. Forever

Venus Williams is looking poor today. Unforced error after error.

What's the craic lads??

Nadal getting a game here. Not looking comfortable

Only just got watching it, but Gulbis has some forehand. Nadal has to work to stop him running around the ball for the angled forehand.

First set to Gulbis. Bet thing that could have happened to the match as a spectacle.

You can get Nadal at 1/2 at some places now after the first set. Might get on it, cant see him not responding.

I remember watching Gulbis at the French and the Eurosport Commentator saying then that he was a star in the making.

He was playing Blake and I put a massive bet on him. Has alot to his game and if he just tidies up the mistakes he will so well

Yeah, I saw that game aswell. He's one of those very naturally talented players who has to figure out how to harness it all. He's wild though, isn't he Baz? He has the shots, and the physical power, but all he seems to want to do is thump the ball. He should be pressuring Nadal at the net a bit more, give him something to think about. Nadal will likely streak away with this now.

Said it in one Brophs - Naturally gifted but needs harnessed

Looking at him Gulbis reminds me a lot of Safin in his younger days. He has to learn what shots to go for, he's giving Nadal a lot of easy points. This game would be a real problem for Nadal if he wasn't getting so many gimmes.

Gulbis looks like a fantastic prospect. Needs to be more patient and improve his shot selection but that will come with experience.

I think we should keep an eye out for that Gulbis in US Open and the tournaments running up to it. Is something special and only 19 still. If he was able to get the stupid errors out of his game he would be excellent.

Will certainly be looking at this lad in future. You cann't say Nadal played bad in that game. Gulbis was all over him in 2 of the 4 sets
