Haha yeah was not too optimistic but atleast Clay and Grass are Nadal's strong points.

He gets absolutely hammered by big hitters on hard courts though. I'm happy he's won the Aussie Open already because winning a hard court slam is really hard for him. Just one hard court slam final ever.

Depends on his draw too. If he can avoid big hitters like Sod and Birdich and Djoko before the semis/finals he might have a chance but realistically I see him making quarters/semis at best over there.

His slower serve works on grass and clay but you need a lot of cheap points on serve in US. It would be his greatest achievment imo if he won a slam at Flushing Meadows

I agree to an extent although i do feel you do Nadals quality a disservice on the Hardcourts, whilst the hardcourts are clearly hes least effective surface hes still won a grand slam major at Australia and hes clearly got the game to win any title on any surface, you dont get to world number 1 if your merely a 1 surface man, i agree he probably wont be favourite at the US and i personally wouldn’t make him favourite (I wouldn’t have a favourtie full stop for this year) either but it certainly wouldn’t be a shock if he did win at flushing meadows, hes a great player and world number 1 after all.

If you remember many people said the very same thing about Nadal on grass, courts to fast, its all about the serve, great clay courters dont play well on grass historically etc and yet here we are, Nadals on a 13 match unbeaten run at wimbeldon and on course for a second consecutive Wimbledon title and has now reached his 4th final in a row at SW19, thats something only 4 other players have done in the history of the game, now granted the grass courts arnt as quick a surface as the HC's but still if youve the game to win grand slams on grass then your certainly capable on the HC's as hes already proven anyway.

Im really looking forward to the US this year its probably the most open field there’s been for years, i wouldn’t make anyone strong favourite i think as many as half a dozen could conceivably win it but to write Nadal off in my view is a bit foolish, if hes fit i can see him at least making the Semi finals and with it being the only slam hes never won to date that extra hunger could swing it for him....will be a great tournament whatever happens, Murrays as good a bet as any at flushing meadows.

Nadal's knees really get screwed up by the time the USO arrives. The long American season's not great for his knees sadly. But I would love to watch him win the USO. Would complete his set.

The issue with that is Nadal likes the slow courts. In all honesty, he should struggle on grass, because Wimbledon is meant to be the fastest surface, but it's been slowing down for ten years now. Give it another five and they'll just rename it clay.

The grass has started going anyway

Looking ahead to tomorrows final, can anyone make a case for Berdych winning? im going for a Nadal straight setter myself with 2 tie breaks.

Well I'm definitely less tense about this than the Soderling match. He'll have to play at a high level to win. It could be very similar to the RG final.

Yeah and thats his biggest problem, his fitness, if he can arrive at the US fresh after a break following wimbledon then hes got a good chance in my book, i think hes already pulled out of the Davis cup and the US dosnt start until september does it so i can see him managing his workload all the way up in prep for the US and giving it a real go, in the past hes just kept playing and playing and by the time flushing meadows came around hed be totaly shot hopefully hes learnt from that.

Hes got about 2 months before the US open starts so that providing he takes a break after wimbledon and limits his match time he should be ok.

Infact USO starts half way through August which itself is preceded by 2 more Masters series tournaments. So he's quite washed up by the time the USO arrives.

Yeah i think Berdych will come out flying, smashing everything and getting off to a good start but as seen with Soderling you cant keep hitting winners throughout a 5 set match, sooner or later you start missing a few and you know Nadals going to play at a consistent high level throughout the match, for Berdych to have a chance he'll have to win the first set, Nadal can sometimes start slowly and Berdych cant afford to go behind because Nadals probably the best front runner in the game, Nadal wins the first set and its a straight set routine win in my view.

But being his first final and the emotions its taken out of him to get there i can see Berdych just finding the long rallys to much as the match goes on, Nadal will get balls back into play other players dont and wins 90% of long rallies and that alone wears the opponent out especially at the end of a tough best of 5 grand slam tournament, Berdych is going to have to hit tons of winners throughout to stand a chance and even that probably wont be enough.

Well if i were his manager id advise he skipped one of those tournaments, you dont need 2 tournaments to get your feel so to speak playing on the HC‘s, so manage your workload, skip 1 and make sure your as fresh as possible going into the US would be my advice.

Thats why i think pulling out of the davis cup was a smart move by Nadal, his style of tennis just cant stand up to a full season of tennis, he must get a break somewhere, in the past month or so he'll have played 14 best of 5 setters in 2 different slams all directly after playing in every clay court event beforehand, unfortunately winning all the clay court season means hes literally had no rest whatsoever since Monte Carlo.

Yeah but the problem is it's mandatory. Neither of the 2 are optional masters series.

So yeah it's a great thing he missing out on Davis Cup. Much needed bloody rest. It was smart of him to give Hamburg and barcelona a miss in the clay tour this year too.

Surely you can pull out due to 'injury' though.....not that im suggesting he do any such thing you understand. :)

Hahaha. He can but he'll lose too many points I think so no point. And Nadal is too competitive to just miss out on tournaments

What are the current ranking points for the top 10 do you know? im assuming Nadal will go miles ahead of Federer at number 1 after wimbledon.

Nadal was around 300 ahead of Fed at the start of the tournament. Now Fed was defending champions so losing will cost him 1500 points.

Nadal has no points to defend from last year so even if he loses he gets round 1500 points. So yeah he should be something like 3-3.5k ahead of Fed after this :D

Am i right in saying Federer will drop to world number 3 after Wimbledon?....i shouldnt but.....:lol::lol:

Amazing, Novak Djokovic will be a world number 2!

Yeah Fed is definitely down to number 3.

It's good for Nadal actually. Now he might face Fed in the semis at USO. That's ofcourse if Djoko can remain 2nd

Its embaressing for tennis though really, i mean Novak Djokovic at number 2 in the world? jesus, it dosnt reflect on the current field though seeing as i think were on the brink of a very strong era of mens tennis, a lot of younger players really looking good over the past 12-18 months, the emergance of Soderling as a genuine threat in majors, Del Potro looking a future star and then a group of very good players below that as well.

Good times for mens tennis, less said about the womens game the better mind.

Looking forward to this, could be a great match. Probably no 08 heights but entertaining none the less.

Both playing well right now. Nadal just hitting too many unforced errors. He's getting into good positions on the bidich serve but wasting them by making crucial errors.

Nadal serving well right now

Dam. That was a poor poor smash by Rafa. He's missed too many of these in the last month

Sigh. Another poor unforced error.Come on Rafa cut out the errors and you can break the guy.

What a shot by Berdych

2 poor serves in a row now. The Double fault and now the weak second serve :nervous:

Good serving by Rafa there.

What's the guy in the crowd saying?

"I love you Rafa"

"you're a genius Rafa"

And just now "come on Rafa"

All just as points are about to be played as well. You really can't take cockneys anywhere.
