...what? Why?
I guess for the same reasons women tend not to earn the same as men in every other sport.
...what? Why?
Wasn't he the very first one who she thanked?
Some of the remarks in here particularly the bitterly repetitive nature of them are out of order.
Because the men put more effort in. How can women earn what they earn for an hours knock around and some men's matches can last over four hours. If they made women's matches the same, so be it.
I don't understand why female tennis players don't play 5 sets. The pros are more than capable of it, especially if they trained for it.
Boris Becker jinxed Lisicki, he took her to the winners board and asked her about having her name on it.
I can't believe Bartoli gets £1.4m for that. And either Murray or Djokovic get the same tomorrow for a possible 5 hour 5 setter.
It's the difference in serving. Men's serves usually result in much shorter points which is why they can finish a best of five in the same time as women finish a best of three.I don't understand why female tennis players don't play 5 sets. Love how you mention what Bartoli gets as being unjust but make no mention of Lisicki's earnings. Bet she completely deserves every last penny as opposed to big bad Bartoli?
Anyway I don't have any problems with them getting the same money. The winners may get obscene totals but for a lot of the smaller players it's probably already a struggle to get by sometimes and having their winnings reduced wouldn't help that. Not their fault they don't play 5 sets.

For me the main argument against equal prize money is that the men's competition brings in more revenue. Not that I give a shit, it just makes me laugh when people get in a state when somebody expresses an opinion that female tennis players shouldn't get equal prize money, as if they'd just said something like female teachers or doctors shouldn't earn the same as men. The thing with sport and prize money is that men and women aren't doing the same job. They compete in separate tournaments and there's no more reason why men and women in tennis should receive equal prize money than there is for any other sport.
Bartoli beat nobody on the way to the final and got a huge helping hand to win the thing from Lisicki having a meltdown. Lisicki took out most of the best players in the tournament, so she certainly deserves whatever money she gets.

That is just retarded.Bartoli beat nobody on the way to the final and got a huge helping hand to win the thing from Lisicki having a meltdown. Lisicki took out most of the best players in the tournament, so she certainly deserves whatever money she gets.
Are you a female tennis player? Do you know how much effort they put in to training and preparation? Have you given up having children and a real life in your 20s?
Just like Bartoli took out Henin in 2007 and froze up in the final then...
She was probably determined not to let that happen again. Maybe Lisicki will learn a lot from this.
Of course not, but if they put in the same amount of training then surely they could play the same amount of sets. I have a little boy and have to work. I would love to be able to travel all over the world playing tennis.
The tournament is geared to be more male-centric to begin with. The schedule is set to give more attention to male players. Also I don't really see why you think they could play the same amount of sets just because they train as hard, women's anatomy is different.
Edit: also I'm willing to be that Serena Williams could beat Andy Murray with ease over 5 sets so as others have said, it's not their fault.

Bartoli may have won Wimbledon, but Lisicki is the true champion today. Lost the tennis, but won our hearts.
