Wimbledon 2015

Two games? You mean two points? It goes 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1 etc...... Does it not? That is a tie-break.
Yes but the point is that in the final set of a grand slam tournament it cannot go to a tie-break. They have to keep playing normal games until one player is 2 games ahead. Hence that crazy game at Wimbledon a few years ago where the final set when to something like 59-57 games.

People don't like the screeching after points, which Watson certainly doesn't do. Everybody hates the grunting/shouting during points, but that's universally done in women's tennis.

Also, just shown a replay I forgot about, Watson throwing her arms up after winning a game as if to say "COME ON MAKE SOME NOISE" celebrating that game.

Now that's just rude

Not in grand slam final sets, it always just keeps continuing because they felt the tie break was quite unfair for deciding a match in a grand slam.

They do have tie breaks, but in undeciding sets, and I think they still use them in tour to decide matches.

Except the U.S. Open.

I thought it went 1-0 rather than 15-love until someone won via two clear points rather than games.....

In a tie break. You can't get a tie break when it's the final set.

I'm still a little lost here. When do tie-breaks occur then? No-way that game mentioned, the 59-57 was games i.e 4 clear points, 15/30/40/game to love rather than 1/2/3/59 to 57. That would take days....

And it did

tie breaks for men in grand slams can be in set 1, 2, 3 and 4, but not set 5 (the set which would decide a game at 2-2 in sets)
Same for women, sets 1 and 2 can have tie breaks, but set 3 cannot for the reasons mentioned above.

Also... the crazy match... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isner–Mahut_match_at_the_2010_Wimbledon_Championships

Hell of a match from Watson. Shame she couldnt close it out, but she stood toe to toe with Williams. That first set unfortunately was just a give away.

Watson should take a lot from that. Fantastic performance.

Tie breaks would occur at the end of any set where someone can't win the match. If it's a deciding set then they keep playing games until someone wins by 2 clear games.

The Isner-Mahut game ended up 70-68 in the final set and lasted 11 hours. The final set lasted 8 hours.

Aye, I'm with it now. Not sure why I thought the decider went to that, bit of a brainfart. That is quite the decider between those two, doubt that will ever be bettered throughout the course of history.

Incredible mental strength from Serena in that final set, fine example of why she's such a great player. Venus vs Serena should be great in the next round - Serena said herself that Venus is in better form, imagine if Venus is the one to end the chances of a Serena slam...

Cilic vs Isner going to a fifth set, unsurprisingly.

Was that the match of the tournament so far then for you folks or the Brown v Nadal match?
Still Brown v Nadal mainly because some of the stuff Brown tried was insane(Not good insane but pure insanity). Hitting the 2nd server as hard as the 1st for the whole game, 99 times he ran to the net, the countless drop shots.

Although I think the Watson vs Williams was more competitive,as good as Brown was(He was pretty brilliant)Nadal was so poor.

@Giggsy92 I'm not a Serena fan but the hate she get's is really over the top.

A quote from Watson...

"I am disappointed that I did not achieve my goal of making the second week of a Grand Slam. But I was super, super close and after the second set I played very smart."

Some goal that

Given how Watson is still relatively young, and British women dont tend to make second weeks, thats not a bad goal tbh.

Also Serena has to go down as arguably the best womans player of all time, surely? Esp if she wins Wimbledon this year.

I say that was match of tournament because it was more competitive in terms of a match (back and forth) especially after the first set where it didnt look like it would go that way. Whilst Nadal was upset, I didnt think it had the same competitive feel as this one (that sounds fecked when I read it back, and its hard to explain, but I mean in terms of back and forth in games and who was going to win).

Still Nadal/Brown for me

Yeah, that is the game of the tourney for me too. Never even heard of him before and he was like the thunder and lightning waiting to pounce on the sun and he came in like a storm. Haha, those second serves were mental. 99 times at the net too

Heather v Serena was also a great game. Serena with all the power she has from the baseline and how the little quaint Heather more than matched her was quite the feat. Some great play from both of them but ultimately the warrior that is Serena came out on top. Still, best women's game I've watched ever.

Isner/Cilic going to a long, drawn out, decider was inevitable wasn't it?

Watson is going to be the nation's darling for quite a while after that performance, and quite rightly so. You could see how much it took out of Serena by how emotional she was at the end, and she is by far the best female tennis player in the world.

I think she was our darling going into the tournament, wasn't she out injured for quite some time and only recently came back?

She was 2 games away from knocking out Serena Williams tonight, as you say, the world's best.

Absolutely gutted for Heather.

The whinging in the media about Kyrgios is irritating. They complain about the lack of characters and personalities and now it's the opposite. A great talent who likes to wind up a few people and doesn't take a lot of shit and he's a spoiled brat etc. Hope he goes far again.

Raste hero Dustin Brown in action against Troicki right now. :)

Decent start, putting pressure on the serve there.

I can't help but think that today is the day we see him return to his normal level and it goes wrong though. Hopefully I'm wrong!

Given the two matches, I think this is his normal level against Nadal. He's not afraid of the big name and his game is like poison to Nadal on grass.

Insane drop shot return. Ball bounced back over the net. On a RETURN!

 He's a lunatic. What a shot

The highlight reel of this one will look very tasty indeed.

Feck. That's what happens though when you play his brand of tennis and you're not in fine form

Hasn't graf got more grand slams?

Serena's competition is a joke. The fact that she is winning so many Slams after turning 30 and doing it so easily sometimes speaks volumes. It's not that she got better, but that there's just no player left that can reliably challenge her. Just a bunch of fluctuating baseline bruisers.
