Great match.

Those 5 setters in the early rounds were good for Nadal. Gave him some much needed match practice.

Tremendous performance from Rafa!

That was a very passive way to go out, and i've never seen a top player hit the ball into the net so often.

But let's be realistic, Murray's best chance of a Grand Slam is on the hardcourts where Rafa isn't as good.

Del Potro - injured
Federer - past it

If Murray can't win the US Open this year there really will be serious questions to answer.

Yeah I expect Soderling ro Murray to win USO with ease.

Nadal's post match interview was absolute class as usual.

Really praised Murray

I have a lot of time for Nadal and do like him when he is interviewed unlike Federer who at times comes over as looking down at other players or not giving them the credit where it is due.

Rafaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Seriously didn't expect to see him in the final this year. What a player. Showed Murray that he is in a different class

True.

After his disaster at Queen and the performance after the first 3 rounds I was worried. But Soderling was the main worry. Murray would be manageable but Soderling is the hard man to beat.

Berdich will be another tough game. He's hard a real hard draw and he's come through well.

Berdych will be tough IMO. Has the game to beat Nadal. Only if the occasion of being in his first slam final doesn't get to him.

Rafa 23 of 26 net approaches. Incredible for a non serve and volleyer.

Before we go, this from Rafa on what he whispered to Murray as they embraced at the end: "I am sorry and wish him the best of luck for the rest of the season." And on Murray's prospects: "I think he deserves to win a Grand Slam. He had the chance in Australia and here and he will win a Grand Slam soon. For Andy I think was an important day playing at home at Wimbledon which put him under a little bit more pressure than usual. He is a very nice guy and I wish him the best of luck."

His net play and serve and volley is something he has been improving on since the clay and especially at Queens.

Berdych will be like Soderling at RG imo. He just might get frustrated with Nadal returning and chasing everything. He won't have it as easy as he had it against Fed and Jokeovich. And Djoko showed at the end of the 2nd that if you chase down everything against him you have a chance. And Nadal can keep chasing for 5 sets running.

Murrays best chance of a slam has always and will always be on the hardcourts of flushing meadows and the Ozzie open, the faster courts give his style of tennis the best chance of winning, and vise versa its Nadals weakest surface for the very same reason, the likes of Soderling/Murray/Del Potro/Berdych etc are going to be major players at the US, big serving hard hitting on both wings, theyll be a handful.

As for today Nadals just a class above, the clear worlds best player now if there were any doubt anyway, should have been seeded number 1 but there you go, i expect him to beat Berdych pretty comfortably notching up his 8th slam...Nadals 10th grand slam final at just 24 years of age, truly phenominal record, to put that into context hes only a year older than Murray and should he win on sunday will have won more majors than Federer at the same age....

Rafas out on his own at the top of the mens game now, Federers best days are long gone, and when youve got Djokovic ranked as the next best in the world Rafa must be laughing, if he werent so humble and respectful he probably would be.

Ah dissappointed by the result but I'm not feeling as down as I thought I'd be.

The thing I always look for in Murrays game is progress and I thought today was a positive step, he wasn't outclassed to the extent he was by Federer in the Aussie Open. He's clearly progressed from the quarter final loss v Nadal a few years back where he was outpowered off the court.

The positives for Murray are this, when he's serving well and consistently .. Nadal or anyone for that matter will find it difficult to break him, his backhand is bigger and better than before (already a world class weapon) but the most important facet of his game which is finally showing signs of getting better is his forehand, he;s clearly pinpointed it as an area of weakness and he's hitting it harder than before but he struggles with the accuracy to go with the power and hence it keeps going in the net.

Physically there is still scope for Murray to improve, but its the mental side of the game today where he suffered and its one that can't be cured unless he battles his way through an entire tournement and beats the best. Nadal was a beast on the big points even though he overall didn't win that many points for someone who won in straight sets.

Things are looking up for Murray, he shouldn't be too downheartened, next year and a half he'll definitely win a grand slam if he remains injury free.

Del Potro will still be injured and Soderling for me is too weak mentally - he's more Djokovic than Nadal. I think Berdych will be drained having got so far here and at Roland Garros. I think Murray is a pretty big favourite for that Slam.

Unles Murray bottles it again. And that's not too hard. BUt as Murray said, Rafa will certainly win a slam soon

Well that was Nadal pre injury and very much at his best.

Pretty much agree there. The problem with Murray today? He wasn't clinical enough. He needs to take a bit more confidence and really attack the important points. Thats the difference between him and Rafa.

Even though it was a 3-0 win, it was a bloody even game.

Hmm Nadal barely played his best most of the game.

In the 2nd and 3rd round in the final 2 sets and against soderling was when he came on all guns blazing. Today he just played a conservative game. He was quite poor in the 2nd set and he din't attack the Murray 2nd serve well enough all game except at the end of the third. I think Nadal can play better in the final.

Jesus fecking Christ, I'm surprised you can talk Nadal's cock is lodged so far down your throat.

There's having a favourite player and then there's you, buying Rafa-shaped dildos just so you can take his likeness up your cavernous arsehole once a night and feel like a real man.

I"m more concerned about laughing at Frankly Vulgar. I think he might have cmmited suicede after seing thatg performance by the dour Scottish twat.

Federer will not win the US open, he'll do well to get past the quaters if his last 2 grand slam performances are anything to go by, the big hitting players (see Berdych here at wimbledon and Soderling at the french) are blasting him off the court.

Best days are behind Fed, maybe even his grand slam winning days....

that top serena wears on top of her dress is clearly annoying the shit out of her everytime
What serena wears never really suits her..

I think Djoko and Berdych would as well.

I think Berdych might just tire out. Djoko is a joke. He's always spent by the time USO arrives. Semis at best again.

Nadal might have Fed in his half and in the semis this time which might actually be good for Nadal as he could avoid Djoko and Murray who really have his number on hard courts.

I still expect Sod or Muray to finally win a slam.

Congrats to Serena, another Wimbledon victory for her. Just switched over from the football to catch the championship clinching point. Aussie and Wimbledon champion this year, I wouldn't bet against her taking the US Open.

Nothing new really.

One man dominating mens tennis.

One man dominating womens tennis.

Meh, Serena winning another slam. Women's tennis is one mindless bashing.

Tomorrow Nadal vs Berdych would be fun to watch.

I doubt anyone really cares about Women's finals anymore actually. We all know Serena will win.

Last years USO was great though with Kim coming back and winning it and beating the 2 williams on the way to the final.

Sorry, just want to clarify something here. Nadal is the best tennis player in the world at the moment, that's not in doubt, but he's hardly "dominating".

How many Grand Slams has he won in the past year and a half? Three out of seven? Real domination, that.

Ok well 2 men dominating mens tennis.

I actually think the men's game is very healthy right now. You have your outright superstar (Nadal), your fading star who's on the way down but can still do it on his day (Federer), a handful of players just below that top bracket who can cause an upset and keep things interesting (Roddick, Soderling, Davydenko) and then your young players looking to make that final step and win a few Slams (Djokovic, Murray, Del Potro, Berdych).

You might have a clear bookies' favourite of that bunch, but going into a tournament there's still a chance that any of them could win it, or at least make the final. Women's tennis just isn't anywhere near that.

Yeah while this current era is not exactly high on quality there is a lot of competition. This year specially Soderling and Berdych are beginning to show some balls on court and beating the likes of Fed.

Davydenko has been the greatest disappointment for me actually. He ended last year so strong with the London Masters and was doing so well until that 2nd set vs Fed at Australia. Really disappointed a lot since then.

Roddick also has really gone down in quality big time this year. Infact Fed, Davy, Murray and Roddick have all gone down. And Del Po is a serious miss. Future world number one for sure, injury permitting. But all in all yeah it's a good competitive field. Will be even harder to predict a winner at Flushing Meadows. nadal won't that so it's an open field.

PS: Great to see Petz and Melzer win the doubles :D

Being fair here wr8 mate you said Nadal wouldnt win at Wimbledon this year if i remember correctly ;)

Haha yeah was not too optimistic but atleast Clay and Grass are Nadal's strong points.

He gets absolutely hammered by big hitters on hard courts though. I'm happy he's won the Aussie Open already because winning a hard court slam is really hard for him. Just one hard court slam final ever.

Depends on his draw too. If he can avoid big hitters like Sod and Birdich and Djoko before the semis/finals he might have a chance but realistically I see him making quarters/semis at best over there.

His slower serve works on grass and clay but you need a lot of cheap points on serve in US. It would be his greatest achievment imo if he won a slam at Flushing Meadows

The issue with that is Nadal likes the slow courts. In all honesty, he should struggle on grass, because Wimbledon is meant to be the fastest surface, but it's been slowing down for ten years now. Give it another five and they'll just rename it clay.
