Wimbledon 2011

My favorite part....

".....tune in if you're a 3D sort of person."

Despite mentioning all the equipment you'd need...as if describing Alien technology to a 70 year old woman in a nursing home in Neasden, he completely neglected to mention the glasses....So either they truly are at the forefront of glasses-less 3D technology, or there'll be a lot of thoroughly baffled 70 year old women in Neasden tomorrow morning.

"Wimbledon's always been at the forefront of technical innovation.....Today's Djokovic vs Tsonga match is playing in 3D at 9 tomorrow morning."

Trail blazing.

So innovating it took them 125 years to install a roof, bravo.

On a serious note do the ball boys and girls get paid for what they do or are they told it's some sort of honour and privilege to do it?

Aargh. Consecutive errors on returns on the Murray 2nd serve. Nadal will serve for it. Come on!

Well he might have lost his #1 Ranking but Nadal's into his 5th Consecutive Wimbledon final.

He's played Wimbledon 6 times and reached 5 finals and he's played the French Open 7 times and reached the final on 6 occasions. He love these two tournaments :D

Hopefully he can beat Djokovic for once this season now!

5th straight final for the clay court specialist.

specialists don't exist with how the courts are now....since the french has been sped up and grass slowed down incredibly. Murray making the semis at clay competitions quite easily is proof of this.

It isn't his 5th in a row final though he missed 2008 Wimbledon wasn't it due to an injury i think from memory. But 5 finals in the time he has been at Wimbledon is some record.

Amazing isn't it. So many people were convinced he couldn't transfer his game from clay to grass, then it was the hard courts they reckoned that he couldn't handle. Hell of a player.

I guess it's the tennis equivalent of, "he won't do it it on a wet Wednesday in Stoke."

Nadals played wimbledon 7 times.

Only Muller and Fed have ever beaten him right? Fed twice in finals and once Muller so that's 6 times. He missed the French as well as Wimby in 2004.

:nono:

The only reason Nadal is great on grass is because it's slow.

Same way he only won in Australia and at New York because I guess those were made slow too.

He won the epic in 2008!

He missed out in 2009 with tendonitis in his knees. He's played 6 times in London :)

Srichaphan 3rd round 2003, there ya go. Google/Wiki are always your friend.

the tennis equivalent would be, he couldn't do it on pre-2001 grass.

they've changed to composition from 70/30 rye/fescue to 100 rye.

makes it most definitely slower and ball sits up more, invariably leading to less drastic characteristics from clay and hard court.

Agassi managed it when it was fast.

Well then the courts have been slow for the last decade so I guess Fed winning 6 at Wimbledon suddenly becomes a lesser accomplishment because the courts are slower now?

Good good. Then both Fed and Nadal would have been shit on grass pre 2001 :D

People go on and on about the grass being slower than it was but Nadal is probably the best volleyer there is in mens tennis right now so I think he would have done decently on the faster grass as well.

Nadal's style of play is suited to grass and clay but not so much on the hard courts where it puts a lot more pressure on his knees. He has a very average record at both the HC Slams but hopefully that'll improve.

They've not been slow for a decade.

True true. Was the youngest person to make it to the 3rd Round at Wimbledon since Bjorg at the age of 17 years :)

Andy Murray on Nadal's foot injury: "Rafa doesn't feign injuries, everyone dealing with something at this stage of season. He's played maximum amount since clay season started"

Maybe Murray's not all that bad. ;)

2001 to 2011 is a decade by my reckoning...
