Wimbledon 2013

Watching Raonic's match. He is hitting the net so much on every type of shot it is quite incredible.

It'd be really frustrating if people did start saying that. The fact is that Murray can only beat the opponents put in front of him and the chances are that while he's got a good draw to the final, he's either going to come up against Djokovic or another really challenging opponent like Berdych or Ferrer.

He can't play Berdych or Ferrer, they are in the top section. i.e. Djokovic's section which he'll win.

Murray would have beaten Tsonga and Fed anyway. He's just a better player than both of them. People are just bitter because Murray is a world class player and practically guarantees semi-finals at least in every Slam no matter his draw.

Well said. Murray has been reaching Slam finals for ages now, and that's with all the top guys in the draw and he and Djokovic will be contesting Slam finals for years to come. If Murray does beat Djokovic as I suspect he will then he'd be the best player in the world for me, even though the rankings would not show it.

Just heard on the radio that they are deciding whether to put Laura in Centre Court under the roof, 8 o'clock start in theory.

If she can feed off the atmosphere in there it'll be one to watch and at prime time too.

Jonathan Overend, BBC Radio 5 live
"It just been announced there will be no further play on all the other courts. And I've also just been told by Wimbledon officials that there is no chance that the Laura Robson and Mariana Duque-Marino match will be moved to Centre Court under the roof tonight."

Jesus Christ she looks like a really old lady - you'd probably shag her to bits (literally).

A lil cougar wouldn't be too bad...McCoist has probably destroyed any semblance of a snatch backstage on Question of Sport

Nice to see Patrick Swayze doing a bit of pre-match analysis.

Looked like an increasingly assured and convincing display from Laura even if she doubted it in her interview afterwards somewhat.

Likely to play tomorrow and doubles later weather permitting.

Played well today after a shaky start, did well to win that first set and walked through the second. Mentally strong on such a big stage today.

Tommy Robredo on center court. A sign of how many star names have dropped out so far.

Cundy and Gough attempting to start some sort of Laura Robson to win Wimbledon bandwagon. Ignorant people who would do more harm than good with such pressure should know when to STFU. I'm off back to Fivelive for some rationality and Murray's second set.

Looking at the weather into next week conditions are predicted to be mild and dry, no really bad days anyway.

The covers are off on the outside courts, play to recommence with maybe another 75 minutes of play left this evening.

Murray and Bartoli both just through in straight sets.

Kvitova leading by one set and up by a break over on Court 1.

Robredo played well then, Murray coasting along nicely. Ideal match for him. Everything is looking perfect.

Murray v Janowicz is going to be his only real threat to the final. I cannot stress enough how good Janowicz looked against Almagro. It was genuinely future slam winner stuff. 30 aces. 60 winners. 15 unforced errors. I think he has potential to be better than Berdych at least, who has reached Slam finals in the past. Saying that, I do expect Murray to come through it in 4 very close sets, or 5 at a push. He's just a phenomenal player and after all the talk of "is murray really part of the big 4?" this time last year, he has kicked on massively and now delivers slam after slam. I still don't think he's as strong as Nadal or Federer mentally, and Djokovic is on an even higher level in that regard.

He's really managed to find an excellent level of consistency in the slams. He was always fairly consistent in that you could generally rely on him to reach the latter stages of them, but if he gets to this final then that's him been to the final in the last 4 grand slams he's competed in, which is absolutely superb.

There definitely are questions regarding him mentally in the big slams, but he's certainly started to address them. After the Olympics when he destroyed Federer, he seemed so much more mentally stronger and to win the US Open after Djokovic's comeback showed how much stronger he's become. Before, he would've crashed in that final set. This will be very telling though. Since his win he's been in one final and has lost, which is hardly a crime when you consider he was against Djokovic, but 2 in a row and the questions will really start to come up again, especially if he doesn't turn up for the final or throws it away.

Janowicz looked superb today but the question will be whether he's capable of replicating that. You see so many players who will pull one or two matches out of the bag with some brilliant tennis but then crumble once they come up against a big name. After today though, there's certainly a chance that he could pose a threat.

It's brilliant. With Henman you always felt there was a feck up or monumental battle with a journeyman in most rounds. With Murray it's "how many games will the opponent manage" with absolutely no danger or belief that he'll lose. As for Janowicz, I haven't seen any young player play as good as that for quite some time. Outrageous hitting. Raonic, Tomic, Harrison... all flattering to deceive so far. Dimitrov got that one impressive win against Djokovic but the jury is still out on him. But yeah, there's always a chance Janowicz will now proceed to get dumped out in the next round and post flaky results for the rest of the year. I hope this isn't the case and he goes on and has a good run in the tournament. Tennis needs new blood coming though to challenge the top 4. Ferrer, Berdych et al just don't quite cut it. Del Potro looked like he would but has had a strange couple of years, hope he has a good run in the event as well and doesn't get dumped in straights by Djok.

Yeah he seems like a really good player and he was excellent today. I've not really seen too much of him though so I'll need to see him play more before judging whether he's just a good player who was having an excellent game, or if he's really the type of player who could pose a threat to some of the top players.

Del Potro I think has largely been held back by injuries. After he won the US Open a few years back I was hoping he'd make a bit of a surge and really make it interesting and create a sort of top 5, but he's definitely been held back by injuries which is a shame as he's the sort of player who could have really pushed on after his first GS win.

It's a bit of a double edged sword with the big players. On one hand, it'd be great to see a final between two smaller players because it'd be different and unique in a way, but the big 4 are the best because of how good they are and that means they generally always produce superb matches against each other. The emergence of Murray as a GS winner has made it more interesting though. Before, you had 3 players who won them with one who could trouble them and get to some finals, but at Wimbledon this year we went in with 4 contenders who were fairly equal when it came to who was most likely to win.

Nick, do you work for Reuters or AP?

No, the closest i ever came to that would be work experience in a press office and that didn't end overly well. lol

Probably a case of too much time and the extent of the BBC's coverage. At the Olympics last year and Wimbledon for several years they can still be proud of some of their sport coverage at least.I was watching the Bartoli match via their website and had Centre Court through an iPad.

I'll have to check but it looks like Kvitova completely collapsed in tha second set after i posted that, lost six games in a row. Maybe she struggled to find her rhythm after the rain break, Henman would know about that problem unfortunately.

Tomic and Gasquet are having a very good match.

In terms of sheer natural ability, these 2 would be right up there competing for Slams. Unfortunately their mentality is always their downfalls but in different way. Tomic is too cocky, whereas Gasquet is brittle in the heat of the battle.

Agree. Gasquet has so much talent but he's not even got close to winning a slam, don't think he's even made a semi.

Tomic still has time but he only seems to turn it up in the slams
