Will there be a demonstration against the Glazers if Pochettino is appointed United manager?

I bloody hope there will be demonstrations when the club keeps Woodward's legacy going, spending extortionate amounts on social media divas instead of players who get their head down and play for the team.

Because that'll keep happening under downward-spiralling Glazer puppet Poch who thinks trophies are only for egos and top4 is what really matters.

I mean Poch would not be a bad appointment. He’d sort out midfield and we’d still have an actual playing identity, even if it’s not the modern vs like ETH.

Poch is a good manager, I prefer the whole Dutch thing, but I think Poch would do a very good job at United. Looks like it's a close run thing...

Yes
I plan on chaining myself to the goalpost with my "Stop the Argentine Moyes" top

No. Poch is not our preferred choice, but he won't be anywhere near as worse as what we had.

You'd honestly think Pochettino was Rafa Benitez or Sam Allardyce the way some people are portraying him.
Tbf Benitez has achieved more than Poch probably ever will. So not the best of examples unless you mean due to his Liverpool connections United fans would not want him (and of course he is not good anymore).

What the actual feck is this thread. Poch is a good coach, it's not like we're hiring Darren Fletcher or some guy with zero experience.

Right. In some peoples mind there is 1 good manager between Poch and ETH so the better ETH is, the worse Poch gets.

I would rather have ETH because I think that if things go well then he has a much higher ceiling than Poch. That being said, I don't think even a small percentage of things are going right at United and perhaps a coach than isn't quite as radical and different to previous hires is maybe safer. I wouldn't be disappointed with either.

No, but Poch will morph into the Top Red choice - akin to the second coming of Ole, because vehemently backing him will be a way to exhibit ones superior supportership.
Your job now is to back your manager!

Yep, that's how I see it as well. ETH would maybe be the better choice long term, but having Poch here wouldn't wind me up one bit. I think it just shows how spoiled a fanbase can be these days.

The most important thing in this process is the club fixing it's damn structure and orienting themselves towards sporting and not commercial success. I hope fans would see this one day, at least maybe the ones with some business management experience.

Moyes, LVG, Mourinho and, to some extent, Ole, didn't fail because they were atrocious coaches, I think the club structure wasn't right. I read a very well documented post yesterday saying we didn't really have a scouting structure and an analytics department until 2015 or 2016, which such a bad way to run a business, especially a sporting one. While I think about it, it's no wonder Klopp, Pep and Carlo refused to come here.

Could the same not be applicable to ten Hag also? Might the ten Hag or nobody fans not also stand by him. Surely that will be a positive thing considering our current standing and the need for a massive overhaul of our squad.

I think its a strange thing that we talk about focussing more on football than commercial success when any other business in the world of our size wouldn't be considering them an either/or. Success on the pitch bleeds into success off the pitch but fundamentally they can be largely separate. Yes, player engagement with the fan base is important but there is not reason that should be detrimental to on pitch activities.

United would be far better off financially if we:
- Were more successful on the pitch and earned prize money
- Didn't spend vast sums on players that are not good enough or don't fit the team
- Had more stability and direction in the club so we don't waste so much money on players and sacking managers
- Wouldn't have to pay such crazy salaries to compensate for a lack of trophies/presence in CL latter stages etc

This is the part that boggles my mind. They are not boosting the commercial side by running the football side badly. They are damaging both.

Those absolute idiots deciding to support the manager of the club they support! Why do that when they can complain online like real united fans!

If he did get appointed, getting behind him would be the best thing for the club. The fans that go to matches wouldn’t create a toxic atmosphere because we appointed Poch, you only need look at Everton with Rafa to see it’s not a good way to go.

Doesn’t matter who the manager is if the owners decide to saddle him with Rashford and Pogba on new contracts for example? What’s the point. They should just manage the team themselves or let the players manage. Manager without power over players means feck all

Exactly this. This will be 4th or 5th time we will be starting a rebuilding and everything is the same if not worse
Look at Barca, they looked hopeless, and now...

I'd strongly prefer Ten Hag over any other candidate (and I think he'll get the job) but if it's Poch then so be it. We'll back him all the same. It's literally our only job as fans of the club - support the team.

Come on folks, we all know how this works. Whoever comes in will get the (live) crowds full support and will, as always, be judged on results. The only thing that changes is people patience level. Poch will get less than ten Hag (less so again if he then goes to a rival). But if he gets next season off to a flyer (having, please god, sorted out our defensive issues in the summer) he'll be the next best thing to sliced bread in no time.

Just think it would be another symptom of fans not being listened too, so perhaps justifies some unrest. Then again, it’s the clubs call to make.

Would expect the conspiracies of SAF pulling the strings to proliferate though. I still think he has a major say.

Yes this is spot on. If Poch comes in and gets off to a flyer and playing good football everyone will be behind him. On the other hand as you say if he fumbles lots of fans will be on his back. More so if Neville starts talking about giving him time and that sort of thing.

Have you read the next manager thread? The disdain for Pochettino in there suggests it could be the straw that break the camel's back for some.

People like that will probably completely change their mind after a couple of weeks. Football fans are usually reactionary.

A demonstration because a manager was appointed that some fans don't want?! That would be a bit petty.

Of course not he is a really good manager and would be a good appointment.

There should be protests if the powers that be continue to blow hundreds of millions on awful transfer policies, but not for appointing a good manager.

I'm not sure why Ten Hag is considered to be an obvious choice by some fans. Management is difficult and the reality at a club like Ajax is that even when things are hard, you're still winning the majority of games because they're a good club in a weak league. A manager in that position isn't going to face real adversity, so it's a part of the skill set which isn't obviously proven. He may well thrive under that pressure, but it's still not proven. He's not proven to be capable of handling big egos or star, £90m signings and so on.

I'm not against Ten Hag at all but Pochettino is the more proven manager, he's a safer option. If you're trying to catch lightning in a bottle, go for Ten Hag, but if you want consistency and very good performances, then Pochettino is the best option.

So was Mourinho and LVG. Ten Hag has already won 2 league title and is about to win his 3rd. Poch hasnt won a single title in his whole career and will win one this season. Not sure how he is more proven.

I agree with what Gary Neville said on The Overlap, that there’s so much clamour for Ten Hag to get the job at this point that were the club to go and appoint Pochettino there would be a feeling of deflation around the whole place. We need a fresh start, a clean slate, can’t be dragging any negatively into the next season which is what I feel will happen if we bring in Poch.

He's won the Dutch league with Ajax who are by far the wealthiest club in the Netherlands. How far do you think Hag would've taken Spurs with the same budget Poch had to work with? The PL is a different proposition. This is why Ten Hag hasn't been snapped up by a big club yet since his CL semifinal feat three years ago. He was beaten by Pochettino in that tie let's not forget

There was also a clamour for LVG, Mourinho, Give Ole the job on a permanent bases... hell there was a clamour for us to sign Sanchez with 90% of the fan base saying it was a bargain.

One of the major problems in the post Fergie era is we have done things because there was a clamour for it, not because it is well thought through good idea.

The difference is Ten Hag would be the first modern up and coming manager we could potentially hire that’s currently at or yet to hit the top of his game. LVG was past it when we hired him and Mourinho was damaged goods. Ole was given the job off the back of a good run as interim boss and is the only time you could say the club folded due to the clamour to give him it permanently which was the wrong decision. The club seem to be doing their due diligence this time and Ten Hag seems to be the best man for the job, that’s why there’s such a clamour to get him.

I'm not saying we shouldn't hire Ten Hag, I'm just saying in no way should the fact the fanbase is clamouring for Ten Hag have any sway over whether he is appointed or not.

As has been seen in the post-Fergie what the fan base wants is normally just as wrong as what the idiots who have been running the football side of the business thinks is correct, so if anything the fact the fan base wants Ten Hag, going by the history of what the fan base wants it would be a reason to think twice about appointing him.

The manager has to be the person who is best equipped to rework the footballing culture at the club and at least start to create a foundation that can be built on, while at the same time having to work within the cluster **** of egos, marketing, jostling for position, bureaucracy and just plain incompetency that is the structure at the club. Not to mention the what appears to be at least slightly toxic culture of the current squad.

Before Ten Hag came in Ajax had not won title for 4 years. They had not made out of CL group stage for more than a decade.

Lets be honest, difference between Ajax rich to PSG rich is way too much. Plus he built two Ajax team and won with both of them. Most of the players are from its academy. PSG is in different league all together

Bloody hell. It is not like they are hiring some manager from finnish league whos only serious job in career was relegating WBA or something

I know, i know....
Imagine if they did that and got away with it for 3 years using intangibles and nostalgia.

But seriously the next manager & signings , should not be influenced by what the fans want. If they happen to align great, but decisions should be made based on football. I don’t even think the Glazers are the ones who’ll decide the next manager. They’ll just sign it, and agree or disagree on any payout the manager’s club.

Not the best example as Poch at PSG has not won the CL with PSG being one of the richest in the world. I don't know who is richer Spurs or Ajax.

That's literally the definition of 'supporting'.

I expect torches and axes from the local mancs. Seriously though if he is hired and it goes how i think it would with these players, it will get seriously ugly by Christmas.

Ten Hag is a really good coach but Ajax and PSV have always been the two biggest teams there that have gone through spells of dominance back and forth. Fyennoord are their most heated rivals and are successful in their own right but it's always been about PSV and Ajax, with Ajax winning the most trophies. Frank DE Boer won 4 back to back titles with Ajax from 2010-14. A correction was due in the time frame between that and Ten Hags appointment. During that barren spell in the league Peter Bosz actually took Ajax to a European final (the EL against united in 2017) for the first time since LVGs young Ajax sides of the mid 90s. Ten Hag inherited that golden generation and the club produced more talent and purchased more players after losing most of them. Not to say Hag isn't brilliant but it was inevitable Ajax would resurge

Not the best example as Poch at PSG has not won the CL with PSG being one of the richest in the world. I don't know who is richer Spurs or Ajax.

Blanc, 2 time CL winner Ancelloti, cup specialist Emery and CL winner after departing PSG Tuchel all failed as well. Pep has not won the CL since his Barcelona days. Failed to win it with Bayern and has been at city since 2016. City are the richest club in the world and have been in practical terms since they won the lottery. How is Poch not winning it in a season and a half seen as a failure? Spurs are wealthier than Ajax but relative to the rest of the Eredivisie Ajax are like an unchallenged Manchester City
