Wimbledon 2009

It's a good job they have the red button on the BeeB now because the centre court has been fecking shite today. I wouldn't allow a women's match on a show court until the quarters. What was the point of that Williams match being first. Awful.

That said, Roddick isn't much better. Why don't they just cut to the tie-break when this boring cnut is on?

Hard as it must be for you to believe but some people do enjoy the women's game.

Sure the Venus Williams' game earlier wasn't a great match but she is the current champion and therefore when she is playing and centre court is available I guess they are going to play her on it. She is one of the draws.

And Roddick's been broken, I reckon this game is getting better and better as it goes on.

Reading you posts is almost as boring as watching women's tennis.

Looks like a few people are on back-to-lay with Troicki, I can see him putting up a fight and his odds getting cut in half.

I've just got a text off a mate who's there saying that the buzz around the complex is Federer just failed a drugs test!

And I'm sure that those around the complex would be privy to such information so quickly.

Very boring watching Murray wait for his opponent to feck it up.

Murray takes the first set.

Yawn.

Hopefully Troicki will win the next two sets to liven things up.

Come on Tim. This is the Tiger's year, I can feel it. I can feel it deep down in my soul.

10 aces for Murray already, and not even two sets played yet. Impressive stuff.

Looking at the draw, there's a bit of an air of predictability about Murray making the final without too much of a problem. Unless he somehow goes off the boil, I don't see anyone on his side troubling him.

This tournament is the most consistent I've seen him play. Fantastic stuff.

Whisper it

Murray is playing like Federer here

Ok this guy might not be the greatest opponent ever; he's still seeded mind, and Murray is making absolute mince meat of him

This guy is the 30th seed Brad, Murray does look impressive today

Anyone watching Ferrero vs Gonzalez?

What the feck was that about?! Umpire just made a random announcement, I think about another court, mid way through a point! The players stopped and everyone was like, what the feck?! Replayed the point eventually!

So, what happens if you put a shit load of money on Murray, then he has to retire because of injury and the tie is awarded to his opponent?

Would you lose the lot?

You would indeed

I bet on a player who didn't compete because he was injured, and got my money back because he hadn't played a game in the tournament and a replacement stepped in. But once they're in, you just lose your cash

But you'd still be getting crap odds because you're essentially just betting on an injury, and I'm gunna go ahead and assume the ratio of forfeit games to played is bigger than 33-1

Murray outstanding. At least 14 aces and a variety and subtlety that should be making a few on here eat their words. Poor Troicki, he didn't stand a chance.

I must admit, until a year or so ago, I didn't see him becoming the player he is. He's a lot mentally stronger than the vast majority of players on the tour, and he has plenty of weapons to hurt his opponents with. I have no problem admitting (as I have in the past) that he has more about him than I gave him credit for.

The next thing for him now is to win some slams. He hasn't jumped that hurdle just yet, no matter how often he beats the top players outside of the majors. I have no doubt he will though.

Still, it should be enough to make people think twice about putting shit-loads of money on a player to win.

Saying that, if Nadal had made this tournament it may have been worth taking a flutter on some of his early round small-fry opponents, given the problems with his knee.

You've long since seen the huge improvement in Andy Murray, brophs, fair play to you. The fact that it is continuing makes his winning a Slam all but inevitable. His stamina and first serve consistency is beginning to make his other attributes (such as nous and variety) count for more.

True.

He needs to have a look at his second serve though. I saw that in the Gulbis match he was at something like an 80mph average on second. That's something he'll be looking to improve, I have no doubt. And looking at the way his game as a whole is coming along, you'd think he'll manage it.

Indeed. I can't play tennis for sh1t but those kicker serves look like they would be pretty frightening if they were about 10 mph faster.

I was on TV earlier. Just before the Murray match they showed a clip of Troiki winning his match in the previous round, and I'm in the background clapping :D

It is when one of the horses is a 3 legged blind pony in comparison

I know he's not as good as everyone says, Brad, but Federer is still number two in the world. He's not quite that much worse than Murray.

So what do people here think, can Hewitt do his own version of Ivanisevic or nigh on one anyway? Somebody of his personality seems the more likely to be able to put a run like that together i'd say.

In theory, he could face Murray in the Semis, if i remember the draw right.

Mauresmo too was 50/1 when i looked earlier on today and all things considered that's damn big odds for her at Wimbledon IMO.

Punters don't back these 33/1 pokes hoping for an injury. They`re just hoping to lay it off at a shorter price. I've been known to back huge outsiders in horse races (usually front runners) knowing they won't win but that they'll be a fair bit shorter during the race.

Hewitt should be out as soon as he meets a seed who is actually half decent on grass. I've taken 3.85 on Stepanek.

I reckon you shan't be cashing in. :) But we shall wee.

I think it would do the tournament good to have an added story like that on the go, not that were he to make the Final and face Federer he wouldn't find himself confronted by quite the brick wall that is. Was not their last encounter in a Slam, at the US Open i believe, a rather one sided affair? You'll have to pardon my ignorance of the details for although i follow tennis to more than the average degree, i am no expert on the topic by any means.

I think in their first 8 encounters, Hewitt won 7 to Federer's 1. But since then Federer has won something like 13 in a row. And most of those have been completely one-sided.

He needs to bottle it against a qualifier in the semi final to truly confirm that he is a Brit.
