Wimbledon 2015

He needs it. I'm not sure he can win it if becomes a very long match.

I truly agree. Hes been pretty much flawless up until this point. Federer winning Wimbledon and then retiring would be something special (though he probably feels like he doesnt need to retire playing like that aha)

If Roger plays like that in the final then he wins. But I touched on it earlier, he has struggled to win two big matches consecutively in recent years.

Has that generally been after he's played a fiver set match though? Because for all Murray made it close at times they weren't on court that long.

I'd lose my shit if he won it. I don't want to raise my expectations. Anyone else he was facing and I'd be confident but Djokovic looks in peak shape and form right now.

Looking at them shaking hands at the net, Murray looks absolutely knackered, and Federer looks like he's just been watching breaking bad sat on his couch all afternoon.

Not too sure on the specifics, to be honest. You're right about court time. Just over two hours and a very comprehensive win in the end. The last time Federer reached a Slam semi was last year's US Open (I think) and he'd just come through a heavy five setter against Monfils, to get hammered by Cilic. You could be right.

He lost in the semi to wawrinka in the French this year if I'm not mistaken.

Never really been in to Tennis but I've watched quite a bit of this years Wimbledon. I never imagined it could be this entertaining and tense, I think I'm a fan.

Federer's matches tend to be brilliant, he's a brilliant tennis player, the likes of Murray and Djokovic might be better athletes than him now, but in terms of technique, he still runs lap around every other player.

I don't think Murray could have played better, he was probably at 100%.

When Federer can produce those aces and service winners on demand, he's so unstoppable.

Apart from losing his serve 3 times, he's basically done nothing wrong in this game, Federer was just on a whole different level.

Me too. I've watched every match I can of his for as long as I can remember and I've never been less bothered at a big loss. He isn't good enough to beat that Federer, it's as simple as that.
Yeah when Federer gets in full gear with his backhand and serve firing there's not much you can do.

Murray showed great mental strength in that game in the second set for example. He didn't have a bad run of games or anything.

Really hope Federer doesn't retire any time soon. He may not be a top top player in some time but if he's lucky with respect to injuries he can probably at least be a top 10 player for sometime. If the courts were quicker he could have been a top player for much longer the way he's going.

Truly sublime performance by Federer today. Really makes me smile to see that level of tennis being played. As said by others, Murray played really well. He was over 70% on his first serve, was good in the baseline rallies, really only had a few lapses at the end of each set but that was enough. If Fed plays like that in the final it should be an amazing match vs Djokovic. I like Djokovic but I'd love to see Federer win his 18th as well.

I am a huge Rafa fan but that was some of the best Tennis I have seen anyone ever play, it says something that I think Murray deserves credit for making a match of it because no one on tour can beat that Federer. I am not sure if people will win more slams in future or if he is better than players from previous eras but I don't think Tennis will ever have another player as complete as Roger Federer.

Different sport but he reminds me lots of Ronnie O'Sullivan's comeback in the 2011 World Championships. Clearly the most talented player who has ever lived but who nobody really believes will be able to get it together again. Hopefully we'll have a similar end results, Federer seems to be playing a different game sometimes.

Djokovic might.

I just hope Federer can play like that.

Perhaps. But Federer just isn't letting anyone into his service games. The pressure its putting on his opponents is unreal. He even 2nd served an ace today, against arguably the best returner in the game. He keeps that up & he'll be winning an 8th (& record breaking) Wimbledon title imo.

Fed played better today than I've seen in years. I don't think he can play that great two games in a row, but we can hope!!

I can't see him playing that well twice in a row, much less against Djokovic. The speed with which Djokovic switches defence to attack also might make it difficult to dominate the net like today.

Really hope Fedz plays like that again on Sunday. Highlight reel today. Unbelievable tennis against a Murray who didn't really do much wrong.

Such a joy to watch. A sporting genius.

Federer was just amazing. I thought Murray played quite well, but that was vintage Fed. His serving has been astounding. If that holds up in the final then I think he wins. I don't think anyone would have beaten Fed, except maybe Nadal (purely because of the way they match-up) and peak Novak.

I really hope Fed can back it up. It will be disappointing if he knocks out Murray playing like that and then loses his serving dominance in the final. The fact it was only three sets should help him though; he wouldn't be overly fatigued. It's hard to pick against Djokovic because he is so consistent, despite Federer clearly playing the better tennis to this point. I want to say Fed in four...have a feeling it will be Djokovic in five though.

Federer is just a superior ball striker than Murray in every sense and it showed once again.. his game craft and his ability to get onto the ball that step quicker, strike it with effortless power and demonstrate a higher level of precision was decisive. Mentally a superior player too.. basically Fed in half decent form will always be too much for Murray on any surface as the latter is too clumsy and his ball striking technique too half baked to compete.

Fed plays at a higher speed and Murray looked like he was playing catch up through out, putting out fires here there and everywhere. Its a shame because Murray is my favourite player but he is a class below Federer and there is no shame in admitting that.

Djokovic is a different proposition, he does have that higher level technique, movement and mentality to mix it with the likes of Fed and Nadal at their pomp.. Should be a close game on Sunday, I want Federer to win but he isn't going to find it as easy thats for sure.. I don't think Djokovic has shown his best tennis here yet apart from those comeback sets v Anderson.

Will be interesting to see if Federer can serve that well against the greatest returner of all time in the final. That will be the key.

No doubt Federer played the better tennis technically and tactically, but the decisive factor in the game was undoubtedly the difference in mentality for me. Federer's ice cold. Murray choked when the pressure was on in the key moment in each set. I'm very glad he did too...he won me a very nice sum of money by being predictably fragile :D

He definitely can. He beat him in 2012 in the semis after all. And his serve was key then as well. But Djokovic has to be the favourite if it's a long match which you'd think it would be against the number 1 ranked player.

Just round to watching the match after being out all day yesterday....and wow!. Federer was incredible. Just absolutely faultless. Surely the best he's played since his pomp?

Bagged 2 tickets for the final via Ticketmaster (at precisely 09:00:00!).

If it rains (as is expected), do they shut the roof and play?
ps. Like Djok, hopefully he does it...
