Wimbledon 2015

This is true and very good points, but I think it's generally regarded that women's tennis in recent years has been at least more competitive, quality aside the competition makes it even more impressive that Serena has dominated, including her own sister who has won 12 slams herself and I don't think gets as much credit for her achievements and that's because of Serena plus players like Sharapova & JHH.
And for me that's what makes it greater That Serena has achieved what she has

Ya it is competitive but at a level well below Serena. It is more of somewhat above average bunch together. Probably Azarenka and Sharapova are bit above others. Still, an amazing and special player and without her this era would have been lot less quality.

Men's current era you can say is highly competitive in that, the top 3 are among all time greats and then likes of Murray and Wawrinka have done incredibly well to still nick couple of slams and that too by beating the big 3 in finals, not thanks to upsets elsewhere. The likes of Ferrer would have surely won 1-2 slams in the 90s men's tennis.

They're champions and have been doing this for 20 odd years.
There's trophies, championships, records and history to play for.
Plus their fashion interests aren't exactly setting the fashion world alight.

Federer is older than Serena, has won more and is more adored yet there's little talk about him retiring, nor does he look like he wants to retire.

So when Serena is still dominant why would she give up?

Federer has something to play for as does Serena. In his case, he wants to win another Wimbledon to break the tie with Sampras, and in hers there is the Calendar year slam. Once they achieve those, mark my words, they will quickly fade into retirement. Tennis players simply don't have much left in their tank once they hit their mid 30s.

I just remembered Seles as the girl who made that funny sound and watched her play Graf as a kid.

Just read that she had 8 grandslam titles before turning 20. The feck

Ya, I was big fan of Graf as a kid (and hence bias towards her :p) and was very irritated with Seles dominating Graf for a certain period. Seles was amazing. Could have been among the best ever. Some nutter spoiled what could have been a great career and rivalry :(

Graf-Serena careers are somewhat a pattern of slams in competitive era+some loading up in uncompetitive one. Graf won slams by beating likes of Navratilova and Seles earlier in her career and then loaded up later when only Arantxa was a serious competitor. When she retired, Davenport and Hingis were upcoming and it would have been nice to see her more against them but she ahd her moments against them too.
Serena won her share during Venus's great years, when JHH, Clijsters and Davenport was there and now is loading up when she is at a different level to others. Who is better among those two will always be a debate.

Imagine what Seles could have achieved had she not heen stabbed. 8 at 19. Incredible.

Agonizing to see Muguruza break Williams twice to get it back to 5-4 from 5-1 and then bottle the service game. Still, Williams is just a machine.

I can't wait for tomorrow  Hoping for a 5 setter, my my wee heart would still love a Federer 3-0. Desperately want to see him one more Wimbledon.

I don't see Serena or Federer retiring anytime soon. Both these players need no more motivation to play tennis except tennis itself. They, like Messi for example, truly love what they do and will continue to play until they are no longer competitive. That should be for a while longer yet.

Really looking forward to tomorrow's final. Should be a great one.

Might not be the case anymore. This era players have been peaking later. You do not see teenagers winning grand slams anymore.

I thought this was going to be a quick one but ive been here for 2 hrs now. Its been an epic. Hingis serving for the title.

She can't help her build, genetically black people have greater muscle density in comparison to white people you see this in Athletics particularly.

It's just disgusting that people choose to call her manly, compare her to animals and she should play the men's tennis.

It's not just about the amount of titles, it's who's she's overcome to achieve those titles.
So many women's champions have come and gone but yet Serena is still the best even in this new generation.
But again that's my opinion.
It's a nonsensical article. Serena Williams is amazing - they try so hard to demean black women by rejecting their bodies and placing them outside of their zone. Good to see so many people reject their racist stereotype. If people weren't jealous, they would see how important her story is. It should be celebrated. If I was a tennis player, I'd be looking to emulate her style, or something of that sort. I know what Sharapova is doing though:
“I can’t handle lifting more than five pounds,” Sharapova said. “It’s just annoying, and it’s just too much hard work. And for my sport, I just feel like it’s unnecessary.”

I completely agree. The Daily Fail decided to print this, wonderfully subtle paragraph;
"Williams, 33, is the more physically powerful, with a ferocious temper and the mindset of a battling champion. However, she cannot compete with Sharapova’s media-friendly combination of blonde Siberian beauty and sponsor-friendly image control"

She can't compete with Sharapova's looks because she's blonde, friendly and the European standard of beauty.

Because even in women's sport, looks, above all us still matters, it's both racist and sexist at the same time, but it's no surprise.

And they'll still call her manly, and say she's on steroids, and she should be playing with the men etc. because they want to dehumanise a successful black woman at the top of her game, rather than praise her.
She's the definition of a champion.

Serena cannot compete with Sharapova despite beating her in 18 of their 20 meetings or whatever it is. She is phenomenal and hopes she wins the US Open to complete the calendar slam. Would be a fitting way to equal Graf's majors record.

novak will be getting the steroids out after the first set at this rate.

Really hope Federer can do it but I'm going for Djokovic in 4. Hopefully the rain stays away.

What's Djokovic's record in grandslam finals? Can't be great?

5-0 in Australia
2-1 Wimbledon
0-3 French
1-4 in US
